In the areas which I go most, O2 coverage was poor, Orange has always been pretty good and 3 beats the rest of them hands down. It's far better than 3 was, better than Orange and significantly better than my works Vodafone device.
It all depends on your area, it's impossible to say which is better for everyone because coverage over the country varies so much.
Suffice it to say, I'm very happy with 3.

3 recently got voted as having the worst customer service out of all the mobile phone companies, I've only had to talk to them once and they were courteous, polite and helpful and my issue was resolved very quickly so my findings don't agree with that.

No it doesn't. With all previous iPhone releases, they've been delivered on launch day. I expect my phone to be on my desk on the 14th and I'll be mighty peeved if it isn't.
There was never any doubt, really. It was always going to fly out the door, no matter what the media said.
Who does that and why? I only ever go through and kill apps if I decide for any reason that I want to do a complete restart of the phone. The last time would have been whenever the last software update was, that's about the only time I restart the device. Months ago?
