Hi guys

Would appear to have a virus or malware of some sort as quite often when on the internet and on a web page if i click on a lick it opens up pop ups to betting site free gifts etc.
Currently using AVG Free as my AV and that doesnt pick anything up and have tried Hitman Pro to see if that picks anything up .It did but still having same problems.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Which browser are you using?
Check for rogue extensions/add-ons.

I'm going to be coming back to Windows after a while away.

I have an eset antivirus (no firewall etc) subscription (it is a multi user subscription the other users continued using it and there is 1 sub spare).

Is it recommended to use eset or windows defender these days?

If you have a subscription for it anyway, I'd use it.

While personally I can get away with no antivirus or using Windows Defender or any of the free versions (AVG or Avast etc), my kids seem to be virus magnets, so I bit the bullet and bought the internet security version of eset. Have been using it for a month or so and impressed so far - has blocked numerous threats, and yet is still reasonably lightweight as anti-virus packages go.

Hi.

I've come back to Windows 7 after two years with Ubuntu. When I previously used Windows 7 I used Kaspersky. Now I am not sure whether to buy another license for Kaspersky or just use MSE like I have been doing for the last couple of months.

Please bear in mind I do not use Torrents or look at any porn on this PC. It is just internet and a bit of Steam gaming.

I'm erring on the side of just sticking with MSE.

What do you think?

I've always really trusted Avast! but recently Windows defender detected a Trojan on my system that nothing else I tried (Avast and malware bytes) picked up, I thought perhaps its a false positive but let defender remove it anyway, a day later a few of my accounts (email, twitter etc) were taken over so I believe the Trojan to be a genuine baddie, Win defender has certainly gone up in my book after that.

The question is, how did it get in?

I've finally lost my faith in Avast now as they've now gotten to the point that updates can block access to an account profile which is what happened to me yesterday after I got the dreaded "preparing Windows" message after logging in and the notification that I was using a temporary profile since my existing one couldn't be access and the only thing of note after getting back in (which took a reboot) was that I got the new avast logo in the system tray which told me that it had been updated without my input (kinda like microsoft), so the first chance I get I'll be nuking avast from the only computer that needs it and reverting back to windows defender until I can decide on a replacement (which isn't going to be hard considering whom I bank with).

I tried giving Defender a go. I uninstalled Avira, tried to turn on WD and it just kept saying another AV was running.

I tried the Avira removal tool, rebooted several times, deleted anything Avira related. No dice.

Any ideas chaps?
