Anyone had the problem with Bitdefender in that it basically pauses all operations until you can login...saying pending activation?

So atm i have no anti-virus...

Bizarrely it was working fine until i eventually decide to register (to stop the popups appearing all the time i guess)

And since then it has been pending activation...no matter how many times it says "email sent" to me to activate Bitdefender...i never receive the email.

I would post on their forums the problem but i'm not receiving an activation email from them there either...

First time i've ever had this kind of problem with an AV i might just uninstall and download Avast or another AV. The bitdefender interface is minimalistic but its not very informative or helpful. I've done virus scans and it didnt seem to let me go into detail about what files were deleted etc....hrmm

Would you recommend it?

Also seems weird that you need to register twice with Bitdefender. You register for the online part of Bitdefender then you register for their forums (even though its on same website)

Anyway not having any luck with it...uninstall tonight methinks.

I have had good luck with Avast,Panda,AVG, I use those on my various PCs,Bitdefender Free gave me issues with my games,ie refused to launch.

I use VIPRE Internet Security and purchased the Lifetime Upgrade a few years back. It uses very little system resources and even during a full PC system deep scan I am still able to play games with very minimal impact - not noticeable whatsoever.

Which games?

Never had an issue with BitDefender and it's blocked some websites that were infected too which was nice.

Think I told you before ;) ,awhile back it was games via Origin like ME3 for example,I've not tried latest build of Bitdefender Free so maybe it has improvements/fixes etc..

Just bought a gaming laptop, is it worth sticking with Win defender or get something else?

I would like something that is really low in CPU usage and general resources really

AV comparatives have cpu usage here on PDF page 11 http://www.av-comparatives.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/avc_per_201405_en.pdf.

A lot of free AVs actually use less resources now then Defender, bear in mind that AVG/Avast etc to name a few have newer versions out since that review ie 2015 version that use even less resources.

I say choose one you are happy with, quite a few are free so you can try them at your leisure and decide for yourself,I also use Malwarebytes free anti-malware as backup as well for manual scans now and then.

Btw I've had good luck (no issues)with AVG 2015,Avast 2015,Panda 2015 free versions on my various PCs.

I'd just like to report back in guys. That I've been real-time AV free for nearly a year now and it feels brilliant! :D

2014 will fondly be remembered as the year I finally saw the light.

Sorry im i sound stupid but does this mean you havnt used Anti-Virus software for over a year?? and will carry on doing so?

I have on the rare occasion used an on demand only scanner.

But yes, I have not used any real-time av software for nearly a year and have no intention of ever doing so again.

He's using free AV, instead of throwing his money down the drain.

Actually, I believe he's saying he's AV Free, as in not using a real-time antivirus program. That's what I'm taking it to mean anyway.

I never understand the logic behind not running an antivirus program. Most computers these days are perfectly capable of running without any noticeable slowdown and quite often perfectly legitimate websites can be hacked by a third party. Giving the excuse of "I'm sensible" does not cut it. MS Security Essentials is better than nothing, but it generally never picks up the viruses\malware I find on my clients' computers with other tools.

I also find it ironic when someone says "I haven't used an antivirus for 2 years and have never had a problem." Not all viruses throw up a message telling you that they are on the computer, in fact zombie viruses and key loggers are in their best interests to never let you know they are there. The only PCs where it MAY make sense not to run an antivirus are ones only ever used for gaming, which don't even get used for web-browsing or financial transactions and/or PCs that don't use an internet connection.

What program would you recommend? I used to use MSE but as the support is coming to an end in 2015 I am looking into something else.

MSE with Malwarebytes... had for a year with no problems at all. I used to use Norton but it was so sluggish but now I can update each database within a few seconds of turning my PC on.
