Finished re-watching Starship Operators again this evening. Not a bad sci-fi series, although some of the 3D ship models are a bit dodgy, (the main vessel looks worryingly like a dustbuster in general shape).

Reasonable characters but again it feels like they could have done quite a bit more with the story if they'd taken the time to do so. Battles are a tad weak if you've read any David Weber too ;)

Also watched episode 5 of Amagami SS. Quite liking this series even though it's a pretty generic example of it's genre. With episode 5 we appear to be onto the second girls arc who appears to be a tad violent and unwilling to admit she likes the male character. Quite amusing though. Edit: forgot to mention, epic zettai ryouiki in this episode ;)

Re my previous post about Azumanga Daioh,Have you had a look at the part i mentioned?I found it very odd .
someone more educated in Japanese, like your self may be able to explain to me how the name can have 2 different spellings in kanji?

Well you have Marimite S4 on order so you have an excuse .... at the moment ;)

Actually I thought I'd post this image again:

charactersoe2.jpg

This image was my first contact with Marimite in the form of Sachiko in the middle of the picture. All the characters in the image are supposed to be the same age and the point of the image is to show how this can appear to not be the case due to the range of art styles used. Her character was different enough from the character art styles in the series I had watched up until then that it piqued my interest and things went rather downhill from there :)

Worryingly I have seen all but two of the series here and can recognise all but one, at least at the series level, off the top of my head (the one I can recognise and haven't seen is somewhere in my back log ... actually make it 2.5 as I can't remember ever getting through Denno Coil (far right))

Manabi Straight, represented by Manami directly to the right of Sachiko is another all time favourite series of mine.

Nope definately chihiro not chiyo chan
She is not quite a main character
edit actually she is a minor character according to this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Azumanga_Daioh_characters#Chihiro

No offence but I feel that you made a wrong choice of words as I see an introduction as how Chiyo was introduced and you don't see Chihiro until about half way through the first episode.

Also Japan has three different writing styles with Kanji being the type you'd mainly see so what you'd seen was the name in two different Japanese writing styles the top one being kanji and the bottom most likely being in hiragana since it is used for native Japanese words (you also missed Tomo and Yomi (although her name is actually Koyomi) have the same thing) although if you'd noticed Chiyo's first name isn't written in kanji.

I finished Maria a couple of days ago (forgot to post), which was very good I though, the last few episodes where a bit of an emotional roller coaster but explained things, and Yumi seems to have grown up a lot since the first episode :)

I've since started on the UK Essential Collection of Mai Hime which is completely different (fan service ahoy!;)), although it looks like at least one episode on disc two suffers from the drop outs on the English track that I think plagued Beez for a while (only very short drops) and the mixing isn't great where I think they've down mixed the US 5.1 to stereo and haven't always got the levels right, but i'm enjoying

Spotted some text that i found strange this afternoon
Disc 1 of Azumanga Daioh near the beginning where Chihiro is introduced it has some Japanese kanji with the name Chihiro underneath
and below that a different kanji with the name Chihiro under that??
Weird what you spot after the xx time watching a show isn`t it?

I assume you mean at 06:07? Going by the previous introduction pop-ups I would say that the top kanji is the more correct formal way of writing the name whilst the lower kana is the less formal name the character is known by. You notice on some of the other popups, e.g. Chiyo, that the subtitled name order for the top name is incorrect compared with the name order in the kanji.

That Chiyo is still using kana characters for her first name is probably an age thing. If you watch Ai Yori Aoshi there is a part near the end of the first series where the two main characters revisit a cherry tree which they measured themselves against when they met when they were a lot younger. The earlier marks on the tree they labelled with fairly simple kana characters of their names whilst the new marks they made now they labelled with more complex kanji signatures.

Wow, that's a bit condescending ...

Oh and the introductions Andarial is referring to are the pop-ups which introduce the characters including Chihiro ... nothing wrong with that at all?

Yep, well you see what I mean now about episode 11 ... don't often see a character have their whole view of their situation and relationships turned upside down quite so dramatically .... truly excellent episode ...

I didn't notice any audio issues on disk two of the US release but I was listening to the Japanese audio track not the English one .... although hopefully you don't have a completely knackered disk 6 like I did.

I need to finish that series now I have a replacement disk as the first five disks were pretty decent ...

Ah i did not consider that it was just the same name written in kanji and hiragana.(I think i heard that there is a third one as well katakana or something ?)Quick google indicates that there are 2 more written languages:eek:
Way too difficult for me who basrely passed English 30+ years ago :D
Anyway got my season 4 of Maria Sama delivered today :D,still in its cellophane lol

Can anyone recommend me Anime that's sort of like One Piece, Naruto, DB, or Bleach?

Not really my genres but possibly ...

Samurai Champaloo
Soul Eater

edit: first of those may be stretching it about as it's a bit more serious than the shows you have listed ...

Finished watching The Sacred Blacksmith earlier.

Could have had a decent plot. Could have had good action sequences. Could have had attractive characters. .... but all these were could have beens ... overall it was pretty mediocre and it really needs a second season to give it any form of conclusion as the current one is just the end of a plot arc and doesn't really conclude anything ...

felt the same, it was ok but really seemed to miss off the bits that could have made it a good anime

mmm i wonder what they could be :).

new GITS 3rd gig please.
could be anything, but thats what i'd put my money on for the series anyway.
would be nice for a new series of gits :)

A new series of GITS would be good, but looking back over what Production IG have done in the past there are various other things it could be.

Speaking of GITS I see that GITS2:Innocence is going out of print on R1 (both DVD and BR) due to license expiry. It's already out of stock at TRSI. This may well affect the UK release too as the back of the BR has the Go Fish logo who (with Dreamworks) held the original license.

Currently zooming through the second series of YUA again.

Cool

I quite liked Nausicaa, i wonder how well it will look on Blu Ray tbh.

I'm sure some of their later films would look very nice, Spirited Away, Howl, Earthsea etc.

That's good to know, I'd been considering the JP BR releases (as a low priority).

I was quite surprised to read that the second season of K-On apparently managed ~£14M in merchandise sales in three months too (~Y1.8B).

Ooh, more Ghibli blu's :)
I may add that to my "when i have the spare cash" list:) (I've got all the DVD's released here, but most have only been watched once or twice).

I'm working my way through Mai Hime, about halfway through disc four with it's revelations, and it's enjoyable :) (I would have liked to have been on disc 5 or six by now, but I've not had much chance to sit and watch it).

Must attempt to try and watch the last two disks of Mai Hime this weekend ... if I can fit it in (I'm away on a course in London next week so need to sort a few things out so that I have a selection of things to watch in the evenings :))

edit: Remember the Training With Hinako anime fitness video .... well there's now an android version, she does the exercise as you move the phone when you do the exercise ... :)

Very good news as this was one of my first Ghilbi films and has been my most favourite since I was young.

Everything about Nausicaa would so make for a good JRPG too.

That jus gave me an excellent idea for an Unreal Tournament 3 vehicle.

Nausicaa Glider ...hmmm...

Nausicaa would be very much like any of the tales games i would think if it were a jrpg.
