Soundwave sounds like your sorting office either isn't very organised, or your postie really likes you ;)
Our sorting office rarely seems to have anything go wrong (so very few lost letters for me:)), but also never seems to miss collecting fees if they've been charged :(

I think it just boils down to my local postie being incompentent more than anything.
It's not the first time things like this have happened...the other week I ordered the original Salems Lot from Ebay & it was sent recorded delivery but was shoved through my door without getting a signature, just think he's lazy & wants to get home :D

Loopstah,
Your gonna love Elfen Lied, I'm saving the last 2 volumes to have a marathon session on Bank Holiday Monday once I get back from my weekend at a freinds in Kent :D

As for Urotsukodoji, it is a VERY harsh anime, but nowhere near the worst from what I can gather.

Just got Ghost in the Shell

Loving it. Is the series any good (please no spoilers) and how many series are there? How many films are there?

I thought the story line and artistic talent involved was fantastic.

There is a second film Ghost in the Shell: Innocence which is pretty good.

The series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is great. I've only seen the 1st Gig so far but you can get the full 1st Gig for £30 from a few competitors which is what I bought.

As the title says the episodes are either Stand Alone in that they are self contained stories or Complex in that they are part of the series story arc and tie in to previous episodes. The animation is fantastic for a TV series and the story is very good with the stand alone episodes offering character building, humour or just a good cop story while the complex episodes keep you guessing about the main villain and their motives.

The film and the story aren't connected though besides sharing the same characters.

The second Gig is currently being released on DVD at this time so I'm looking forward to watching that at some point.

Also there was a giant customs charge note on the front that states "This package cannot be delivered until thes charges are paid" well clearly it can...because I havent :D lol
Got off a £7 charge lightly there me thinks ;)

That happened to me a few months back, what made it even better, the postman just handed me the package with a grunt of "here you go mate" and walked off, saved me £9 :D

Had a bit of a nice surprise yesterday, got Eureka 7 box set and the New Patlabor The Movie super duper version and didn't get hit by customs :D Anyone else getting Eureka 7?

Need to find some time over the weekend and watch a few of the series i have not watched yet, got my head into WOW and haven't watched much Anime over the last year, except the occasional film. So i have GITS:SAC(disc4 onwards). GITS:2nd Gig, Gundam Seed, Full Metal Alcamist, Stellvia, Zone of Enders and some Urusei Yatsura. Bloody hell, thats a lot of Anime to catch up on.

I'm considering it, it looks like it could be good. Also got my eye on Trinity Blood and Elemental Gelade which start coming out on DVD soon as well. Seeing as most of the stuff I've bought so far has been box sets it will be a change to buy a series as it's released.

Watched 2 short series today.

Earth Maiden Arjuna was interesting due to my environmental background and also by the way it focused more on the personal aspects of what happens when your average schoolgirl gets dumped with super power and asked to save the world than on the action and flash side of things.

Elfen Leid was so much more than I expected. I think it had pretty much everything, violence, comedy, drama, intrigue, love, action, sorrow. It definately ranks at the top of my list of anime series I've seen. Simply amazing, it just worked in so many different ways. Wow.

Told you didnt I :D

I'm itching to watch the last 2 volumes now but I'm going away tonight till Sunday evening so that will help make the wait till I can see them properly a bit more bearable :D

Ghost in a shell 2 and Ghost in a shell 1st gig vol 1 - 7 ordered

Watch the film sequal then the series?

If you've watched the first film the second film follows on from it. Neither relates to the series so it doesn't really matter which you watch first.

Customs seems to have had a lax week as I've had 2 parcels come straight through this week. :D Not that I'm complaining.

Loopstah,

Hope you dont mind but I was just checking through your DVD Collection thingy & saw you have the Beserk set.
Have you seen it yet?
Is it any good?
I've been looking at this for sometime now but havent got round to buying it, is it worth the purchase?

Only turned up in the post this morning :D

Probably watch it over the weekend.

Anime Works have the worst cases though for their collections. Cheap and basic 6 discs in one case. :(

LOL Blimey your quick to update your page then :)

Will be cool to here what you think...looking at the reviews it sounds good but will be nice to hear an opinion from someone on here.

Loopstah, did you pay much for the set?
I ask because I hope you didn't pay too much, IIRC Anime Works are one of the Chinese pirate groups :( (who normally do copies of R1 releases).
Which would explain the packaging, as the R1 release was from Media Blasters.

I just finished the first .hack book and it's certainly shedding some light on the background of The World, and some of the characters, i'm going to try and make a start on the second book later.

Actually now you mention that Werewolf looking at the pic on Loopstah's DVD Profiler it does bare a striking resemblance to the covers of the boots that are widly available on the Bay...hoping it's not though :(

Neil

No worries it's the official R1 release. Media Blasters releases stuff under the Anime Works label. It's not suprising it looks like a boot as they copy the originals. :D

They just seem to skimp a bit on the budget collection re-releases. Magic Knight Rayearth 1 and 2 are the same but at least with series 2 they used a triple case. I suppose it encourages people to buy the premium collections when they release them.

It was only £33 from DVD Pacific but they look like they're out of stock again.

ah, sorry I forgot that that some of the U.S. companies release under different names (Central Park Media release some of their stuff as U.S. Manga Corps), and Anime Works was ringing a bell for the wrong reason :)

Aye, going with the cheap packaging seems to be one of the ways the R1 companies seem to try and pursuade people to get the first/normal release, it's the same reason ADV started to remaster their DVD's for thin pack releases (it cuts down from say 7 disks to 5 or less and encourages people to get the normal release if they want the extras).

I made a start on Captain Tylor and I've got mixed feelings about the set, the box is pretty much first rate, it's 2x boxes that slide one inside the over (so no open end when it's closed up if that makes sense), but the disks themselves are in gatefold things* with some very tight mechanisms for the DVD's (i'm using a blank CD to loosen them up).

The series itself looks fun, i've only watched a couple of episodes and suspect i'm really going to enjoy it, although it looks like an older series than I was expecting.

*There are 3 or 4 of them, one with the OST, one with the Extras, one with the 4 main DVD's and one for the Novella.

Watched it today.
I thought it was good if a bit bloody. It doesn't look as nice as some of the newer series but it doesn't look too bad.
I thought the story and characters were good in the most. It all goes a bit Evangelion in the last few episodes though which although some stuff like that was hinted at through the series it just gets silly at the end. There was a lot of good stuff throughout though which makes up for it in a way.

If you enjoy swords and blood then it should be enjoyable enough though.

EDIT:Apparently from reading about the story makes a lot more sense in the Manga than in the series as the series doesn't cover that much of the story being mostly a reminiscence while the majority of the manga is based in the present.

Also watched the Martian Successor Nadesico movie. It had a darker tone than the series and I didn't think it looked as nice either. Being letterboxed didn't help either. I was a bit disapointed in it really.

Kiki's Delivery Service restored my faith though with a wonderful and fun story. I really should pick up the rest of the Ghibli films as they are always a good watch.

Have you read any of the Beserk Manga loopstah?

I remember reading a bit about the series and the manga when the DVD's first came out, and from what I can recall the series (as is so often the case), only covers a very small part of the Manga.

I finished the .hack//AI Buster books the other night, and they give quite a few nice insights into The World, it's history and some of the characters :)

spamming a bit :p

According to a thread on AOD a press release from Beez (Bandai Europe), says they have got the rights for the first Patlabor movies back from Manga*, and it sounds like come June/July we'll be getting a mirror of the U.S. release, new dub, 5.1 sound and probably the Special Edition version with the extras disk, artbook and information book:)

If they do release a R2 SE then thats very good news. Its about time we got the same treatment as the R1's, saying that tho, i'm still buying the R1 SE of Patlabor2 (already pre-ordered)

aye, I think the U.K. companies have started to realise the market is here now for the odd SE, especially when they can source the materials from a partner in the U.S.

We've had some very nice SE's recently with the GITS:SAC Official Log 1 by Manga (Identical to the R1/R4 apart from some very minor things), the FMA tins and other boxes from MVM etc.
