at this rate itl take longer to download the new driver than the game at my end whats going on with the amd servers

I've just seen you can do a "minimal" install which removes the capturing and streaming fluff from the drivers. I'm going to give that a go and see what is chopped out. It certainly installed much much quicker. Hopefully it removed the upgrade recommendation thing and Radeon Overlay and Notifications about signing up for notifications and the performance monitor and the floppy interface in general!

Edit it did not install quickly that was it uninstalling the old drivers

Pretty much all the things you complained about can be turned off in settings regardless of which install you choose.

You can turn all that off if it bothers you under the general tab incase you don't know.

I thought that the minimal installation removed the performance and tuning functions though, somthing that i use all the time.

Had to revert to 21.4.1.

Noticed a flickering on my screen both in games and on the desktop. Tried turning off all the usual extra things, freesync, virtual super resolution. Disabled freesync on the monitor, set refresh rate to fixed 60Hz. Couldn't get it to stop. In the end I ran the AMD cleanup utility in safe mode, rebooted and reinstalled 21.4.1. And so far I think it is OK. Very odd. Never had that before with a driver update from AMD. Always been fine. This is with a 6700XT.

Remember when driver packages used to be around 20 megs

Check Window Display Properties, perhaps the refresh rate had changed from the previous setting.

Thanks buddy, yeah it all seemed to be set OK. Still set to 72Hz (my monitor only does 60-72Hz with Freesync). So I fixed it back to 60Hz but still flickered. This is on a single monitor setup via HDMI. Usually it's rock solid. They do however always seem to mention "flickering" in each release in some shape or form (in the known issues section) so perhaps I'm just unlucky. Will wait for the next release.

I had no issues with 21.4.1 so will just have to stick with it for now.

Ahh yeah, I remember those. I can recall one that opened 10-13 file streams at the same time and it would cause my ADSL modem/router box to grind to a halt half the time. Good times
