The AMD Driver Thread

hehe :D

I wouldn't touch the titan x even with a barge pole! :p

Not sure what I would do as I wouldn't want the 970 due to 3.5GB VRAM and the 980 is a rip of for what it is as well...

I just hate this whole being tied to one GPU brand and g/free sync monitor crap! Saying that, I can see nvidia having no option but to drop gsync and being forced to support adaptive/free sync at some point.....

That would mean "baking in" support on to a new line of GPU's. While supporting the older cards using G-Sync. The best solution would be for Nvidia (I think) is to just to forfeit any royalties, they get from the module. While driving down the cost of it. So a monitor can support both standards, at a reasonable price. Then slowly phase out the module, and just have newer cards use adaptive sync under a G-Sync 2.0 brand. This would save face and reduce costs IMO.

Yup spot on!

The way I see it atm is that there is no point of monitor manufacturers spending money on gsync when they have a free solution that works just as well.

I think unless your running a single card and recently got a freesync monitor your not going to be that happy with a three month wait for these drivers.

Far cry 4 is the same for me... Yes iv been told to turn off GW feautures... but I shouldn't have too. Im getting the same fps in single card that I am in crossfire. Crossfire has been a thing for a very long time now and its a shame you can't just get a new game to work proper straight away in this day and age. Seems you have to do a work around every time or wait months for a profile and by then you've finished the game on a single card or don't even care anymore.

Dying light which I haven't played more than 15 minutes off because im waiting for a crossfire profile im still waiting for.

AC unity runs better certainly so that's a plus.

No 21:9 VSR resolutions yet.

I can understand that they took along time because of freesync but that's a feature so little people actually have need for at the moment.

I'm happy at the moment, who else is happy? Raise your arm(s) and type.

Im happy, as im a single card user, that had no problems at all with the Omegas, its just a shame on AMD, for holding their drivers back for 4 months, just for the launch of FreeSync, when they could have easily done what they've done in the past, and staggered the drivers release, so Xfire users could have had their updated profiles months ago.

Is there a way to hardlock games to 60Hz at 2560x1440 in the CCC? So many of my games black screen, as they see my monitor can do 144Hz and then thinks that is what I want it to play at but as it can't do 144Hz on my 290X, it then black screens. Dying Light is the latest one to do it.

You need to change the game's refresh rate as you've had it set for Gsync at 144hz Greg. Drivers will not change the games refresh for you, unfortunately.

If you want to get 144Hz working on that panel, then take a look at this.

That's the only solution now as the Rog uses timings that simply don't work properly with our gpu's.

Once you select 60hz in CCC or Windows it should stick at that.. You sure them games just not remembering your Settings from when you used 144hz?

Hmm, okay i was not aware of that Shanks. :)

If so I would look into the games folder and see if you can change the config file etc.

Yeah here

Sorry, what i meant was I was not aware that will override settings in games. As far as i know, games rely on separate settings in a User.CFG file (or similar) to store things like resolution, refresh rate etc.

Yup, only way you're seeing 120/144Hz is the VG278H but you've not got the space so it's quite a bummer for you Gregster. You could try the timings as Matt has suggested.

Is there an issue with other G-sync monitors Matt or just the ROG Swift alone?.

As far as I know J.D, only the Rog Swift, purely for the fact it uses non industry standard timings. It's quite unfortunate that these specific timings used, simply don't work well with our graphics cards. It also explains why that solution provided above, works.

Ah that's good then (apart from Asus's move). I was wondering if it was to do with a method from your competitor to block AMD from using these monitors but all laid to rest now, thank you.

Quite ironic that the notorious green Gregster has to have that monitor in his short test. One might say it's all going as planned but, I'm just messing around :D.

I couldn't possibly comment if our competitor had a hand in deciding the timings.

Well I installed Dying Light for the first time 4 hours ish ago and black screen from the off. Alt + Enter works in some games but not others and sadly this is the others. I have 60Hz set in CCC but the game cfg doesn't have an option to set Hz. V-Sync still black screens.

Basically is there a way of forcing 60Hz so I can just play games?

Edit:

I know of other AMD users who have the ROG Swift but not read enough to know if they are having my issues.

Sorry Matt, I was thinking out loud. I wasn't asking as I know the score ;).

I know of other AMD users who have the ROG Swift but not read enough to know if they are having my issues.

Some have been able to run 120Hz without the flickering. Most 60-85Hz. A guy sent back three Swifts and on receiving the third, was able to use 120Hz. This was with the same GPU. That is why I've said to you from the very start that I believed it was an Asus issue and not AMD. I only started to read into it to try and help you out but sadly the timings fix is all there is and is not guaranteed to work.

What about if you delete the video settings file and allow it to recreate a stock setting?

I got it going by alt and tabbing and then tabbing back (whilst in black screen mode) in and working on the settings from there. It runs in windowed mode at least :)

What amazes me is why does it run at all? If what you say is true, how come I can run it at 85Hz and even 100Hz (still the occasional flicker) but if it is because of the non industry standard timings, surely it wouldn't work on my 290X full stop?

Changing the refresh changes the timings, as far as i know.

Glad you got it working.
