The AMD Driver Thread

I'm having serious issues in FC4.
I've done the stuttering fixes, Matt suggested. I have found that with the official farcry 4 crossfire profile, gpu usage fluctuates massively between 50% and 95% on both cards. As a result, the frame rate is barely more than with crossfire disabled.

I have also tried the AFR profile, and it gives better performance, but massive flickering everywhere. The 1x1 profile seems about the same as the official profile.

I have tried a variety of in-game settings (setting everything at Ultra, Very High, and high) and see the same effects (obviously frame rate is higher with lower settings, but the very erratic and much lower than it should be.

Here's a couple of screenshots of the afterburner graph taken immediately after shutting far cry down, to show the effect.

Any ideas how to fix this?

It occurs whether I'm running in eyefinity resolution or 1920x1200.

Can you show us a screenshot of the in game settings from Farcry 4 and your Afterburner settings please?

I'd bet your left nut on it too ;)

All I'm pointing out, is that with HBM around the corner, I don't see Titan X as a worthwhile purchase if someone said "It'll be top of the pack for 2 years" then yeah, I might think that's reasonable enough, but I think it'll be beaten on performance within 12 months.

Hell, Nvidia could even release a 6GB GTX 980Ti that could be 5-10% quicker...

I know there is always quicker stuff around the corner, but my point was that I was close to buying it because of a few game issues that I perceived to be GPU/driver orientated, and then over the weekend I've found performance to be much improved and it really made me take stock and think that money is better off in my bank account...

HBM is brand new tech and will need revisions to be perfected.

GTX 980Ti has 6GB VRAM though...

Pascal will be great when we're a year or so into that architecture.

I think two Titan X's will beat the first top end Pascal card though. Obviously costing a lot more to do so, highly doubtful they will release the pascal Titan right away.

Pascal isn't going to be out until mid-2016 absolute earliest. TSMC don't even have the equipment ready yet.

I was going by this graph, though I know it's not particularly accurate.

The start of the box for Pascal appears to be prior to 2016, though often they release the mobile gpu's first, as was the case with Maxwell.

Can you show us a screenshot of the in game settings from Farcry 4 and your Afterburner settings please?

Here they are. I know afterburner's not the culprit though, because I have tried without afterburner running, and with radeonpro instead. I have not used afterburner and RP at the same time.

Here's afterburner settings.

The ingame settings from my last two attempts: these are exactly what you get if you choose Very High and Ultra from ingame menu, and then disable motion blur (not shown).

Try the following please.

Afterburner: Enable unified gpu usage monitoring and disable ULPS. If everything works after this you can re-enable ULPS.

Farcry 4: Disable Fur (GameWorks)

I assume you did the mipmap trick as shown in the videos below?

Yes, I had done the mipmap tweak already.

Okay I did the changes you suggested to afterburner, tried another run, and then made the fog change, and tried another run.
I am still seeing the same thing. Here's the graph from the end of that last run.

It seems like the GPU usage settles to around 49-52% for short stretches, then starts rising up to mid 90s and for a while fluctuates massively before settling back to 50%-ish for a short while and then starting over.

OK, let me clear up some confusion on my Dying Light issues.

My fps drops significantly whenever I move my mouse, regardless of forced or disabled Crossfire. Example, I was in an area overlooking a portion of the city. My fps was sat at 88 (CFX disabled). I moved the mouse left to right and witnessed the fps dropping to around 48. I don't have this issue in any other game at all. Lowering all game settings did not help. See my post on page 92 for original details.
