The AMD Driver Thread

If I read correctly the crossfire profile for Dying Light is to just disable crossfire, because they're not happy with it yet. You could try AFR friendly or another profile, but I'd be surprised if none of them had flickering or other issues.

With CFX disabled, the issue persists. Massive fps drops only when I move the mouse.

What I mean is, even with Crossfire enabled, the drivers automatically disable Crossfire when you boot Dying Light. I think that's how it works:

Important Note:
The AMD CrossFire™ profile for Dying Light is currently disabled in this driver while AMD works with Techland to investigate an issue where AMD CrossFire configurations are not performing as intended. An update is expected on this issue in the near future through an updated game patch or an AMD driver posting.

That's not how it works. Also my mouse drivers or USB port are not to blame because this issue does not happen in any other game. The issue happens in "CPU demanding" areas of Dying Light. Maybe the 3930K can't keep up. AMDMatt had a good time with this game. He runs a 5960X.

Are you getting exactly the same frame rate with CFX and disabled? Moving the mouse and having drops doesn't seem that uncommon as its more load. Use a program to check your GPU usage because IMO the driver is not utilising crossfire for you.

Finally installed the drivers. Reinstalled AC:U and the fps are sky high... but the game now stutters. Didn't get that before (all 3 gpus running) :( Ah well. Downloading the yetti dlc for FC4 and will see how that does.

So enabling my 290x along with my 295x2 in FC4 gives me a fairly decent framerate (mostly 55ish). I'm surprised it actually boosts it over crossfire considering the issues, but I guess a certain amount of brute force is helpful.

Still, I would think it'd be locked 60, we'll see how it progresses I guess.

Downloaded Far Cry 4 last night so am going to give it a spin when i get home from college in the afternoon. Hope my 280X's can handle it, and that the profile works ok.

If you get issues, see my post below. Disable all GW's features.

Disable MSAA (it's bugged) and Fur. (GameWorks)

Did you use the recommended tweaks i linked to earlier?

@AMDMatt

When playing Dying Light, my fps is great until I move the mouse. FPS can drop as low as 48. I will say again, "only when moving the mouse". Disabling CFX did not resolve the issue to my surprise.

3930K 4.5GHz - AMD R9 290X Crossfire - 16GB DDR3 2400MHz - CCC 15.3.
1080p, Max settings, film grain OFF, AA OFF, Vsync OFF.

(Disabling Gameworks settings did not help).

Please assist? Thank you.

You can try lowering draw distance and yes, the Crossfire profile for Dying Light is disabled so you'd need to create a custom profile if you want it to work.

Matt, will we be getting an estimate on when the next drivers come out?

For some, it's in hopes of getting crossfire working in Elite and Dying Light.

Honestly think everyones been made to wait enough now for Freesync. It would be nice if AMD looked after people that that have spent their money already.

April.

Matt, doesn't one of the tweaks you linked to lower textures?

FC4 seems playable to me now although weirdly editing settings in game doesn't give me a huge amount of change in frame rate.

But........ will they be ready? :D:D:D

Just kidding.

But, out of curiosity, are things going to be held up until crossfire is working on Freesync, or will other updates be worked on in parallel and released separately if needed?

If it's the former, I at least know to curb my expectations, but if the former, I will allow myself the tiniest hope of having crossfire in Elite in April...

I honestly can't say as I don't know, but the Crossfire FreeSync driver will contain other improvements that we've been working on in the meantime.

I completely understand and agree with what you are saying. But I am pretty sure the only thing Matt will do is refer you to your sig. lol :p

Edit: Oops, I was afk for a while then replied without refreshing the page. April eh? Not bad :D

Is it just my perception or is Crossfire support getting worse? We are seeing fewer updates and increasing issues.
I'm seriously not impressed that there is still no Elite Dangerous profile - this has been out in beta since May 2014. So I'm guessing that a profile it won't be out until the next release - around the end of June?

Having used AMD cards (in crossfire) for the last 6+ years (5790x2, 6990, 7970, 290) I'm going to switch to Nvidia. I can't be the only one thinking this?

Right, so..

Refreshing a thread all night on Thursday for some GPU drivers has to be a low point in my life.

I think I might have had an issue with the 14.12's, as every time I tried turn Vsync on, games would instantly crash. Not a huge issue as I tend to turn it off at 2160p anyway. I noticed it when Benchmarking Thief, and when I tried VSYNC on in Far Cry 4 and Assassins Creed: Rogue.

So late on Thursday night, I ended up using the media drivers that were leaked and was disappointed with Far Cry 4 results at 4k, as I was getting bad stuttering. I said so here:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=27799277&postcount=2229

When the 'official' beta driver did eventually come along on Friday, I installed them and it essentially broke my Windows 10 tech preview (10041) to the point that I couldn't fix it, and I'm fairly experienced about getting things back up and running.

At that point I was seriously close to ordering 2x Titan X's for 4k SLI...

Fast foward to the weekend and I did a fresh install of Windows 10 from a USB (previously it had updated from Windows 8.1) and installed the Beta 15.3 drivers. So far so smooth.

Out of curiosity I tried Far Cry 4 last night (when I should have been going to bed) and lo and behold it suddenly worked flawlessly! I even enabled Triple buffered VSYNC without it crashing, and though there is a slight input lag now, the stuttering has gone away completely and I was able to ENJOY THE GAME! (at last).

That was
3860 x 2160 @ 60hz
Ultra settings + MSAA off + No NVIDIA Gameworks features enabled.
V-SYNC on
Triple Buffering on

Also, Battlefield: Hardline performance seems better. Can't say for sure if the drivers did anything or the fresh windows install, but again there isn't any perceptible stuttering on the single player campaign any more, which I had previously noticed on the Prologue mission.

So anyway, these drivers have improved things for me, and I no longer have to consider spending £1700 (!) on Titan X's, when I am pretty sure that

A) AMD's high end option will be a lot more cost effective.
B) Nvidia have already said Pascale will have 10x the performance of Maxwell, and that's due out the end of the year according to their graph.

System spec:
5930 k @ 4375Mhz
16GB DDR4 3000Mhz
AMD 295x2 / 290x reference crossfire
Windows 10 Tech Preview (Version 10041)
Samsung 850 Pro
Panasonic 58AX802b 4k TV

Right, so..

B) Nvidia have already said Pascale will have 10x the performance of Maxwell, and that's due out the end of the year according to their graph.

I am pretty sure that is for "certain" types of processing - you should probably no more than up to twice the performance of current cards (Maybe Titan X) for gaming.
