The AMD Driver Thread

Ok, I'll see what i can come up with.

Good to hear.

This game seems to really benefit from using Vsync and Triple Buffering, playing very smoothly here as well using the same settings.

I tried with vsync and triple buffering, and while it ran better, it still had the hitching every few seconds.

Though I feel that vsync and tb are kind of just masking the issue. Like I said, it seemed to run much smoother on AFR friendly, but that has a strobing/flickering affect

What in game settings are you using, got a screenshot?

Infact, just copy my settings as that works flawlessly for me. Bugged AA disabled and all GameWorks effects off.

Right, this works smooth as a babies bottom locked at 60 FPS with 2x290X 8GB running underclocked at 1000/1250, stock is 1010/1375Mhz for these cards.

Copy my settings and see how it works for you. Run your gpu's at stock for now as i see you've overclocked.

That was using 2x290X cards with two disabled, 60 fps locked stable and smooth.

That was on anything from high to ultra (without any gameworks settings), and custom with enabled vs and tb.

The problem was barely noticeable at high, but there.

Like I said, enabling vs and tb is likely just masking the issue - how does it run for you with those disabled?

I used to have a similar issue with BF4 - and managed to mask it with vsync. Didn't mean it wasnt still a problem then.

BF4 for what its worth, runs like butter these days. But then, it is a year and a half old now :)

How do you mean it masked the issue?

If you had stutter with Vsync off and turning it on makes it go away, it's not masking it....

I'm quite happy to play with Vsync on for once...

Because without vsync, the cards can be running 100%, so when something takes longer than it should, it introduces stutter or hitching.

Cap it at 60 fps and the cards might be running 50%, making small performance issues less noticeable.

Edit: I wouldn't care as much if vsync completely masked it for me. Though it shouldn't be there at all.

People have to tweak settings to get smooth single gpu performance, so it's not surprise that the same is required when you throw another gpu into the mix.

It works perfectly with Vsync and Triple Buffering on so that's how i play it.

Same here.

So what you're saying is:

The game with V-sync off is taking your cards 100% regardless of the scene, so when there is suddenly more grunt required, the cards have nowhere to go and you get stutter.

Whereas limiting the framerate to 60, means the GPU's aren't under full load and have power to spare when there is more required from them...

Sounds like a game issue to me.

Same here.

Matt, I said above the issue is still there on high settings...

Should I run all my games on low? I am likely ever to see a problem then...

So, are you saying it doesn't run smoothly with vs and tb disabled?

Run all your games on whatever setting works best for you.

This game runs smoother for me with Vsync and Triple buffering enabled whether i use one, two, three or four gpus.

By the way, the triple buffering fix seems to be fairly common.

Thinking back, Farcry 3 had the same problem. The way to smooth the game out was using Vsync and triple buffering.

Not sure where to post this.

While watching say iPlayer ,4od etc I'm getting weird digital like noises. The only way I can describe the noise is the part in Matrix when he swallows the pill and wakes up out of the matrix, it does that digital noise when the camera view goes down hits throat :/

Anyone know what I'm on about, not sure I even do :D
Anyone ?

Mind informing eyetrip of your revelation in the TitanX thread regarding Farcry 4?

I've stated this multiple times but nobody seems to listen :D.

Using MSI AB with OSD, as soon as there's stutter it's one of the threads that spikes to 100% (usually thread 3).

Happens on both Nvidia and AMD single and SLI/Crossfire!

Ubigames are POS end of story.

I haven't played FC4 or AC Unity yet (bought day zero) I can't bare with them on either vendor.

No need to get snarky.

You know its about more than this game that I am unhappy currently with crossfire.

If this is a cross-vendor thing with this game, fine. I tend not to follow game performance too strongly on cards I am not using.

Not snarky, I'm unable to post in that thread as per the forum/vendor rep rules.

To be honest I'm not overly happy with AMD drivers (especially crossfire) on other games. But the truth is Ubisoft games have engine problems and should not be discussed in driver threads (clearly Ubis fault not AMD or Nvidias).

And that's why the lack of Profiles for those games have not bothered me in the slightest as im not buying them at anytime.

The only recent game i can think of is maybe Dying light if and option to turn off chromatic aberration gets added at some point.

After putting up with it in payday 2 and i still need to get my moneys worth out of that game im in no hurry to go through with it with another game.
