The AMD Driver Thread

I was quite annoyed as running crossfire 290s but it's actually just cutting it on one card. Running on 4k tv and can only get 30fps as no hdmi 2.0 support(until an adapter comes out). I'm getting around 27 to 30 with it mostly on high and gw stuff turned off. Seems like a great game.

Its the thought of removing all those ram sinks that reaaaaaaallly gives me pause (using universal gpu blocks) when thinking of moving over to Nv.

3 x 8GB cards - that was a hell of a lot of ram sinks! Took bloody ages getting em all on!

Well, that and Nvidia don't really have a viable alternative for me right now :(

What are your most played games?

What are your most played games?

Currently....

Elite dangerous, dragon age inquisition (when I have time), hawken, dirt rally.

Had a bunch of games I put off playing earlier this year due to crossfire such as fc4, assassin creed, but not gotten round to since.

Currently putting off witcher.

I'd rather sell those three 290x's and get around £600 and then buy a TX than have to put up with no/poor CF in games or make myself wait to play stuff.

It's only money at the end of the day, doesn't buy you time :)

No WHQL Catalyst Release Since 180 Days – AMD Yet To Respond

On the other hand, It has been AMD 180 days since the previously released a Catalyst WHQL certified driver for their users. While AMD mostly blames NVIDIA for crippling performance on their cards, they easily could have had a fix released like they did with Watch Dogs that ended up giving them big performance increases and bug fixes. The last BETA releases by AMD were delivered to support Freesync and the recent driver update for GTA V. Aside from these, there doesn’t seem to be any update on the software side from AMD since the last Omega drivers. While AMD is hard at work on the next Radeon lineup, it can be expected that AMD will issue a better driver roadmap for the new cards compared to the current generation of cards.

I'm still failing to see the issue with drivers not being whql, which as said before just means microsoft tested them. People have had issues with whql drivers in the past so this weird notion of a ms tested driver somehow being better is farcical.

Well at least you will get new drivers next month with the new cards.
Unless of course AMD decide to launch a new product and not have drivers for it at launch, but of course they would never do that. ;)

Managed to get my game playable at about 60FPS, never drops below 50FPS. Running on ONE card.

Everything on "Ultra" apart from foliage distance and shadows which are on "High". Tessellation for The Witcher 3 set to "AMD Optimized" in CCC.

I wonder if they'll launch a driver that will only support the "new cards", maybe that's what there driver team has been working on!

Well, if the're doing a new expensive premium brand, then they'll have to give them premium driver support as well to go with em, so they'll have to do seperate drivers, premium owners will have to get their drivers on a regular basis, they'll have to get priority over the non premium branded owners.

Its like buying cards (as an example), people don't buy the expensive EVGA cards for the same warranty etc... as all the other brands do they, nope, as if they were gona get the same as all the other brands, then they'd just buy the other brands and save themselves a fair bit of cash.

The problem with AMD is New great and fast cards don't mean a thing if the software support isn't there and at the moment its very poor.
IM not able to enjoy the witcher 3 unless I turn things down or run the game between 25 and 30 fps because my 3440x1440 res really needs both cards to be working in these new games. Maybe they should put more Research and development into the driver team because I half get the impression that they don't have many working on these.

I think everyone has sold their AMD gpu's and jumped shipped to nvidia hence the silence in here now :p

In all seriousness I cant say I blame anyone for doing that. If I could go back in time I probably wouldnt have picked these cards up. I keep reading that Nvidia just works smoother and since it seems like every game I try and play has its own set of issues these days I really do wonder if the extra money spent buying the cards would be worth it as I could spend more time playing games with better driver support.

i really can't see that happening tbh. i think the drivers releases will stay they are for all cards.

having 2 separate drivers would add a bit more work for them.. they already having issues releasing drivers on time.

+1

Does titan X have separate drivers? Genuine question by the way. Last Nvidia card I had was a 670 and it has been a long time I have not browsed nvidia only threads.

I can't see it happening either, so no point in a premium brand, as everyone may as well just buy the non premiums at £300 a pop for drivers when ready, non for months on end etc..., be a lot better than shelling out £700/£800+ for it.

Its $250 to have a driver certified, somehow i doubt thats a major concern....

I kind of wish that I kept my 7850 2gb and just waited until the 980 came out or even until the next lot of gpu's, what was even more annoying is that 2-3 months later, the 290's dropped from £300 to 230/250 AND you got 2 more games plus a better choice so essentially you could get a 290 for at least £180 at the time :(
