The AMD Driver Thread

It is up to the monitor manufacturers to update their firmware as well as AMD to update their drivers to fix the overdrive issue, AMD fixed this issue with their last update.

The Asus IPS 144hz freesync screen has the monitor firmware updated therefore it won't have that issue so I'm sure there is another reason for Samsung's monitor delays.

Benq are still working on their monitor firmware update, I don't think they have been recalled although anyone with the monitor ATM is going to have to send it back to get the firmware update.

Thanks for the clarifcation,Nexus18. If Samsung had cancelled 5 monitors it would have been plastered all over the tech press and I expect there would have had another 100 page thread about it.

Still no Witcher 3 or crossfire freesync drivers? Crazy.

It is,especially since a NV rep just reported they will be releasing drivers to help with the performance issues on the Kepler cards.

I used to term "recall" a bit vaguely. I meant they require the manufacturer to fix issues via firmware update. As it appears, the monitors can only be updated by the manufacturer hence the vague use of the term recall. The Samsung delay is related to this mess because these not only should be available since Apr but apparently Gibbo and Co. had firm delivery dates. In essence, as Baddass explained all monitors seem to have this issue which was caused by AMD and requires the manufacturer to update/fix it with a firmware. The bottom line here is that AMD probably had to allocate resources to something that was not planned. Hence, other "projects" such as the "regular" and "timely" driver updates suffer.

Have you noticed that a Benq monitor had to be recalled due to the failure of Freesync which requires firmware update. Baddass said that all monitors are affected not just Benq which explains why the release of 5 Freesync Samsung monitors was cancelled indefinitely. I think the monitor manufacturers are furious and this is why this amateur ***p AMD moved all the resources to sort out the monitor issues. Imagine, Samsung could not release 5 new 4K monitors due to the Freesync issues.

As a result, the punks at AMD do not care about drivers etc. I am sure Samsung and the other monitor makers might have sent their legal team for a chat. This explains why it all of the sudden the drivers are late.

This from the guy who accused OcUK and Samsung of been in a cartel together

Post one link for your made up BS.

Samsung pulled the plug on the release of the monitors in the last minute. BTW, mark my word more issues are coming. Apparently, Freesync negatively impacts sound quality. Go to the user manual of these new Samsungs and read it there. Therefore, we can safely say that the Freesync may have more issues than we thought.

Some of what he's saying isn't BS, those BenQ owners will 100% have to send their monitors back if they want the new firmware.

On the Samsung thing it's pretty much impossible to prove what the delay is for and probably a bit harsh to blame freesync although getting crossfire freesync drivers will be taking a lot of time away from other aspects the driver team need to work on.

OcUK and Samsung has no Cartel. That was my point but you cannot read anyway. If they would, then Gibbo and Co. would be investigated by the authorities. Gibbo painted a nice picture of the relationship they have with Samsung which I challenged. Samsung does not care about companies like OcUK otherwise we would have a decent answer from OcUK. Be a little bit more logical. Here however this makes no difference. I was speculating based on what I heard why the drivers are late. Please look for the post from Baddass who explained it clearly that all new Freesync monitors have the same issue and require fix from the manufacturers. Multiple manufacturers! This is a mess and I assume AMD had to put resources on this issue as now multiple brands with release schedules and fixes/updates are in the picture. This explains why their drivers are late.

So basically you have no sources for your claims about Samsung.

Would not like to be one of the code monkeys at AMD ATM! :p

100% you say, show me the info from BenQ. It might be that the monitors have to be recalled, but nobody knows anything yet.

The Samsung thing is total rubbish and its from a guy with a proving track record of making stuff up, arriving at wrong conclusions then making sensational claims, like the Ocuk/samsung Cartel thread

So, I want him to post links/proof of what he says.

I am not an expert. I said I was speculating based on what I heard and read and was told.

Let's think logically here for a second without technical details and tell me whether this could happen. The 4K display requires more juice when it comes to cards, right? Crossfire can give more juice. All Samsung Freesync monitors that are delayed are 4K. Me thinking here ... Would you release a new top of the line monitor that cannot be used on all AMD setups? First, you would release a monitor that will not provide Freesync on crossfire right? I think the two are related and this is what I was told. So, is it possible that Samsung wants to make sure that all Freesync drivers are out and work properly before they release something and run into potential logistic nightmare of shipping back and forth monitors to update.

Go and read!

All this anti-AMD stuff is getting more common recently. Nvidia shills working overtime due to the imminent 300 series announcement is my guess.

I think he means that current owners will without a doubt have to send their benq monitors back for the firmware update, which is true as we can't update the monitor firmware ourselves.

Whilst I see your point mz/x, surely we could also say, why didn't the monitor manufacturers notice this issue before sending them out? It is something so basic that it should never have passed the testing phase but then again these days, pretty much every monitors manufacturers QC has gone down the drain, usually riddled with faults be it dead pixels, backlight bleed, not lasting more than a year... But yeah it is up to them just as much as it for AMD to check to make sure that freesync is working well. Also, AMD have fixed the issue on their end via the last driver update, it is up to the monitor manufacturer to fix the problem on their end now, not AMD.

Who knows you could very well be right but I don't see why it would take Samsung so long to fix the issue considering ASUS had it fixed before they even released their monitor, which has also been recalled due to frame skipping at 144HZ.... (not related to freesync)

Apparently, Freesync negatively impacts sound quality.

First I have heard of that. Is that just for the monitor speakers though? If so, who cares, they always suck anyway :p

I haven't seen people reporting any other issues with freesync so far so what will be the other issues?

It is,especially since a NV rep just reported they will be releasing drivers to help with the performance issues on the Kepler cards.

TBF, AMD have stated that they are working on drivers too so, we don't know how long nvidia will take although chances are they will have this update out before amd... :p

After reading the last few pages of the nvidia driver thread, I do appreciate AMD not rushing out a buggy driver though but they really do need to pick up the speed and get something out on Monday.

Overall the witcher 3 is running very well for me on my single 290 though.

People knowledgable in that sector like Badass have pretty much said unless you have the tools to do the firmware update yourself it will need to be returned to manufacturer.

Oh gawd you never experienced Rollo. He was NV FG,and he went into overtime between the HD5000 and GTX400 series launch. He was one of the handful of users in the last decade(and I mean that) that was permabanned from Hexus. He also got banned from loads of other forums too.The mods got fed up and so did both AMD and NV users.

If people thought Matt was bad when he was overenthusiastic....

Please pull up the Samsung manual and read about it by yourself.

So,the manual is now saying that Samsung has cancelled the monitors. Funny place to put that info.

I am still waiting for the information regarding the cancellations. All I see is you trying to twist the argument to something else,so you don't need to answer my question.

Edit!!

I expect you won't give me a straight answer, and you just put 1 and 1 together and came up with 24.3795. Will leave it at that.

Of course I was sarcastic. :p

Did not read like sarcasm, but I see what you mean. Lol. I think had that happened so many nvidia users would have created a thread and be having a field day.

AMD are sabotaging themselves so they can sell themselves cheap :p

It's their special tactic, then they will try and charge premium prices with the 300 series :p

I think their marketing department have a special team called S.T.A.R.S (Special Tactics and Raze Squad) lol.
