The AMD Driver Thread

We need a strong AMD to return to sensible GPU pricing, Nvidia is charging nearly a grand for their flagship which would be a 980Ti and priced accordingly if AMD had a decent offering on the table.

I agree with this entirely and I have said the same many times but would you keep returning to the same restaurant that took forever to bring you your order? I would give them the benefit of the doubt a couple of times and then move on to somewhere else.

I do hope AMD can turn it around to keep a healthy competition but with Roy tweeting the drivers will be here next week and the week is almost over and again it is looking like no drivers, it is just another let down for the punters.

Atleast AMD users can sit and play witcher 3 without any real issues even without a driver update. Im stuck on my 780 with horrible performance issues on spanking newly release nvidia driver that does absolutely nothing for me. If you ask me i rather have the first of the 2 if this is turning out to be the norm going forward. "nVidia the way your meant to be played".

Have to agree. Whilst I am in no hurry for drivers due to not having time to play any of the recent titles, I would be peeved if I was wanting a driver to play and having to wait this long!

It's a total joke. Our "Representative" only seems to regurgitate the same crap as the drones at the top, we want proper answers and now some political bull****. My cards alone are not the most powerful, but together they still pack a a punch. Ofcourse, without crossfire they're useless!

The loosers in this are the lower gen users sadly, including myself and you ofc.

Anything below the R9 290 is probably considered "lower" gen.

Anything below a GTX 960 for Nvidia is probably considered "lower" gen.

The issues people are having with Witcher 3 is one of them stuttering ie not smooth gameplay?
Just i have a 290x and [email protected] and i can get a solid 60fps with most settings on high, but its far from smooth. I mean i did buy it on a whim for £20 from the market place so i can wait for the driver as im mainly playing GTA V.
thanks

The problem is the 960 is normal so fare below a 780/780ti that its laughable. A friend of mine is playing witcher 3 on the very 7950 i sold him when i upgraded and he is having a better time than i am. Its one of those WTF with a big fat ? after.. Time will tell if they are gonna remedy it. Until then im gonna game something else, considering its a singleplayer game im in no rush. I want to enjoy that game and not sit and be p*ssed which would ruin the fun.

In fairness, it's a bit harsh to blame him for that. Part of working for a major company is toeing the party line, whether you believe it or not. Coming out and saying "yeah I agree, our drivers are rubbish, sorry" without permission from the top would result in looking for a new job the next day. Sadly, the respect of people on an internet forum doesn't pay any bills.

What are you talking about?
I can understand crossfire owners.
But anyone else..
What's the problem? AMD is very good with Witcher 3 now.
Actually game perform on Amd better than equivalent Nvidia.
And same time Keppler owners who bought 7xx series for Witcher are crying.
And new nvidia driver is much worse than gta v one. My friend with 980 expiriencing regular driver crashes even when he only running desktop with browser.

And guys from amd preparing improvement for us. Users from guru3d reporting that Windows 10 drivers already squeezing another 10 fps.
Even without new driver I'm very happy with current performance.
With tesselation reduced to x16 I'm having 45+ FPS on ultra with SweetFX SMAA, and 30+ if I move camera close to Geralt or horse head.

I tried windows 10 but just got loads of crashes annoyingly or games wouldn't run. Shame as I quite liked it. Back to 8.1 now.

I do wish AMD would get the finger out and have drivers ready. Of I wasn't currently saving for my holiday/wedding I'd be tempted to jump ship when the 980ti comes out but as it is I kinda need these cards to keep going a while longer

I'm surprised - I'm finding it fairly smooth

I'm running @ all Ultra except for grass, and hairworks

running at 2560 VSR'd to 1080 - AA off

is your 290x overclocked ?my 290 is at 1115/1480

AMD have massively dropped the ball recently with their drivers.

  • Taking 4 months between driver releases.
  • Failure to deliver on promises such as Xfire support for freesync.
  • Missing promised release dates etc.

Having said that the posts from some people are pure hyperbole. It is almost like they are claiming that Withcer 3 won't even load if you have an AMD card. Xfire doesn't work yet for Witcher 3 but it does not render the game unplayable. Should AMD aim to release fdrivers on AAA game release days, yes they should but lets not forget the Nvidia release day driver for Witcher 3 has been an absolute shambles and a joke.

The idea that Nvidia are awesome and all about the gamers is BS. Both AMD and Nvidia could do a lot of work getting their act together on their driver releases.

  • Causes issues in other games (FC4 texture corruption).
  • Causes lockups in Witcher 3
  • Has reduced performance with 7xx series GPUs.

Don't think anyone is under the impression that Nvidia are faultless.

I'm certainly not, and dislike them as a company. But I have spent my fair share of time with their cards, which generally end up being a much less painful experience.

But AMD have been rubbish since the release of Omega. And that is about half a year now.

And I think for many it's not just that Witcher 3 doesn't have working crossfire, but that it's been a trend that been going on for far too long.

Aapart from GTA V, which I personally have no interest in.

Have you noticed that a Benq monitor had to be recalled due to the failure of Freesync which requires firmware update. Baddass said that all monitors are affected not just Benq which explains why the release of 5 Freesync Samsung monitors was cancelled indefinitely. I think the monitor manufacturers are furious and this is why this amateur ***p AMD moved all the resources to sort out the monitor issues. Imagine, Samsung could not release 5 new 4K monitors due to the Freesync issues.

As a result, the punks at AMD do not care about drivers etc. I am sure Samsung and the other monitor makers might have sent their legal team for a chat. This explains why it all of the sudden the drivers are late.

Any source for your claim that Samsung cancelled their monitors?
They may have delayed them a couple of months but not cancelled indefinitely...

I hope you're being sarcastic here. :p

Did not know about Samsung cancelling 5 freesync monitors indefinitely. Oh boy that is bad... Got to say I lol'd at you calling AMD punks. Until they sort things out with drivers I may start to refer to them as punks too. Lol.

How do you define it then? If you cannot tell and in this case nobody seems to be able to tell when these monitors will be released then it is "indefinite". Besides, the point I was trying to make is that monitors in fact run into trouble because of AMD.

BTW, I read the announcement (re: you link) but this is the 3rd announcement since last Nov. How many times will Samsung announce the same monitor without making it available to the public? They do that because they are in trouble and want to ensure those who have been waiting for this not to buy something else. :o Samsung knows that very well because all 5 monitors are 4K. Those who are considering 4K may well be the premium market segment. Bottom line is that AMD came to the market with this Freesync half baked and it created a mess for not only the monitor manufacturers but also for the "regular" driver releases as it tries to address these issues without clearly not putting enough resources in place. Make it worse, the AMD "punks" pretty much think that giving vague updates makes the customers/users satisfied. My view is that if your house is on fire stop buying more charcoal for your barbeque.

Sources for the cancellation of the Samsung monitors?? Source for the Benq recall and if so show the evidence if it was due to Freesync or not some other issue.

Otherwise you could be just making stuff up and seems rather fishy TBH.

Edit!!

Benq only released on Freesync monitor, this one:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-113-BQ

Still being sold from the OcUK shop. Going to ask Gibbo to see of this monitor is recalled.

Second Edit!!

Look at the users thread - seems it has firmware issues. Don't see any things about a recall?
