The AMD Driver Thread

LOL!!!!! So I just browsed the green teams release driver thread on another large forum such as this and it is loaaaaded with complaints. All I see is "never again!" "screw you nvidia" etc..

Sorry, just thought it was hilarious that as it really doesn't matter what side you're on you will have issues. overall I'm pretty happy here on the red team. :P

Yup, reading the threads on those drivers, did narf make me chuckle! :p

All hell is breaking lose in that GeForce forum, and not for the first time, people never complain about their driver problems in here, they go there to do it, in here its all about how God like NV are and how bad AMD's Drivers are.

So how long is this gona go on for? When are we gona get ONE driver for ALL?

Like i said earlier in this thread, seperate drivers for 300 series and 200 series/below isnt gona go down well if the likes of 15.20.1040.. have to be modded every time. Holding back performance on 200 series/below through drivers to try and make the 300 series look better?

(In the 3DMark DX11 API test i have an approx 30% perf increase going from 15.4 > 15.20.1040.. on my 7950)

I really hope AMD dont try this one.

ONE driver for ALL cards man.

BIB, is what they are doing, got to give people an incentive to buy their rebrands.

Normal service will be resumed with those WHQLs that are coming, as they'll be for all cards.

I'm surprised that more people, especially AMD users aren't kicking up a fuss about how AMD are holding back the performance drivers that the 3xx series and windows 10 users are getting... sites and many forum users picked up on kepler cards not performing anywhere as well as the equivalent AMD cards...

Yeah i saw that that the lastest driver updates from Nvidia no longer have the optimization boosts for keplar in them so people have the choice of either Batman running a bit better or 20% better performance in all their other games lmao

I don't know that there is anything conclusive about any of that, someone with all the cards in question needs to test for it.

They need to sell those 290x.... sorry 390x's somehow. :p

Where is Kaapstad when you need him? :D

The AMD? Thats obvious from all the people with 290x using the hacked 300 drivers and getting 10 to 20% performance boost.

I bloody hope so :)

Thats cause we all installed the modded 15.20.1040.. instead of moaning about it :D

We're not holding back performance at all. Fact is our Windows 10 driver was hacked to work on 8.1. If people wish to use Drivers before we've officially released them, that's their decision.

PCPER ran a a series of tests on this just recently and found no discrepancies at all using a 290 and a 390 comparing 15.15 vs 15.5 Beta. :)

performance is essentially identical between the new and older Catalyst beta driver on the Radeon R9 290.

there does not appear to be any kind of smoking gun to point to that would indicate AMD was purposefully attempting to improve its stance through driver manipulation.

In GTA, the graph almost becomes the same as a 390 with the new drivers. The small difference between the 390 and 290 now can be explained by the 50Mhz overclock on the core and the 1000 extra on the memory.

In one area the 290 framerate went from 32 fps to 38 fps when the 390 was at 42 fps.

These new drivers seem to have massively boosted tessellation results and in certain games it makes a massive difference.

I have no doubt that the 390 are faster, clock per clock, by a few fps over the 290 but in some games this is showing up by 10 to 20%. Half of this gain can be wiped out by using the 15.15 on the 290x.

So that still begs the question, why didnt 290x users get these new drivers at the same time?

BioShock Infinite is really heavy on Tessellation and AMD suffer in that game because of it, if there is a difference Tessellation performance it will show up there.

Keep in mind that, 15.15 driver (15.150 branch) ain't the one with lower overhead. That's .200 series. So no driver manipulation there (there was one test though where revievers used 15.200.0.0 version, instead of 15.150.0.0) and got better results that way.

What?

That article clearly shows an improvement on a 290 with 15.5 vs 15.15 which us 200 series owners cannot officially get

Drivers from both camps are a mess at the moment, what the hell is going on?

Yup there are no perfect drivers. Arguably AMD are ahead right now in that at least with AMD's drivers you don't get crashes during web browsing.

The only way to choose between AMD and Nvidia is who has the best hardware, or if you're budget conscious who has best bang for buck hardware.

Driver wise things are always changing..

It's actually funny when you read through various driver forums.

In AMD threads people are cursing drivers, and threatening go nvidia, and in nv forums, vice versa. Yet it's few people that actually make the change.
