The AMD Driver Thread

I'm running Win 8.1 and am currently using the latest official beta drivers, but with all this talk of leaked/modded higher version numbers and new features, I fancy a change. Which is the best/latest drivers to install currently - is it the 1040 ones?

Is AFR for any card via drivers or does it need hardware support?

It works for my R7 265 by simply changing a value of 0 to 1 in registry for "PP_FPSFeatureEnable" located at...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0000

The modded drivers are worth it as they come with performance tweaks that aren't yet in the release builds.

This one has the Adaptive Frame Rate thingy-ma-jig in it and already activated for R9 200 if you don't want to mess about in the registry.

Cheers Humbug, once Windows is fully installed & set up on the new SSD in the laptop, I'll get these installed on the desktop (I'm definitely in a tinkering mood today!). :D

Cheers, are we getting full support though or will we just have to manually mod the registry? I'll wait if it's coming you see, any imput lag like vsync?

Oh, and I'm on a 7950.

Hi, Info needed,
I've got a 4790k (stock clocks) MSI 290x gaming (stock clocks) Windows 8.1 pro and a 60hz 1080p monitor,
I was on the 10.40 drivers from Asder but as I'm trying to find how to get Arkham Knight as playable as possible I wanted to know if the 15.6 drivers are better and what do these newer(?) 10.32 drivers improve on over the 10.40's I got last week?

Cheers

Unplayable for me on the 15.5's and 15.6's.

That's not good new's, For me the issue is when I try to use the Batmobile for a chase and it becomes uncontrollable due to the stutter, I had hoped the 15.6 version might improve it seeing as there the ones marked as having the B:AK driver tweaks.
Thanks for letting me know.

One good thing is you can now buy the title for under a tenner if you haven't got it and don't care about waiting for the game to get fixed, And it's the same with the expansion part which I got the other day for under a tenner on Kinguin.

Just use whatever base driver is the most stable for you then take the dll from the latest driver that fits the game you need. I'm on modded 1040 and using the dll from 15.6 for batman. Works great :)

Nope, kept the card at stock. I didn't see it being worth the increased temps.

CCC driver was giving me failure errors and having to restart itself. But I just installed a backup 260x now and it's running fine under the same system/driver configuration so it's definately looking like a hardware failure.

Memory was elpida iirc, are they poor?

Also, anyone know how ASUS RMA is incase the retailer starts taking the whizz?

Elpida are not one of the good ones

#1 Samsung. #2 SK Hynix. #Last Elpida

My Powercolor PCS+ R9 290 has Elpida clocked at 1350Mhz out of the box, the card is 18 months old and holding up well so far, but i don't like the Elpida IC's and they are known to be bad.

hmm, so AMD will be resorting to 1 WHQL driver per year from now on.
guess they cant make drivers decent enough to pass the certification anymore. that and they dont have the money for it too.
sad days ahead for AMD.

I think right now AMD are ploughing all they have at Windows 10 Drivers, Windows 10 Beta gets a new AMD driver every few weeks.
Win 7/8.1 is about to become obsolete so if this is what AMD are doing i'm with them, there is no point in working on win 7/8 now. put everything into Windows 10.
