The AMD Driver Thread

What GPU's are you using Tony? What games is this happening in? At what settings? Using how much video memory?

I get this as well, I'm running a 295x2 and I've seen this in both World of Warcraft and Witcher 3. In WoW I just thought it was because the game is so basic but Witcher 3 I'm running a mix of High and Ultra settings at 1440p on a 144Hz screen so I'd have thought it would be flat out.

MAtt question.

With crossfire Freesync now enabled and working beautifully I must add, is it right for my core clocks on my GPU's to be jumping around all over the place?

I believe shankley has said in the BenQ Freesync monitor thread that this is normal with freesync.

Windows 10 is out in 11 Days.

But who is brave enough to actually upgrade on day 1?

I'm thinking I might give it a month or so.

Not just with Freesync but at a General rule, if the GPU is hitting its target Frame rate it will down clock itself.

You can how ever remove this by either forcing clocks with AB or disable ULPS.

2 390's Matt. Got a global 120fps lock with rivatuner/msi. all my games Matt, 8gb vram. I was just wondering if it's because I'm at 120fps locked and thought the cards might be throttling as they don't need any more juice as I'm pretty much at the limit I set.

That'll be why then, Powertune is dynamically managing the clock speed to use just enough power (clock speed) to maintain 120FPS.

@Matt

Not sure if you are aware or it has been reported already but Freesync does not seem to work in-game when using VSR. Using the latest official 15.7 drivers with a R290 currently, also tried before on my Fury X (before sending it back = noisy pump) and same behaviour experienced.

Last I checked, Powertune and ULPS are two different (although related) things; Powertune tampers with your clock speeds etc when there is load, to mantain TDP/Power draw limits etc, whereas ULPS is only relevant in lower power modes.

IE Disable Powertune on my card and my card runs in 3D 100% performance clocks 24/7 with no clock speed drops that I noticed for the brief period I looked, whereas ULPS only stops card powering down parts when in standby/stops the second card in crossfire. I don't pay anywhere near as much attention to ULPS now as I did when I had crossfire.

I kinda wish there was a way to limit powertune interference ala Nvidia's force maximum clocks vs adaptive, but alas no. I would disable powertune but don't really want the extra heat/noise running the card at max 3D Clocks 24/7, just want it to run at its full 3D Clocks when in a 3D title regardless if the power is unnecessary heh.

Tony - you can try disabling powertune if you want to using Afterburner, using the overclocking option at the bottom (Unnofficial overclocking, without Powertune support IIRC)

Powertune?

The GPU's can achieve the FPS without running at full speed (clock) so they will dynamically fluctuate to save power, as they can achieve the FPS required at a lower clock.

Regarding ULPS/Zerocore, watch this.

TL : DR

ULPS = ON =

One GPU, monitor in power save (blinking amber), GPU shuts down and fan stops.

Two GPU, user working with PC in non-3D app, GPU 2 shuts down and fan stops.

Two GPU, monitor in power save, both GPUs shut down and fans stop.

Hey guys, got an issue I'm wondering if you can help with...

Just got my new BenQ Freesync monitor, connected it up, install latest drivers, but it's not giving me the option for freesync.

So I've reinstalled the drivers after using DDU, didn't help.
Disabled crossfire, didn't help.
Disconnected my second monitor, didn't help.

Oh and I'm connected using the supplied DP cable.

Any ideas?

I am still having issues with Witcher 3. With everything set to max but AA disabled and tess set to x8 @ 2160p resolution I get ~24fps using one core of the 295X2, with both cores I get about 30fps in same area, with 295x2 + 290X I get like 21FPS. :confused:

I am using 15.7 driver even though that is causing other issues for me. Not sure whats going on, should I just wait until the 29th when Windows 10 is released and see what happens?
