The AMD Driver Thread

@AMDMatt
Is there any way to semi-disable/limit Powertune without completely disabling it?

What I mean by that, is forcing it to the older 2D/Video/3D clocks style state, rather than disabling it completely?

I'd rather use a little more power/generate a little more heat, and NOT have my 3Dclocks vary as they do at times right now, but I don't want to disable it completely and have to run 24/7 at 3D Clocks.

Nvidia offer this functionality with adaptive/maximum performance power management options, so it'd be good to see some parity and it be added to AMD's offerings if it's not right now.

Hey guys, got an issue I'm wondering if you can help with...

Just got my new BenQ Freesync monitor, connected it up, install latest drivers, but it's not giving me the option for freesync.

So I've reinstalled the drivers after using DDU, didn't help.
Disabled crossfire, didn't help.
Disconnected my second monitor, didn't help.

Oh and I'm connected using the supplied DP cable.

Any ideas?

Have you tried both cards on their own, in the top slot ?

I had the exact same problem googly. when I got my two 390's, I put the first one in alone to see how one card would fair. With that card I had no option to enable freesync, it just was not there in ccc. I tried everything, reinstalling drivers multiple times, bought another dp cable etc, nothing. So I put the other 390 in on its own and freesync option then appeared in ccc. tested freesync with one card, which was godly I might add, then put the second 390 in and now running 390 crossfire with freesync still appearing in ccc, and even more godly. 60fps with freesync looks like 120fps lol, amazing, 120fps and freesync is just next level awesomeness. Loving these 390's, amazing bang for buck.

Have you set the monitor to FreeSync mode? Might need to do that first, then uninstall/reinstall 15.7. If all goes correctly upon Driver install and restart it should prompt you to go into CCC and enabled FreeSync.

Hey Matt. I'm just securing a deal on a Fury X. Right now I have SLI Nvidia cards.. What's the best way to go about installing the drivers mate? should I leave the Nvidia ones in place? or rip them out completely? would it be better to reinstall Windows and start a fresh?

What driver is the best for X right now?

You don't need to put the BenQ monitor in Freesync mode Matt, there is no such option on the monitor.

Well, I think I've fixed it!

Bit of googling suggests I'm not the only one with this issue. Not sure if it's a BenQ issue or an AMD one though.

Anyway, the solution was...
Enable Blur Reduction (if it isn't already, even though it's not supported with Freesync) and then disable Blur Reduction. Then the tick-box appears right where Shankly told me it would!
It wouldn't stay ticked though after clicking apply, so had to reboot. Now it stays ticked.

I've no idea if it's actually working though as I can't notice any difference. The little jerky bits that were there before still seem to be there. Not that I had many jerky bits before to be honest. Wish there was a symbol you could get to display, like the crossfire one, just so you know it's working!

Andy, what I would do is use DDU in safemode with the NV cards still in place, select the clean and shut down option (to install new graphics card), once complete and PC has shut down remove the NV cards, fit the new AMD card, boot the machine and install latest drivers from AMD site. :)

Too late, the cards are removed and gone.

I will probably reinstall TBH. I've only had the install about a week, so it's no biggy.

Uninstall Nvidia drivers, install AMD drivers. DDU can be used. :)

My bad, i had that display for a while but could not remember if you had to do that. With my new 4K Samsung FreeSync panel you need to physically enabled FreeSync via the OSD. :)

Matt, any thoughts on my query above regards Powertune?

The ability to vary clocks as necessary to reduce heat and power consumption is great, but it'd be nice to retain the option to have 2D/UVD/3D clocks as static states ala the old format.
I find that the frame pacing just isnt as nice/stutters are introduced when the clock speeds are changing a lot.

Would it be something you could suggest in your new position, as an option, if it doesn't exist?
PPS using morphological AA with the original Borderlands I'm co-oping with the Mrs, looks much better than without :D

One more set of queries I've just thought about, again only if you know or have any clues, or just say if there's an NDA etc:
1) Do you know of any plans for the new Frame Rate Control to have 120/144Hz or higher options in future rather than the current 95 limitation?
2) Will there be any updates to allow for VSR at over 60Hz in future?

Thanks for your time :)

You have two options, you can either disable powerplay via MSI Afterburner or you can lock the clocks using RadeonPro.

You have two options..
INFO

Thanks Matt, is it something you could suggest in your new role as perhaps looking to include in an official manner so it's not something users have to do with 3rd party apps? It's something supported by Nvidia in the form of Maximum Performance/Adaptive power modes, so it'd be nice to see a similar option :)

Why I can't do 3k VSR on 16:10 monitor?

@AMDMatt can this be fixed?

According to the release notes it's not supported yet, so this is expected behaviour. I don't know if/when it will be added, but i expect we'll continue improving the feature in future drivers.

I will pass the feedback along. :)

Same answer as above, i don't know but I'm sure we'll continue improving on VSR in future drivers.

Thanks for answer.
If 3840 X 2400 is not possible on 290/x, can we at last have 16:9 downsampling(3200 X 1800) on 16:10 monitor?
I'm feeling disadvantaged as 16:10 prof. ips 8bit monitor owner, because 3x downsampling is much better than 2x.
