The AMD Driver Thread

One feature I've been hoping AMD introduce via a driver update is Adaptive V-Sync *Not to be consued with Adaptive Sync technologies like Freesync and G-Sync* like Nvidia introduced in early 2011.

If it doesn't require a special monitor I'm in. It takes me so long to save up for new components I'm probably still a year away from a new monitor and my current one is actually okay for a 60hz 1080p model.

anyone been having issues with wolfenstien old blood crashing on start up with new drivers on win 10??

everything else runs beautiful and faster hehe :D

+1 for this, hate running a v-sync game like GTA V then it tries to drop to 30FPS if the frames drop below 60.

after shadow play this is the second thing I miss most from switching from Nvidia

Not a feature I would use but I agree within driver would be nice..
For now you can get it by using radeonpro.

Is anyone on Windows 10, with the latest AMD Driver with an R9 290X? If so, can anyone confirm if Total Media Theatre 6 or PowerDVD 15 will work?

I've just done a fresh install of W10, I've had to run the Omega Drivers from 2014 on my Windows 10 install to get Total Media Theatre 6 and PowerDVD 15 to work :p

PowerDVD 15 works on Windows 10 with the latest drivers, but the performance is unusable.
TMT6 just doesn't run.

None of the issues exist on my Omega install on Windows 10.
Not really willing to pay for DVDpasskey and use VLC either.

EDIT : After trawling the Cyberlink forums, PowerDVD 15 can be fixed (And has been) by disabling the Video enhancements. It's still an AMD Driver issue, but still, least there's a fix.

So far can't fix TMT6 (The only Blu-ray player on the market that'll just stretch for 21:9 correctly without using hacks etc)

I too dislike WinDVD and PowerDVD as they are a bloated mess, slow and just not that great. It's maddening that the best player that can play blu ray and hddvd (yes I still have a few tv series on that format) is now no longer supported.

I have only tried TMT6 6.7.1.199 with a fresh install of Windows10 and using Catalyst 15.7.1 and to get an error that it cant initialise the video overlay due to a driver error. I tried disabling Hardware Acceleration in the program but it didn't help.

Finally updated to Win 10 (which was surprisingly smooth btw) and after installing 15.7.1 I hopped in to good ol' GTAV. Runs great, which is how it ran on WIN 8.1 but one thing I noticed is my VRAM usage is down about 500 - 600mb on average. Pretty crazy :D I LIKE!

In win 8.1 my vram usage always hovered around 3.2gb and tonight it never got over 2.6gb. This is at 4k with very high settings (except tess and grass).

All three of my gpus are working like a charm so far...Keep it up AMD!

Glad to hear that.

Tessellation can be set at very high. The performance impact from it is minimal as the game does not use unnecessary, excessive tessellation.

Sweet, good to know!

Quick question... I also noticed in Witcher 3 my vram didn't go over 1.8gb (again at 4k ultra). Did the compression techniques from the Fiji get passed down? :D :D :D

This is fantastic!

No, the Fury and Fury X are unique with regards to how they handle textures. I expect what you're seeing is Windows 10's WDDM 2.0 handling the memory more efficiently.

It was one of the reasons Mantle under WDDM1.2 (Windows 8/8.1) used so much memory. WDDM1.2 was a problem in that regard.

Good to hear that, how are you finding tri-fire scaling in general in other games, particularly Witcher 3? I'm currently using a 295x2 and getting about 60fps at 1440p but I'd like to try and boost that a bit as I'm on a 144Hz monitor so am considering getting a 3rd gpu in there.

Matt when can we expect new drivers?

When they're ready, we released 15.7.1 just a few days back.

I'm sure you're all aware of this by now, or at least you should be, but I can't give exact dates for driver releases as there is no 'firm' date. One a month, or thereabouts is when we release drivers. Sometimes we'll release a hot fix driver if there's a critical bug that needs fixing, but this is quite rare these days.

If you're hoping for a fix to the GTA V issue, I've already reported it and we're still investigating. Not sure if it's a game or driver issue at the moment as I see plenty of similar reports on-line with varied systems.

Spot on matt bud, yeah running 15.7.1.

In regards to GTA V, yeah i'm not sure either, it's a strange one, no worries though, look forward to it getting sorted either way.

cheers pal

Too anyone getting a black screen problem on r9 290 or r9 290x here is what fixed mine.

I was using a splitter for the 2 power plugs into the gfx card (r9 290). So I changed this and used another from the PSU for the 6 pin one so each power port on the card has its own dedicated PSU lead. This fixes it - it has something to do with the splitter not being able to draw enough power.

You genius.

I went from a HD 7950 to an R9 290X not long ago, I'd tried every fix under the sun, like downclocking it a bit, changing the power settings etc.

Will give this a bash, cheers.
