The AMD Driver Thread

Trying to get the game recording utility in Raptr to work and I seem to remember it being called GVR but all I see is Plays.TV and the Twitch streaming option.

When recording anything with Plays.TV the quality is extremely low, Around the 10Mb/s mark even when it's set to 50Mb/s.

Did they remove GVR ?

Working fine here, they did have a name change a while back to this plays.tv.. It's still GVR but now raptr as more options on using hardware or software encoding.
It also opened the door to allow more games to be recorded even if they don't have raptr profile, the profile adds support for hardware recording if your GPU supports it and yes this now also includes nvidia.

This what the quality is like for me, I firmly believe it's the best you can get for 1080p only recording. They is a known bug atm on windows 10 atm dx9 games recording performance is shocking.

They have both gone very quiet.

I asked like 3 times now if they are planning on working on Ark: Survival Evolved drivers, absolutely no reply. Meanwhile NVIDIA are actively optimizing their drivers for this game.

That's because it's a nVidia game using gameworks so i would only imagine nVidia would do some driver optimisations for this game! It's one of the most popular steam games played or was when i used to play. So it's a good game to get under your wing! And i do agree with you it would be nice to have AMD do some driver optimisations for this game!!

Finally got round to upgrading to Windows 10 (Pro) on my main PC today. Upgraded, activated, then wiped the drive and installed afresh. All going swimmingly and pleasantly painlessly - until I install the AMD 15.7.1 drivers from the normal AMD driver download page.

It's installing without errors, but I now have a 15-30 second black screen before the logon screen (during which I can move the mouse cursor around), and when in Windows my ULPS is disabled so the second GPU is awake even though Crossfire is enabled and it should be asleep.

I've tried uninstalling 15.7.1 and reinstalling it, but same situation. All my other drivers are now installed and Windows Update says I'm up to date, so I'm at a bit of a loss what to do next. From a bit of Googling I've found some suggested "fixes", but none have worked for me so far, or have meant disabling one of my GPUs or a screen, neither of which I want to do.

Has anyone got AMD GPU drivers, Intel GPU drivers, Crossfire and ULPS working on Windows 10 without a delay before the logon screen? If so, any pointers or advice?

I had that until I got the latest chipset and MEI drivers for my mobo from Asus, Went away after that.

The only time I had that black screen delay, was my very first boot into windows 10..ever since mine boots instant to desktop.

Cheers for your help guys. Just reinstalled the motherboard drivers from Gigabyte's website, and made sure all my other drivers are installed - still the same delay in boot and no ULPS. Looks like I've got a headscratcher to deal with. :(

mine does it sometimes as well Stu. It's a weird one that's for sure. Went and bought another DisplayPort cable as well to see if it was that, but nope still the same. I don't get the black screen delay before logon every time I boot, but I do get it from time to time. Your not alone.

Cheers Tony. Mine is currently regular as clockwork - every time I restart I get a delay before the log in screen. Going to try another wipe and reinstall from scratch (only got a couple of hours invested in the current Windows install, so no big loss). I'll be back later. :)

Are your cards overclocked? I have a 290x that black screens on start up as you describe but only when overclocked. I dont have Afterburner set to load overclocks on start up but it still does it. I have to tell Afterburner to restore default clocks before shutting down and then Windows will book fine. It only does it from a cold boot, if i just restart it boots up fine what ever clocks are set.

The overclock is perfectly stable.

Hi Chaps,

We're aware of this issue, will be fixed soon in a future driver update. :)

I wouldnt bother Stu, read last post from Matt on previous page. Looks like its a known driver issue and will get sorted

Oops - missed Matt's post as I was replying! Ah, well, who doesn't enjoy a Windows reinstall anyway? Lovely way to pass the time. :D Anyway, log in delay is back as soon as the AMD drivers installed, but ULPS is currently working, so wasn't a waste of time in the end. Still got a couple of drivers to install (Gigabyte, Logitech and NZXT CAM for keyboard, mouse and Grid+ respectively) so I'll keep an eye on ULPS and as long as one of those doesn't break it I should be happily waiting for the next AMD driver and then I'll be happy.

Only slightly overclocked (1000 vs 947 stock) and undervolted (-50) and haven't had any issues in months. Is your black screen a full one, or can you still move the mouse around the screens? I have had the former when overclocking too high on a 290X (work computer, overclocked it to see if it could) but this is different in that the mouse is still free to move around and then about 15-30 seconds later the normal log in screen appears. Sounds from Matt's post above that AMD have the bug I've got cornered and will squish it in the next release.

OK - found what is breaking ULPS on my system with Win10 installed. It's Creative's SoundBlaster Control Panel!

With the Control Panel open or even showing in the system tray, second GPU is awake and running at idle. Close the Control Panel (and close from system tray) and second GPU goes back to sleep.

Combine this with the CP taking ages to open unless you disable all other sound outputs on the PC (the sound outputs on my two 290's in my case, the motherboard's onboard sound is disabled in BIOS) and I'm none too impressed with Creative's first run at a working Windows 10 driver. Now, off to find some way on their website to let them know about their ULPS breaking software. :)

I get that black screen login delay aswell. Its very annoying lol. Sometimes it logs in straight away sometimes I'm sat looking at a black screen for 20-30 seconds. Nice to see that its a driver issue though as I had no idea what was causing it.

Get the same issue here, cold boot it's done in seconds, restart takes ages, glad to see AMD are on it.

I've come to the conclusion that ULPS on Windows 10 is currently pretty fragile. Just from what I have installed, any one of the following will cause the second GPU to wake up and stay that way until that program is closed:

  • Creative SoundBlaster Control Panel
  • Logitech Gaming Software (with enable enhanced graphics on, ULPS is OK if this option is turned off)
  • NZXT CAM

While the SoundBlaster is annoying, at least I know to make sure it's closed once I've set it up as I want it. Unfortunately, I use CAM to control my Grid+ that ramps up my case fans when my GPUs get warm, and this only works when both GPUs get warm, or one gets warm and the other is asleep. With one warm and one not, it averages them and doesn't up my case fan speeds. What game am I currently playing - Arkham Knight that doesn't support Crossfire, so my case fans aren't budging from idle unless I manually set them to a speed! :)

Looking forward to the next AMD driver, hopefully ULPS will be a little more robust and stay asleep a bit more reliably.

Wouldn't rule out it being other software though.. I wouldn't just blame amd drivers.

For example it's not the driver fault another program is waking up the second GPU.

I don't have crossfire anymore to test my sound blaster software but I do have logitech and do also remember that setting waking up the GPU but that's because of the software not the drivers.
Logitech and creative need to reduce the graphcis demand for AMD driver to stop seeing it as a 3D application and kicking in.

Fair point, and I wasn't posting to try to put the blame solely at AMD's door - I've already reported the issues to Creative too and will report to NZXT later today. However, as each of these programs ran perfectly with ULPS in Windows 8.1, my gut feel is that the best chance of a fix for it is going to come from AMD as they seem to be one of the few companies that actually listen to their customers and release regular fixes and updates.
