The AMD Driver Thread

My Xonar CP works with these as well :)

Had to keep killing it via the TM on boot under the 15.7.1s, as it would just randomly hang/crash, not that i need it, as it was only used to set my Khz, and what speaker set-up im using (5.1). :p

Hey,

New AMD user here, so apologies if this is a noob question; I've noticed the CPU usage during YouTube video playback (especially HD) is a LOT higher with my R9 390 vs. the GTX 260 it replaced.

Is there some sort of GPU hardware acceleration I need to enable, or do AMD cards just not offload video decoding from the CPU as GeForce hardware does?

Cheers,

Su

Maybe:

Control Center>Video>Global Video Quality>Enable AMD Video Quality features in supported video player applications?

Just guessing as I don't really know but worth a try?:)

I'm having big problems with GTA V, Win 10 and 15.7.1, It is crashing and freezing a lot, sometimes it crashs and I get an error msg and sometimes it freezes for a couple of seconds and then it returns.

Before I was using Win 8.1 and 15.6, never had a single crash.

I always had some problems with flickering and the sky going really bright, almost making me blind, but this I could fix with an alt+tab and returning to the game OR changing the resolution and changing back... I still have this problems and now the crashes.

I'm running 3x 7950s and 3x 1920x1080 screens.

As far as I can tell, GTA V is the only game that I'm having problems atm.

Any suggestions?
Should I try the new 15.8 beta?

Couldn't hurt to try. You can't exactly get worse. If it didn't work I would make a new partition on your hard drive to get duel boot fir windows 8.1 then just play gta on that.

It should offload it to GPU if browser supports GPU acceleration. I'm guessing this is HTML5 not Flash? Which browser?

The problem is though, at least in my experience, this power hungry high end GPUs are not all that well suited for this, since power consumption and heat is far higher than pretty much any CPU or software rendering.

Yes its smoother but like I said...

yeah I know, I'm having loads of issues with MSI throttling my cards at the moment. It's weird mate, such a strange problem. Getting drops down to 800MHz on the cores with my cap set to 120fps in MSI AB, yet when I look at my overlay during a game for example, even when I'm not at 120fps (say im at around 90fps for argument sake) my cards still throttle down to 800MHz on the core. When I force the clocks to stay at 1100/1500 and lock the volts, they hit mid 80c which is too hot for me (£700 watercooling coming for my rig, waiting on stock :) so it's a PITA at the moment. I've no idea why it's behaving like this, quite frankly it's starting to pee me off.

I've actually got MSI AB uninstalled right now, trying a few things out to see what my cards are doing whilst running GPU-Z in the background. Oddly with MSI AB gone, I can see in GPU-Z that my cards are running flat out at the clocks I've set and no throttling is occuring at all.

Ok, I will give that a try, thanks!

Using Chrome with the 'new' YouTube player, which I think is HTML5 right? I should probs give Vimeo etc. a whirl as well and see if it's a global issue.

You're probably right about the energy use, but I just want smoother playback... my poor Core 2 Duo can't cope with all that extra work :p

Cheers,

Su

That is strange so MSI AB seems to be your issue here..

Here how my GPU changes with frame rate..

CSGO - 1440p 300fps = 100% load @1030 ------ 135fps load up and down core 900+ ------------ 60fps load up and down core 600+.......... My GPU changes based on how much stress I push it.

Yes the game works in crossfire for me but has periods where the fps drops to 20-30 randomly. Was perfectly smooth and fast on 15.7's.

I've determined that this is happening in Far Cry 4 with either FRTC or Frame Pacing (or both) enabled. I was getting the same drops until I turned both these features off. 15.8 does fix the texture issue 15.7.1 had in Windows 10 at least.
