I get the feeling that this is an issue with Crossfire and Freesync combo matt. I've seen plenty of ppl saying this new power saving feature is working much better, but these have all been on single card setups. Don't think I've seen one person so far saying anything about crossfire and this new driver and the clocks dropping yet.

Could be Tony, I'm keeping an open mind.

Unfortunately one of my Fury X cards died, so i can't test FreeSync CrossFire on my system. I'm not seeing any fluctuation with one Fury X and Freesync enabled.

yep i know that, thanks for the headsup though, just forgot to do it on that last one.

Here's something very interesting, turned off the frame limit in MSIAB, now did the same test as before. Better fps, solid core clocks, more steady gpus usage, no spikes etc. Interesting. Going to retest turning MSIAB frame limit back at 120fps.

And before

25050088333_b05023bf16_b.jpg

No need for MSI AB to lock FPS if you use FRTC. This could explain the issue and why i was unable to reproduce it. Limiting FPS artificially by third party software could trick the powerplay algorithm into lowering the core clock.

Well this is odd, but good. :p

I rebooted (as id only just popped the 16.3s on, so i was still on the mandatory restart you have to do after installing them), turned Xfire back on, set ABs frame limit back to 0, fired up GTA V, and this time, both cards cores locked to 1040MHz, didn't shift, so quit the game, set my frame limit back to 143 again in AB, and re-fired GTA V back up, and no change, both cards still locking @ max 1040MHz, so looks like my reboot has done something, as its all working fine here, both cards locking at max clocks in Xfire, with Power Efficiency OFF, and a frame limit set in AB.

Even tried Dying Light again, but this time with the Frame Pacing on, and both cards still locked at 1040MHz :)

EDIT: I am using FreeSync as well.

Always reboot first... :p

Glad to hear it's sorted for you. Tony might want to try:

  1. Fresh Windows Install
  2. Fully Update Windows
  3. Install Crimson 16.3
  4. Restart (:p)
  5. Disable Power Efficieny
  6. Install MSI AB + GTA V
  7. Apply Overlay Settings Only To MSI AB (no fps cap or other tweaks with any third party software)
  8. Test

Hmmm... I've started getting odd video crashes over the past week, typically when doing something like playing a game in one window, while watching a video (eg: youtube) in another. Ultimately, the display will get corrupted and I have to reboot.

Wondering if this is due to the recent driver update!?

Try disabling hardware acceleration in the browser.

@AMDMatt

Hey do u know if there isnt gona be any driver profile or optimization made for the DayZ Standalone game now that DX11 has been implemented into the game? Framerates are really good now but there is some stuttering now and again, can this be sorted at driver level? Lead Producer Brian Hicks said he was going to be working with AMD and Nvidia now its DX11.

Any news on this please mate? :)

No news but yeah we'll be working with them.

Bashing one out and updating his twitter followers on how many he lost that week! ;)

I think he has got a house but still benching etc, I'm sure he will pop his head in some time soon.

Fllwers is an automated tweet. :D

It seems that in Doom Hawaii and Grenada are broken at the moment giving lower performance than a 380x and 960.
I'm sure it's being worked on though.
Put a ticket in about it (It can't hurt for them to see more fix requests).

We hope to have a fix soon for the lower than expected performance on some GPUs.

It runs very well on the Fury X at 4K.

Thanks for the response. Do you know if this fix will include stopping the game from crashing?

In additional to the terrible performance, I had to launch Doom many times before I can get past the intro screens. Once I'm ingame, I crash to desktop within 5 minutes usually.

Not sure.

Tbh they need to do it quick as with a launch of cards coming from both sides this is very poor timing on a AAA game. Can you answer how Vulkan performs or is that classified.

We had our Doom driver out before the game released and we'll have a fix out for this soon.

I can't talk about Vulkan performance.

@Matt could do with help here. Diabled XF just incase, and ran on the 295x, and once again 60 seconds in give or take, throttling YET temps aren't going above 64C... I've ran out of ideas...

AMD are sending me a 295x2, but i don't' have one on hand to test with. It should arrive early next week so I'll let you know what i find out.

Have you tried using Clock Blocker in the meantime?

Ok cool. Yep used clockblocked, still throttles down. I've disabled and re enabled XF, no change. Like I say temps mid 60's, so nothing to worry about there. Weird... yet runs like a weapon for a minute or two... then it all goes pear shaped and as soon as the throttling starts, the gameplay and fps just drop to unplayable.

What is the core clock/memory dropping to?
