The AMD Driver Thread

Get this weird grid problem on DOOM, using the 16.3s.

DOOMx64_2016_07_03_15_03_05_183.jpg

Guess updating to the latest ones will fix it ?, if so, i'll do that when i get around to playing it, as on with other games at present :p

I raised this issue internally a while back.

Have you enabled Anisotropic Filtering in Radeon Settings? If so, disable it and that should resolve the issue. Failing that DDU & update your drivers to 16.6.2.

hi guys i need help with my new PC and most importantly AMD R9 390X GPU

basically everytime i try and load Ark from steam i get black screens and a message to say my graphics driver has failed and had to reset,

the PC is a brand new build - maximus hero 8 MB, i5 6600k CPU, however i am using a riser cable from the PCIe slot 1 (16x) into the card. i am lost now at what i can do next

so after installing loads of various drivers and programs etc, i went into safe mode and used a program called DDU to uninstall everything relating to the GPU i then used the Intel graphics driver from the disc that came with the GPU, (which i hadnt done before now) once that installed ok restarted pc then downloaded crimson 16.2 (as stated as the latest driver for Win10 64 bit)

installed everything that it offered and then restarted, the graphics is fine during normal use (like now) but its only when the GPU is under load i.e loading the startup for ark that it dies, ive have had the GPU running in my old PC with water cooling which was a gigabyte board and an i5 the only major difference is that my old pc was running DDR3 this new build is on DDR4 (not sure if that makes a difference)

i have also flashed the bios on the board to the latest version from ASUS

is there anything i havent done do you think? or something i should try

any help would be much appreciated thanks

Does it happen without the riser?

i tried the verify game files and it said that some were missing so it downloaded it all again,

i wish i could try without the riser but as its a hardline water cooled build i would have to drain and re route the pipes and the fill up again, i will do that as a last resort

i have however removed the cable form the board and re seated it, and did the same on the card

Trying an older driver would be a good test with less effort. It if occurs on an older driver then it could be due to the riser, or a hardware fault.

It's an old driver but it's super stable, try Catalyst 15.11.1 Beta.

It's still available (Display Color) it just lives in a different area and uses the OS gamma control. It should have the same functionality AFAIK.

I've already shared the feedback that some users prefer the old method.

I've found previously that multiple, different screens attached to the GPU gave me raised memory clocks but switching to multiple, identical screens allowed the memory clock to drop back to the same as it did for a single screen.

Haven't installed the latest driver yet, will try to get to it this weekend and will feed back if my memory clock stays low as it does the for the previous driver or if it gets stuck at high as it did when I was running multiple different resolutions.

That's because typically most GPUs have two memory clocks, idle and full 3D. When different display timings are used it usually kicks the memory clock up into the next clock state as more resources are required. If the displays and timings are identical, sometimes you get lucky and the memory clock will sit in idle.

This is not a bug and controlled by the bios on the GPU.

Could someone give me a quick explanation of the "Minimum acoustic limit". It's the one setting I don't understand.

With this new control, fan minimum speed, target speed, and min acoustic limit can now be set. Minimum, is the absolute minimum the fan can run at. Target, is target maximum fan speed, the fan will run at if temperature level is not above target. Min Acoustic Limit is the clock limit/threshold where acoustics can be violated.

Raptr has started crashing Witcher 3

Not when doing anything with it just having it running on windows start

Anyone else had this or problems in other games?

Known Issues
A few game titles may fail to launch or crash if the AMD Gaming Evolved overlay is enabled. A temporary workaround is to disable the AMD Gaming Evolved "In Game Overlay".

am i right in thinking the 16.7.2 drivers dont recognize rx470 cards i want to oc the memory to 2200 thats why i brought the 8 gig cards
will this be fixed on 16.8.1 to allow the memory to oc to 2200 and any idea when it will be out

many thanks

From Matt on twitter...

''You'll need 16.7.3 for the 470. Don't think the device ID for the 470 is in 16.7.2, which would explain what you are seeing.''

''It's a bug, we'll fix it.''

Soon™. ;)

Shankly you absolute gem.

Twitch, youtube, and even ******* facebook have been making my PC turn into a leafblower for the last 2 years. I've googled it and found nothing, and then you come along, like a bloody white knight, with the solution.

Legend.

Now your CPU does the rendering while browsing, and the UVD component inside your 7950 takes early retirement. :(

The Nano is missing button to turn off power efficiency (16.8.1).

Capture_zpsqwirsprd.png

Any other clue to resolve the flickering issue other than go and buy a 1080 or a Titan?

The Nano should never of had this feature, as it didn't have any power saving optimisations like the other Fury and 3xx range. If it did show up as an option, it was a bug.

If you can reproduce it with a certain driver, let me know and provide a screenshot please.

Disable hardware acceleration in the browser you using?

8tGsICD.jpg

Last 10 minutes of this GPUTemp graph are watching a Youtube clip

shankly1985, I did think about that, but nothing has changed on my machine apart from these drivers... so basically, why should I? Is it good practice to do this as a normal 'tweak'?

Sorry, very new to this thread... I see people on 16.7/16.8 with problems. Is there a known good driver version I should try to install? Like I said, first time I've ever had any problems so I didn't think twice about upgrading.

It's a 7970 btw.

I wouldn't recommend it unless hardware acceleration is causing issues when watching video. Disabling it will force videos to render on your CPU and that usually means more dropped frames while watching videos. When you watch via with hardware acceleration enabled (GPU) you should get less dropped frames. You can test this yourself by right clicking a YouTube video and selecting Stats For Nerds while watching video on YouTube.

Yep, but it is working around what I guess is a bug in the driver that boosts the clockspeed of my 7950 from 300 MHz to 500 MHz under essentially zero load (e.g. facebook).

I think it was PSU fan noise rather than 7950 noise, but either way this change solves it. Less efficient in terms of rendering, but more efficient in power.

It's not a bug, it's the GPU acceleration working when you open a browser.

Definitely nothing suspicious running in the background and I didn't have this issue with the older drivers, now I have reverted back to using older drivers the issue has not cropped up.

Not sure if its solely linked to the RX 480 as I noticed that quite a few people complaining about the same issue seem to be running an RX 480...

Anyone out there having the same issue and NOT running an RX 480?

We are investigating reports about that issue, think it could be related to Steam somehow.

I'll turn it back on when my RX 480 arrives, as I expect that to draw a fraction of the power of the 7950 under such small loads. :)

Yep should do. If you are worried about that sort of thing enable compatibility mode and power efficiency in Radeon Settings.
