They are good though. They were let down only by the stupid reference cooler which has gave them a bad name. A year on i would rather have a 290x over a 780ti which was released at the same time.

To be fair the 290's havent been a bad generation. they've competed with 2 nvidia generations and held their own.

When you first swapped it out, I remember thinking its either going to work like a raindance and they will suddenly get released or its just the start of a long dry spell

My comment was in reply to TheRealDeal, who said the 390 really needs to be good or AMD are in trouble

I was basically saying everyone said that same thing before the 290/x, and that card was great.

Just been looking through some of my files and I seem to have a hell of a lot of AMD drivers and stuff in separate files on my SSD. I am sure I can delete some of it but what?

The CCC is always bugging me to update my drivers then just updated me to 14.4? :confused:

Would you just uninstall all AMD gubbins, delete the files and start again?

Only the first one you safe to delete. That where the files go when you first install and the extract from the file.
