The AMD Driver Thread

well there's a a surprise, turned off the power saving feature in Global Tab, core clock issue not fixed. Back to the 3rd party programs to lock it. GPU1 left, GPU2 right, 120fps limit, as you can see dropping to 500/600mhz on the cores when only doing 68fps.

yes shanks, turned off power saving in global tab, restarted, also checked ulps was disabled in regedit. FPS limit set to 120fps, look where I've put the dotted line. Both cores dropping to 500/600ish, and only 68fps. It's nowhere near the fps limit.

ULPS doesn't need to be disabled anymore mate that was 7000 series bug latest GPUs are not effected buy ULPS.
Not saying that's the issue just pointing out.

The core clocks are meant to fluctuate like that anyway depending on gpu load. Mine is like that and I haven't noticed any issue.
Your MSI AB pic is too zoomed out to see clearly, but what are you experiencing in which game that is a problem?

Why are my clocks not at maximum though if I'm not at my fps limit of 120fps? Why do they drop to 500mhz/600mhz on the core when in only sat at 60fps? If I've set 120fps then my cores should be working their ass off to get me to 120fps. I've never had any old gpu do this, my 7950 crossfire never did this.

I can understand them throttling if I'm sat at 120fps limit, but not when I'm down around half that.

These 16.3s with "power efficiency" off appear to have fixed the clock dropping issues on my single 380. Previously it was dropping from 1010 to 500-600 and giving me 25-30FPS in GTA V. It's still dropping a miniscule amount between 950-1000 but I'm pushing a constant 60FPS in game so I'm happy. :)

edit: Just tried with "power efficiency" on (default) and it's dropping to 800-850 which isn't as bad as previous sets meaning frame rates are higher but it's nowhere near smooth. Although this "power saving" seems to be less aggressive than previous drivers, it's still ultimately pointless.

Have i got lost in a lot of smoke, mirrors and distraction?

So in the world of AMD since Crimson, the 300 and Fury series* have a feature for power efficiency that results in unplayable gameplay? Rendering the card(s) pretty pointless considering what they are built for. That's is seriously AMD's take on power efficiency make games unplayable but heck the card is now power efficient.

Is anyone buying this?

*yes Shank's we all get it your 200 series card(s) works perfectly and you don't have problems for the 500th time.

Which game are you trying to run at 120 fps? If it's a demanding game the gpu's or cpu may be causing a bottleneck.

Resolved Issues:
Core clocks may not maintain sustained clock speeds resulting in choppy performance and or screen corruption (Fixed with new Power Efficiency feature toggled to off).
Gears of War Ultimate Edition - Random freezes may be experienced during gameplay
Ashes of the Singularity 2.0 Benchmark now supports DirectFlip.
XCOM 2 flickering textures may be experienced at various game locations
Rise of the Tomb Raider™ - The game may randomly crash on launch if Tessellation is enabled

Known Issues:
A few game titles may fail to launch or crash if the Gaming Evolved overlay is enabled. A temporary workaround is to disable the AMD Gaming Evolved "In Game Overlay"
Installing via command line may not work for some users. As a workaround please use the default GUI installer.
League of Legends may experience some graphical corruption on characters death animation in AMD Crossfire™ mode.
Rift may experience a hang when playing with FRTC and V-Sync enabled. As a work around users are suggested to disable V-Sync.
Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 may experience some flickering in AMD Crossfire™ mode.
Rise of the Tomb Raider may experience graphical corruption in some cinematics.
The Division may experience flickering in AMD Crossfire™ mode.
Star Wars Battlefront users may experience flicker in AMD Crossfire™ mode on battle and tutorial loading screens.
Star Wars Battlefront users may experience ground texture issues in certain locations on Survival Hoth missions.

I am sorry matt. But i just read you can finally go to sleep ?

wtf i have 1100 euros of AMD graphics cards but i cannot play the division the way i want too.. i run a 4k monitor with 2 of your high end cards AMD fury x''s

They are brilliant but my god do you guys let them down... i used to run 2x 7990's before the rig i have (the same rig you guys ran in the BF4 E3 demo shame you didn't support the hardware you showed off.)

Sort the bloody drivers out make drivers support crossfire from day one. yes i know game devs won't show you details if they are in bed with nvidia so why not just say so...

3 days now since the division came out and the latest driver tells me there might me some flickering in crossfire ? im sorry thats just rude ffs

please please please i want to see this running at 4k ultra but i cant because of game/driivers

rage over good night

Every game mate, I've got a 144hz freesync monitor so don't use any v sync, I just set a 120fps limit and let my games run as fast as possible up to that limit.

And neither, not once on any game have I seen either my msiab cpu graph or gpu graph usage stuck at 100%. There is no bottleneck.

The smaller drops are because of vsync. Try turn it off, then it should run at full speed.

The latest drivers seem to have much better performance overall in the 2 games I tested, Witcher 3 and AC:Syndicate. W3 is is now totally smooth with no stutter when loading in areas and AC:S does not drop below 45 fps where it used to go down to 35 fps and runs at a locked 60fps if MSAA x2 is disabled.

Fantastic work.

A bit off topic, but I used a DVI - HDMI converter on one of my 290x DVI ports to connect my TV to my PC as a 2nd monitor... And it has sound???

What kind of witchcraft is that?

i had a quick test of the drivers before i came to work and now in Diablo 3 the core clock doesn't go below 930mhz so from that its a vast improvement over it dropping to 300\500mhz.

i haven't had chance to play any games so will have a check tonight.
