The AMD Driver Thread

I get the feeling that this is an issue with Crossfire and Freesync combo matt. I've seen plenty of ppl saying this new power saving feature is working much better, but these have all been on single card setups. Don't think I've seen one person so far saying anything about crossfire and this new driver and the clocks dropping yet.

Could be Tony, I'm keeping an open mind.

Unfortunately one of my Fury X cards died, so i can't test FreeSync CrossFire on my system. I'm not seeing any fluctuation with one Fury X and Freesync enabled.

use detach on hardware monitor so you can shape it to be bigger to fit more stuff in it.

yep i know that, thanks for the headsup though, just forgot to do it on that last one.

Here's something very interesting, turned off the frame limit in MSIAB, now did the same test as before. Better fps, solid core clocks, more steady gpus usage, no spikes etc. Interesting. Going to retest turning MSIAB frame limit back at 120fps.

You can run I7-3770k fine if you are aiming 60fps gaming. But it doesn't have strenght to drive games up to 120 fps you aim, not constantly atleast. I know this aswell as I have that very same cpu. And I'm running only single Fury-X, and I'm getting cpu bound very often in various scenes.

I was suprised how fast my CPU ran out of steam when i knocked my graphics settings down to try and get a high FPS, and thats at 4.9.

Sweet tbh mate I stopped using msi afterburner along time ago.
For me I just use steam overlay for fps information and if I want a more detailed information I'll run hwinfo64 while playing a game..
AMDs FRTC is much better I find also

No need for MSI AB to lock FPS if you use FRTC. This could explain the issue and why i was unable to reproduce it. Limiting FPS artificially by third party software could trick the powerplay algorithm into lowering the core clock.

Generally I use RT to lock fps to 60 or 59 FPS as I always use vsync in games (can't stand screen tearing and without it, games stutter more for me) and for some reason find it to make the game a lot smoother and with less input lag on occasions.

Is there any benefit to using FRTC over MSI in my case?

I think FRTC is better it's driver side.

Anyone else finding that Radeon Settings no longer detects installed games?

All my games were present in 16.2.1, but now all it detects is Far Cry 4 (Uplay) and Grand Theft Auto V (Steam) and the icons for both games are missing. The Scan button is ineffective.

I've tried un-installing, using the AMD cleanup tool and re-installing and that had no effect, might try DDU next.

Edit: Tried 16.2.1 Again and all my games show up:

Played a few more games, fallout 4, mad max, black desert online, the division.....cores all dropping using FRTC and not RT frame limit. I think it's completely dependant on each game and how good the driver profile is. I'm just going to try and look the other way and forget about it. It's not like it's affecting my game, it's just one of those annoying things you would like to get to the bottom of. Will turn off the overlays and just try to enjoy the games instead of getting hung up on the numbers.

I'm now hoping for The Division crossfire to be fixed via a hotfix drop sooner rather than later. I'm going to hang off from playing it to much, I wanna crank this puppy to ultra and have a cracking experience.

By the time that happens, tess and squeeze will be maxed out with yellow guns and equipment!!! :D :p

When you run in cpu wall in performance, your cores will go down to keep higher usage. As there is literally no reason to keep them running at max speed.

I have the same issue with these new drivers, only game that shows up is GTA V and it's got the same blue icon as yours.

Try manual add them

I have found the thing to be completely messed up, never detects all my games and even has profiles for games that I no longer have installed...

Wish I have this bug.
I don't need profiles for all games, and most times auto-profiles doesn't work, so I need to delete profile, then add it manually.
Also it takes time to find game with big list of profiles, when only few of my games require profiles.
And worst of all when some games stuck to steamapp run, even if I add .exe file directly.
Because profile for such games doesn't apply at all. Exe method work allways, except when Radeon Software doesn't want to add game as .exe

Drivers seem to be working ok for me, the profiles have vanished but all my games seem to be working as normal, just set a global overclock for now untill they come back. :)

Yes, same problem. I had to add all my games manually. Also, had a full system freeze today after exiting GTA 5, had to hard reboot. Event viewer said amdkmdap stopped responding.

Good work on the power efficiency workaround, though. This fixes 95% of the problems I was having in the affected games (my uncertainty may be due to one of the games not using triple buffering and not the workaround).

GTA 5 still has stutter and frame drop problems unless I toggle Vsync off and then on again, but this was the case with Catalyst as well, not sure why I have this bug but not related to Crimson so am not counting this in the above statement.
