The AMD Driver Thread

The last CoD is: better than before for sure, good ideas but a technical mess as always... developer fault

even the intro lag wasn't fixed, they don't test their games properly... they do a console port and... nevermind... :D until you don't buy at day one anymore
I think that even DX12 won't be a panacea for this kind of people... a lot of inaccuracies that they leave abandoned to themselves

It's a shame, i used to really enjoy the older COD games. Thinking back to the Treyarch Black Ops 1 & 2 versions, they always performed wonderfully without issue.

Cod 1 and 2 were great games and to an extent the first Modern Warefare. It's all down hill after that. They need to get back to basics and forget all the stupid perks and pointless weapons. The games were much better when all you had was a main weapon, pistol and grenade. Cod 3 was the first console version which never made it to PC but was the start of the decline. The first Cod's ran at over 100fps on a single card easy and the graphics were really nice for the time as well.

I don't even need this new driver as the omega's run great but for some reason all this waiting has made me really want it.

Guess you've never tried running a COD game across three screens. :shudder: Someone always comes up with a fix, but just astounds me that the developers never bothered to add in something that someone with no access to the source code is able to add in a few hours from his bedroom (probably).

Always enjoyed the COD games (I joined the series at COD4:MW and left after Ghosts), but each one felt like they were trying to penalise PC players to me more with each game - no multi-screen, often poor multi-GPU performance, more console-esque features. Eventually felt like one of those relationships where you love the girl, but you know the feeling isn't mutual anymore and you know you need to leave. :(

I quite agree on this, it's the same with Battlefield with battlepacks and stupid weapons. Guess they need to keep the kiddies happy.

So before AMD made the switch the drivers where monthly and people where complaining that not much was being delivered every month, so AMD switched to spending more time on the drivers and releasing bigger more quality updates.

However since this change, the latest drivers seem to be beta drivers more often than not and the time between drivers is now bordering on too long. It's been almost 3 months since a driver update?

This is TOO long AMD. You've got the balance wrong.

It's got to be regular enough to deliver as and when games demand, but long enough for you to deliver quality updates.

Agree, needs to be on par with new game releases. AMD starting to get a better rep for drivers and then they do this.

hi AMDmatt

Im having problems with my new MSI Gaming 8gb 290x's in crossfire,

on Msi afterburner i can't control both fan speeds, the second gpu always remains on 20% fan speed and my top gpu reaches 89 degrees:eek:

in tomb raider crossfire wont work the second gpu remains on 300mhz
Far cry 4, similar problem but i dont think this game has a cf profile yet?

Also both gpu's have elpida memory, will this hinder anything? i was kind of thinking since these are the gaming series it should have atleast hynix :/

Have you unlocked overdrive in CCC prior to fiddling with afterburner? It's possible that you have conflicting settings. If you intend to use afterburner you should leave CCC overdrive locked.

Select restore defaults like in the screenshot below.

KnmtAKs.jpg

Restart, then fire up afterburner and see if you can manually change the fan speed to 100% and see if it turns up both cards fans.

Are you running games in Full Screen Mode/Exclusive Full Screen mode, because Crossfire does not work in Windowed mode?

Regarding Farcry 4 use my settings below.

We had a profile ready for launch, but unfortunately we've been unable to enable it due to issues with the game. Below is taken from the release notes of 14.1.2.

"The AMD CrossFire™ profile for Far Cry 4 is currently disabled in this driver while AMD works with Ubisoft to investigate an issue where AMD CrossFire™ configurations are not performing as intended. An update is expected on this issue in the near future through an updated game patch or an AMD driver posting."

Since this there have been multiple updates to the game and we're now at a stage where we can enable it in our next driver.

Add the Farcry4.exe to CCC, then scroll down and select AFR friendly and click apply.

Do you not use in game SMAA/MSAA as there is a bug with the game that prevents SMAA/MSAA from working correctly.

did u like it?
i not played it in a while now, i do plan on going back to it tho!
i got so many to catch up on now :(

Only just started so I'll let you know.

I've just discovered the Dying Light manager which allows you to tweak settings so I'm currently playing with that and trying to turn off all the horrid image blurring that this game suffers from. Hurts my eyes!

I love Dead Island though, so I'll expect I'll like this.

Forgot to ask Mei, do you like it?

Ah yeah and that horrendous chromatic aberration and film grain. I'll have to give those profiles a go next week if the new beta isn't out already, because no xfire was actually ruining the game for me. Drops to 40fps on a single 290 were regular at 1440p

Try them, worked nicely for me at 1440P. :)

I tried what you told me to but that didnt work, i just opened my case up and noticed the fans on the second gpu arent even spinning, im going to take it out to check if theirs a wire that came off somewhere

or is this a software problem
