The AMD Driver Thread

That's not the reason YB2. I don't use any dynamic settings in the menu. I have manually turned all the dynamic options off and manually bumped everything to Ultra or the highest possible setting. So the game isn't cleverly adjusting to keep 60fps, the game is just totally maxed out on custom settings.

It's just a very solid well optimised game.

You're right.. I dl'd it last night and it does run pretty friggin good :D without the dynamic crap! WOO!

Getting a bit annoyed with Crimson's dealings with Eyefinity now. I really thought it would get better once the official release was out of the door, but as far as I can tell nothing's changed and it's still exactly the same as it was on day 1. I appreciate my setup is a little unusual, but I can't believe this would take an engineer long to fix if one was allocated to it.

I have four monitors attached to my PC - three across with one on top. In normal use, they're configured as four separate monitors, when I game I have them set with the 3 in an Eyefinity group and the fourth still as a separate monitor for monitoring, emails, etc.

If I have all four attached to my GPU, Crimson gives me the option of using the Quick Setup but then assigns all four into one Eyefinity group. I need to use the Additional Settings option to set just 3 in a group (as I want it). Some games over the years have had issues when I have all 4 monitors on the GPU but only 3 involved in running the game - Alien Isolation wouldn't launch and LA Noir couldn't get the aspect ratio right in game.

If I have 3 attached to the GPU, and the fourth onto my Intel onboard, then Crimson tells me I cannot use the Quick Setup and I must use the Additional Settings.

If I use the Additional Settings to set and disable my Eyefinity group, I cannot then set the launch options for games to automatically use Eyefinity for that game. I would love to be able to do this, as currently I need to go into Additional Settings (which I now have pinned to my Taskbar rather than go through Crimson each time), enable Eyefinity, launch the game, then go back into Additional Settings after the game to disable it.

I have no problem initially setting Eyefinity how I want it using Additional Settings, but then why can't Crimson remember this and use this as the default for the Quick Setup? If this isn't possible, can Crimson be set to only be concerned with the monitors attached to the GPU rather than be confused by those on the onboard Intel - when it can't control or affect this monitor anyway!

I have loved Eyefinity since I moved to it 6/7 years ago, but lately it's just felt a little forgotten and neglected. :(

I've filled in a feedback report but just needed to vent here too, and see if anyone else has run into this and found anything I've missed to help with the situation.

Does this happen on older drivers? Your GPU might be damaged. A Black screen with audio looping? means GPU lost power.

Nope, they already know about the problem, its all over the place on amd forums, they say to install 15.11.1 lol.

So yeah my gpu is fine.

As a quick aside, mate, your signature is too long - it's only allowed to be four lines of text (https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/faq.php?faq=vb_board_usage#faq_vb_memberlist_how). Might be worth changing before a mod does it for you. :)

Hmmm?? ok? :P

But is it though? have you rolled back to this driver for testing?

Like I said a black screen isn't a driver issue. Driver stopped responding is also 9/10 another issue. People auto think its driver issue because its crashed.

For example the two biggest reasons a driver might crash is Bad RAM and Overclocking not stable.

A black screen is a completely different issue, it means the GPU has lost power, could be damaged GPU or PSU failing to keep its power.

Already make a reddit post, and ppl have the same problem
Black screen and they still can hear the audio, so its not only me for sure.
Its happening on rust/dark souls 2, i can play csgo just fine.

My PSU is brand new (1 month) XFX 550 made by seasonic.

Edit: Look all those posts.

Fair enough, Have you tried though going back to the older driver for testing?

When the **** is this poxy black screen on boot issue going to get sorted?

Takes the ****

Im still having to run 15.11's and no driver since has fixed the problem. As soon at Nvidia release the 1080ti im soooo there.

Every time i boot my pc nowadays, which sadly isnt often, all i keep getting faced with is driver issues.

Absolute joke.

Ok, so i just had a read up on my "little" issue with blackscreens and i'd imagine its common knowledge on here.

It seems the new crimson drivers lower the voltage to your card on startup which is probably why its black screening. The more concerning thing i read was that because AMD Overdrive doesnt offer voltage control its unlikely to get fixed in a driver update as its an unofficial feature.

I actually need to give my card abit more juice at its stock clocks otherwise i get flickering, maybe a card fault but its always been like that. I only need to apply about +33 to the core on Afterburner to keep it stable but obviously without them supporting it and crimson over writing boot volts there doesnt seem any way around this?

If that is indeed the case my card is pretty much scrap. A lot of games always want the newest drivers and if i cant even install them running at stock.... Well.

Surely it's a faulty card if it won't boot at stock clocks and should be RMA'd?

An unsupported and unofficial workaround has stopped working after an update, which is not unexpected.

Do you overclock with voltage? I only have this issue if I forget to reset afterburner before shutting down.

For some reason Crimson is holding onto the overclocks and when I start up crimson kicks in first and boosts my clocks that are unstable on stock voltage and I get a black screen.

EDIT*

Just seen your follow up post. I see your running at stock. Looks like you will need to read up on editing your cards BIOS so the extra voltage is applied that way. I must admit I have been tempted to as I run +44mv for my 24/7 clocks and since crimson I have to put it on and take it off manually every time I shutdown and restart

Yeah the safest way to adjust voltage is through bios editing. Trixx works ok but ya have to remember to reset to stock speeds before you shutdown/restart like finners says.

The blackscreen issues started with Win10, it wasnt all AMDs fault. When win10 came out there was about half a dozen things causing blackscreen, i initially just went back to win7 as it solved it but when i heard dx12 only worked in in10 i reinstalled it and worked my way through finding solutions for all the blackscreens. Took a while but i got there in the end, havent had a blackscreen for months.

Sapphire apparently have a bios to fix that, that adds an extra 25mv to it to solve the issue.

https://www.sapphireforum.com/showthread.php?33437-R9-290-Black-Screen-Fix!!!

But you have to get it by requesting from Sapphire.

Not sure if they applied it to later cards by default or if the issue only effects some cards, but I've never had to add extra voltage to my vapor-x with 3rd party stuff.

So maybe worth contacting sapphire?
