The AMD Driver Thread

Sadly, as a 295X2 owner, it's another let down for me. I'd cut them a bit of slack if it was just lacking a Crossfire profile, but the performance of a 290X (what I effectively am left with) is ****. A GTX970 which is usually about the same *hoses* the 290X on Doom.

This the straw that breaks the camel's back for me. I got my 295X2 in Oct 2014 and Crossfire support since then has been abysmal by both developers and AMD. Combine that with some games with AMD performance issues at launch and the most expensive component I ever bought is also the most disappointing.

I may well return to AMD in the future but for now I'll be buying the predictable option of a GTX1080.
...and not a 1070?

I think we all need to accept that mgpu is never going to be anywhere near as good as it should be and we should just be thankful that we are finally starting to get gpu's with the grunt to make it so we don't need to go mgpu anymore.

If I was on a multi card set up now and wanted to move to a single card the only sensible move would be to a 1070 or 1080. Until AMD offer something with more grunt than the current crop has Nvidia is the smart move.

I'm appalled by that. He's either running a early Vulcan build and should therefore say so, or he's straight up lying.

Either way, he knows his customers with a 295X2 can't do 4K without it being a slideshow right now.

All he's done is make me more determined. I'll stop complaining on this thread now as that's not what it's for, but that has really wound me up.

you do know there isn't sli or crossfire for the game yet; most likely won't be until vulkan patch.....if ever; that's not down to AMD that's down to ID

@AMDMatt

Hey do u know if there isnt gona be any driver profile or optimization made for the DayZ Standalone game now that DX11 has been implemented into the game? Framerates are really good now but there is some stuttering now and again, can this be sorted at driver level? Lead Producer Brian Hicks said he was going to be working with AMD and Nvidia now its DX11.

Any news on this please mate? :)

No news but yeah we'll be working with them.

Bashing one out and updating his twitter followers on how many he lost that week! ;)

I think he has got a house but still benching etc, I'm sure he will pop his head in some time soon.

Fllwers is an automated tweet. :D

Edit: I have fixed my issue, by changing the Arma3.cfg file, so that screen refresh is set to 90Hz and not 60Hz. (My 144Hz monitor has a lower 35-90Hz freesync range in addition to the 56-144Hz)

Anyone here running Arma 3 with a 144Hz monitor? (I am using Crimson beta 16.5.1 atm)

I have an issue, and I am unable to fix it. It sort of looks like Arma 3 wants to run the game at 60 fps, even though everything is set up for either 90Hz or 144Hz. It is as if there is some limit in some Arma 3 config file perhpas.

EDIT: Aah, I found an entry for refresh rate in the Arma 3 config file "Arma3.cfg". It was set to "refresh=60;".

I thought I had my random crashing/freezing/rebooting problem sorted when I updated the drivers, disabled ULPC and enabled FRTC. It's more stable than it was but it's still a complete lottery as to whether it will run a game or just just freeze the system. Does anyone have any suggestions about what else I can adjust to try and regain stability? The card is a Sapphire R9 295 x2. It's been absolutely fine for about 18 months, and then last Monday it started going mental after I installed MoH Pacific Assault.

I would look into what libraries MoH Pacific Assault installs might be some sort of conflict in that regard. On top of that i would also uninstall the display driver and then clean with DDU before restarting and installing it again.

Yeah I've tried that. I ended up completely formatting and reinstalling windows 8.1. I also tried with Windows 10. I've checked the power rail voltage and it's steady as a rock. I've swapped out the RAM and also tried another PCI-e slot. I've tried drivers 15.7 right up to the latest ones. Its an absolute mystery and impossible to predict. It might run for an hour or two minutes before crashing. Last night it ran Doom on ultra absolutely flawlessly for two hours. Today its been terrible. I love this card, but it's bloody temperamental.

So finally installed DOOM tonight and the 16.5.2 driver... gotta admit the game looks and runs pretty flawlessly. Got in to the advanced settings and turned everything to ultra (not nightmare) except dumb things like chome ab and motion blur. no film grain and I only use smaa 1x. Don't need xfire it seems :)

Anyone having problems running DOOM on a 390X?

I have to start my game around 5-6 times until I get past the intros, it just crashes to desktop otherwise. Once I'm in game, longest I've lasted without crashing to desktop is around 4 minutes.

Got the latest drivers installed etc, every other game I have runs fine.
