The AMD Driver Thread

So finally installed DOOM tonight and the 16.5.2 driver... gotta admit the game looks and runs pretty flawlessly. Got in to the advanced settings and turned everything to ultra (not nightmare) except dumb things like chome ab and motion blur. no film grain and I only use smaa 1x. Don't need xfire it seems :)

My 390X runs Doom at 20-30FPS at 1440P, medium to high settings. That's when it's not crashing, longest I've lasted ingame is around 4-5 minutes.

Big issues on the 390 series with Doom it seems, bah.

It seems that in Doom Hawaii and Grenada are broken at the moment giving lower performance than a 380x and 960.
I'm sure it's being worked on though.
Put a ticket in about it (It can't hurt for them to see more fix requests).

Having said that these disagree

We are clearly placing lower than expected though.
Wasn't everyone raving about AMD's performance advantage with the Beta?
What happened?

Yeh I've made a ticket already. I was expecting it to be fixed today at the lastest, since Hawaii cards are among AMD's most numerous out there. Completely unplayable, worst AAA game experience I've ever had PC gaming.

We hope to have a fix soon for the lower than expected performance on some GPUs.

It runs very well on the Fury X at 4K.

Thanks for the response. Do you know if this fix will include stopping the game from crashing?

In additional to the terrible performance, I had to launch Doom many times before I can get past the intro screens. Once I'm ingame, I crash to desktop within 5 minutes usually.

Tbh they need to do it quick as with a launch of cards coming from both sides this is very poor timing on a AAA game. Can you answer how Vulkan performs or is that classified.

+1 - Doom is such a huge game and to have it not playable for many people on Hawaii/Grenada cards on launch is not acceptable.

Not sure.

We had our Doom driver out before the game released and we'll have a fix out for this soon.

I can't talk about Vulkan performance.

What kind of FPS are you calling 'excellent'? Also have you got any crashes? Are you on W10?

All the benchmarks I've seen for Hawaii have shown terrible performance:

If it's the crash to desktop without any errors then yes had this twice. Not an AMD problem though because even nvidia users reporting something in the steam fourm thread.

Excellent fps for me is ranging from 60-80fps with odd drops into 50s depending what's happening.

@1080p I can run ultra and keep fps in the 70-100 with odd drops into 60s.
Butvi choose 1440p @high looks and runs excellent. Am just not seeing or getting these poor performance issues people going on about, also running latest version of Windows 10 drivers etc all upto date.

Edit
BTW that benchmark results is 1440p ultra

Is freesync DirectX only? Doom is behaving... strangely. With v-sync in just ignores freesync and locks at 60 or (more likely) 20 or 30 fps. Without freesync it ignores the framecap I set in Radeon Settings, so I can't really tell.

I'm also stuck running rock bottom settings just to be in a position to face these problems.

Working here, vsync off, zero screen tear. Do you see screen tear?

Radeon settings don't work for me either in this title, not sure if that is OpenGL issue with it.

Yeh it says 1440P ultra at the top of the picutre, as we're both running 1440P I thought it was the most relevant one to link.
