The AMD Driver Thread

@amd Matt

Definitely a bug with latest driver version regarding having Freesync enabled and running the screen at a very high hz, (possibly only occurring on crossfire setup with Freesync) - subtle flickering on the screen, my eyes pick it up for sure. Turn off Freesync and the flickering stops.

It seems to appear after playing a game, once you return to the desktop the flickering starts. To stop it you can either disable Freesync and then can re-enable or change the monitor hz rate. Maybe this is crossfire and Freesync related as Shanks said he doesn't get it.

Was hoping the 480 was gona be good for streaming/recording too.. reason i started this thread here..

AMD Polaris HEVC Encode/Decode, is this 'really' good for Streamers?

Would sway my decision on getting a 480.

The thing is media SDK (on amd site)
is not updated since 2015, so how it will support the new 480 hardware features?

Just wondering...

AMDs Media SDK is quite old in terms of software - the SDK doesn't even support the YUV444 format that is one of the main selling points for VCE 3.0. h265/HEVC is also missing.

@AMD_Matt have anything to add on this?

I can't change my windows resolution with these drivers, haven't rolled back yet to confirm but I go into that screen quite often to enable a second monitor so noticed it straight away

O Ok.. Any idea what I will gain changing to the native support? I already seeing no performance hit and my settings add very good IQ and file size 15min recording less than 2GB

Maybe it'd be more obvious with Streaming. Both these issues and the CPU usage issue I was saying about?

I was using the old version of OBS though, so maybe that was it.

As for Handbrake getting it, that's good, but generally these things give worse quality (I think I saw somewhere you need to set the quality around 500kbps higher when using the GPU/iGPU for encoding.

I do get it Tony, I did post back in this thread. I sent a report and also posted on forum.

Was noticing this too! I've had a few issues on the latest driver, have since rolled back to 16.7.1 and all is well

16.7.3 for me is absolutely incredible .... I'm not sure whats changed between the last driver using DDU & a new install of MSI afterbuner, but I'm finding it light years ahead of what I was experiencing previously .. I also get this flickering monitor for FreeSync + CrossFireX but I'm finding it EXTREMELY subtle ...

overall game performance is top notch!! good work going on back at AMD ... !!!

Yeah game performance is very nice.

Can someone tell me how to tell what version I'm on?

Because if I go into AMD Settings, I can see the Radeon version is 16.5.2... Now I've applied the automatically offered update a number of times recently, even last week I believe...?

I'd do a full uninstall and reinstall from the web site - the auto thing has never worked too great for me

Giz

I might just do that when this thing about 16.7.3 has calmed down...

But I'd still like to double check when version I've got, because surely 16.5.2 implies I've not updated for ages?!
