The AMD Driver Thread

Since I updated to 16.7.3 everytime I restart my PC I get a black screen. PC boots up like normal but I've got to switch my monitor off and back on again to get an image.

Anyone else having this issue?

If I am still on 16.5.2, so none of the automatic updates (including the one just a week or so ago) have updated my drivers, then I'm wondering if that ties into my Windows 10 upgrade? ie: Since that upgrade the auto updates have all failed!?

Well, I'm not going to do an uninstall/fresh install of the drivers until I hear all these current drvier problems are resolved.

Got an interesting issue.

With my 290x at 1150/1450 I've got no issues at all on my 1080p monitor. I just got a 4K monitor and I get extremely bad flickering (both with and without freesync being enabled). The screen literally goes black for seconds at a time while I'm gaming (no issues outside of games).

This doesn't seem as bad when the GPU isn't overclocked, but I don't understand how this can be? It is a stable OC that I've been using for a while now.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Can anyone say if it's more likely a monitor or a driver fault?

Thanks in advance.

So is this as black and white as it looks? And none of my auto updates for months and months have worked?

I usually install manually anyway but I think the auto updates were broken in the older builds. The last 3-4 updates did notify but sometimes you have to click the 'check for updates' button for it to show up.

<-- That's even more out of date?

I been using auto update fine apart from this release it wouldn't update, I had to uninstall and the install latest version.

Well, I've always used the auto update (even just a week or two ago)... And seemingly it's left me months out of date!?

When I know the latest driver is safe and not at risk of frying my OS (16.7.3???), I'll uninstall and reinstall the AMD drivers completely.

I find Wattman to be generally very temperamental. While it can manage a little bit of customisation and control I find that it either:
a. crashes on entry (so amd settings loads up nicely, but clicking wattman causes it to crash)
b. there is a lot of stuttering on the wattman interface

This with new drivers after using DDU and an RX480. Very frustrating.

Agree with all your points, wattman is a bugger piece if software.

You can also add in fan controls that when set at 1 temp, kick in 13 degrees higher.

Is there a place to report bugs on it?

Trying out my RX480 Nitro for the first time and have to say... I'm impressed. Very nice card good performance not too noisy (when the fans aren't going nuts). Gibbo was right Sapphire got this one spot on.

But is anyone else having issues with 16.7.3 and the fans suddenly hitting 100% for no apparent reason after a few minutes? Removed it gonna try out 16.7.2

edit: ok just been trying out the 16.7.2 and there are still fan issues GPU-Z is reporting its stuck at 15% fan speed until the temps hit 82c and then the fans suddenly hit 62% and stayed there even when the temp dropped back down to a constant 36c

took about 5-10 minutes and then dropped down to 34% speed

edit2: 16.7.1 looks to be doing ok!

Its definitely having issues with glitchy fan profiles, seems to be a driver issue. Trouble seems to be severe delays in responding to temperature changes on the GPU. Hopefully driver updates will sort this out soon

I'm actually getting put off buying a RX 480 due to the reports of noisy fans. My R9 380 is extremely quiet and I dont want to regret my purchasing decision. Maybe the GTX 1060 will be better for me despite have a freesync monitor.

Fans are quiet when when its not glitching out, at least on the Nitro. Did some tests gaming on DX9 (Skyrim) with GPUz

GPU: 100% usage
temp: 73c
fan: 51%
noise: pretty quiet
