The AMD Driver Thread

I've tried overclocking my GPU for the first time in a while (and first time using AMD settings not CCC) and I see that the GPU core clock slider is now a percentage... what!? is there a way to get it back to MHz?

It's been that way for me since I got my 290s at launch (even in CCC). I once didn't have Afterburner installed and ended up having to fire up Windows Calculator to work out what I wanted! :D

Hmm which one do you think it will be

I'm going with Magenta or Carmine...which are not here in that list :p

Seems I been using Freesync wrong ??

Just found a post by Robert from AMD... Now I just normally disable Vsync, set FRTC to 140fps and be done with it.
I notice screen tear is removed and freesync is obviously working..
But everything I have done Rob is saying is wrong??

AMD need to release this info is its more known!! I thought FRTC was added to AMD driver mainly for Freesync LOL

Do not use any sort of frame capping with FreeSync. The frame time analysis algorithms that govern FreeSync, FRTC or other methods will conflict and break both solutions. It's unnecessary. Here's why:
The only time you'd want to turn off vsync with FreeSync is if the app's FPS can go way above your monitor's max refresh and you want the lowest possible input latency at the expense of a little tearing at high framerates. FRTC is the antithesis of this, so it doesn't make sense to use FRTC in this case.
If you're not trying to get the lowest possible input latency, or the app's FPS stays inside your monitor's DRR window on the regular, then leaving vsync enabled will cap your framerate anyways. FRTC is redundant.
FRTC is for people with regular ol' monitors who are playing low-demand games running in the hundreds of FPS, which just burns power and runs the fan faster than necessary.

FRTC is handy if Vsync is not working or is buggy, as it can be in some games. If Vsnc works well then i just use FreeSync and Vsync together, otherwise I'll use FRTC to cap my FPS at 1 below the max FreeSync range.

So for GTA V I can use rivatuner at 143 fps cap and it has the same effect as your mentioning??? 144hz freesync display.

Vsync works well in GTA v so I'd just use that. I've had a mixed experience using Rivatuner for FPS caps, i find sometimes it interferes with FreeSync and causes tearing. There is little need for Rivatuner when you have FRTC.

I've had no negative experiences using FRTC with FreeSync, so i disagree with Roberts comment on this. Perhaps he knows a technical reason why which i am not aware of but based on feel, i notice no negatives to using FreeSync+FRTC vs FreeeSync+Vsync.

For what it's worth i've been using FRTC and Freesync since i got my new monitor a month ago. No issues at all. I cap the frames at 100 since my screens Freesync range tops out at 75Hz

Amd should release an official document for freesync. They seems to be a lot of miss information around this.

From my testing I don't notice any difference between having Freesync + FRTC vs Freesync + vsync.

I'll after test more at the lower end though. What is best when I drop below 40fps

Is it bad that I dont know what FRTC is, I use freesync with vsync on, don't know if its right, but I've never had an issue with it.
My monitor tells me freesync is on, so it must be ok lol It's only a 60hz monitor anyway.

FRTC is framerate target control. It's built into the AMD drivers you simply create a game profile and set the max FPS you want that game to run at.
