The AMD Driver Thread

The only thing I enable on that screen is frame rate target control and set it to my monitor's maximum refresh.

Why not?

The only changes I do is I put fluid motion on in the video's section (something Humbug once mentioned) plus gpu scaling and freesync on in the display section.

One to remember: You need Open GL triple buffering: On if you ever plan to play Rage again.

I never change anything on that screen

Cool, thanks, just was curious to see what others used.

That's probably why you have so many issues, Tomb raider got patched & updated recently, You said you're only using one card most of the time so you should try the latest drivers, I have the same gpu and a 3440x1440 freesync monitor and it's running like a champ (apart from the need to drop the textures from very high to high) with a few tweaks to keep framerates respectable.

Everything ive got and play, runs fine on these, even Tombi did, so god knows why it wont work now, ive even gone back through the patches one by one testing, and theres now no change, its still ******, when it shouldn't be, as ive changed absolutely nothing.

Bump :p

Does everyone just stick with default settings then?

I don't, i use these for everything :-

Do you notice much performance hit Tony?

Any particular reason you have surface format optimisation and shader cache off loads? I thought these were suppose to help with performance with no hit on IQ?

Ive not upgraded for months, im still on the 16.3 hotfixes, so don't have a clue why Tombi has ****** up in Xfire, when it was working fine last time i played it on these.

The problem is your opinion is outdated due to missing out on all the updates. As a crossfire user you should be jumping on every possible update to gain support. A simple game patch could change the game ruining multi gpu. I am in no way endorsing AMD's multi gpu support as I don't think it's any where near good enough. With you still on 16.3 your just asking for trouble. Even using a single card it's daft not to gain 7 months of performance upgrades/bug fixes going to 16.10.2 which so far seem to be good.

lol not with AF mate, you should know that by now, if there is then it's absolutely minimal.

Here's how I set mine up.

Yeah that is usually the case although for some games, the impact can be quite bad, iirc, rise of the tomb raider ran rather horribly at anything above 8x :( Although given how buggy that POS was (at least for me anyway), can't say I'm surprised :p

just out of curiousity.. have you guys ever used the report feature in catalyst to report errors? If yes, do you expect to hear a reply back from support?

Its not daft really, as i don't play the latest games, all the game i play, work fine on these 16.3s, and run great, ive got no issues with them at all, as the saying goes, if it aint broke....., i used to update them religiously every month, or every time a new one came out, but ive learned now, theres just no point, as i could update, and get problems.

You read it all the time, these drivers are ****, (insert game here) is ****** on these, was running great on the previous set, had no issues at all, rolling back :p

Fury has gained a good bit of performance over the past year. I do agree if it ain't broke then there is no point in trying to fix it. The thing is the new drivers have been improvements for the majority of the year or at least in my case they are. I have played a number of big releases though so have been after the extra performance and fixes.

There is always going to be people who suffer from each driver release but in the main AMD drivers have been pretty decent so far this year. Go look in the Nvidia driver thread for supposedly a superior experience lol. It's been carnage in that thread this year. On the bright side there has been no cards burning out but with Christmas coming up i won't rule it out yet.

BF1 keeps crashing for me on my MSI 480. Even after system reformat.

The performance seems all over the place. Played one round of TDM and the frame rate felt great, played the same map in the same mode later on and it just didn't feel right.

Played BF1 for a good few hours and the only bug i have is in cut scenes due to stutter. In game using Dx12 the performance is great and have not crashed once. It's been the same with my 3 mates but we are all on 290's.

Cant play BF 1 for more than 2 mins with crashing....

They is a massive thread over on the battlefield forums loads people reporting this from Nvidia and AMD
Sadly so far without a game patch nothing seems to really fix it.

Some people have had luck, locking the frame rate down to reduce the CPU spiking.
Switching from DX12 to DX11
If you pushing high resolutions like 4k or 1440p dropping down to 1080p seems to put the GPU drivers under less stress.

So far am like crashing once a night now! Before it was quite a lot more, funny I didn't crash once in the Beta. What I have done is lock the frame=rate down to 100 instead on unlimited. gametime.maxvariablefps 100 into the console

It seems to be luck as i as above and mates are all on 290's and not one crash since release.
