The AMD Driver Thread

17.1.2s now WHQL.

And they are MAGNIFICENT drivers :D even if AMD screwed up their name, because the correct one is 17.2.1. (we had the 17.1.2 few weeks back).

The Division feels much faster, the FPS is higher and holds better at heavy scenes. Also it doesn't tank the fps when Alt + tab on the desktop, nor when I have opened a browser above the application.
Previously it was getting to 11fps when I was doing that before it goes back again to 60+

Also I didn't saw FPS less than 60 at the places it was tanking all way to 50 before. In addition the VRAM consumption was stuck at 3.5-3.7GB and never went to 3.93GB as previously.
(haven't changed the graphics and I play with DX12)

In addition, in a zone was a heavy snowfall and the fps was still high and didn't tank to 48-50 as usual!

I need to try more games tomorrow.

Magnificent if you call:

Changing the default sound device to something that plays no sound - WHY ?

My system now sounds like a 747 on finals and it has stopped the GRID V2 from working properly

back to 16.11.5 until they fix this crap

I've had no issues in gaming even with the latest drivers, however I did not install ReLive since I don't really need it.

End of the day the drivers work great on my XFX 480 in all my games.

Side Note: I hope they bring back the saturation settings( using Vibrance.GUI at the moment) etc, only real thing I need.

You will only get the default sound device changing if you install the HDMI sound drivers over the previous ones. Even then it's just a 20 second change over back to your regular sound output...no big deal IMHO.

Take a look at your temps and any fan curves that are running, I am sure you will sort that in no time at all.

Not sure about Grid 2 as I havent played that one in a while.
:)

Any recommendations for a custom fan curve for my MSI GE 290?

Max temp varies between 70-80 and max fan speed about 49-60%

Thats one of the good ones, My MSI GE 290x was a 94 degree at load card, I put a ten for ten fan profile so at 60 degrees it was running at 60%, 70 degrees = 70% and so on, It still managed to hit 90 degrees though, Plus it was quite loud then. Companies such as MSI and Asus always put the emphasis on developing their coolers for GTX chips and then AMD chips get the hand me downs whether they're suitable or not.

i've got a 390X im using for a short while, and for the life of me i cant get the thing to stay at full 3D Clocks, i hate dynamic power management crap, once its in a game i want it locked in 3D Mode, how do i achieve this?

Anyone else having a problem with crossfire not working on these new drivers on RE7?

There's a profile in Crimson 17.1.1, so use that. Unfortunately the game engine is not favourable towards MGPU, despite excellent scaling with up to x2 GPUs. We decided to remove the profile in 17.1.2 as we discovered some subtle flickering issues inside the house when turning sharply. We're currently exploring if this is something that can be fixed driver side rather than game side and if it can, we'll reintroduce it in a future driver.

Any news on a fix for the freesync issues so many of us have in Ubisoft games?

I haven't experienced this issue with my Fury since they fixed it when it was a bug with the power efficiency option about a year ago. Have you got power efficiency turnd off in the Wattman game settings? If you have and it's still happening I believe Afterburner can be used to force the clocks to stay at whatever speed you choose. I might turn power efficiency on in a minute and see how it run's here.

On a side note: A few days ago I posted about the auto fan being bugged again but I haven't experienced it since installing the whql version of these drivers which is good so a thumbs up for the driver team there.

Didn't want to make a Kew thread for this and I assume it can be related to drivers. So here goes.

Got myself an rx 480 with waterblock and set a nice overclock that seems stable. Temps go of a little funny though. Seems they cause the overclocker of be unstable.

So I set my overclocker and temps go a bit high maybe high 60s. Then it crashes.

I then proceed to load my settings again and set the overclocker of again and temps are great. Don't go over 55 again are stable.

Funnily enough i have the power efficiency off in the settings panel, and Afterburner set to disable powerplay and its still bouncing around!

Odd? Try turning Afterburner off and Power efficiency on, see if that changes anything, Also both Asus and Sapphire do there own Afterburner clone so you could try those to force the clocks..

I messed around with it so much i managed to get the card stuck in 2D mode, had to reinstall drivers to get them to work again...

I would stop using MSI AB and Trixxx for clock speed/voltage adjustment. These applications have not been updated since Wattman arrived and they tend to cause more issues than they are worth. Use them for OSD and monitoring, but for everything else use Wattman.

Perhaps a silly question, but i assume you've set Power Limit in Wattman at +50%?

Matt, when Wattman will support VRAM overclocking on the Nano?
Until then MSI AB is the only app supporting it......
