The AMD Driver Thread

Yea i tested everything on and off and with/without frame limiters after reading your previous post. The games i play run smooth enough as it is though thanks to FreeSync so i guess im not missing much. Just DayZ has some crazy stuttering sometimes but thats Early Access for yer.

Ah fair, if you are constantly in the freesync zone then it won't matter, its only when I hit the frame cap of the monitor before enhanced sync did it tear all the time, really didn't want to use Vsync but even then AMD Vsync wasn't great as it still had tears because for some reason most games kept going beyond 75, enhanced sync has effectively removed this for me when the FPS went above 75, what ever algorithm AMD use for this is great, I prefer this option over adaptive sync from Nvidia since that just switches on and off Vsync.

From what I understand with enhanced sync, it doesn't work like that, it just delivers frames differently if you are at the frame cap and tries to reduce stutter when you are like 50% or less FPS for whatever reason, saying that I always try to use ingame settings to prevent me from going below 60 FPS anyways, ultra settings are pointless these days as the devs just don't bother optimising for them.

Loads asked for it when AMD asked on Reddit recently what we wanted added, surprised it happened. Especially so fast :D

They must have had it in the pipeline already. Like that new performance analysis tool, it looks like they are going after the developers with some very nice tools to make their jobs easier and help them into an AMD eco-system.

Finally OSD! No more 3rd party programs for me...that was it!

They caused many problems anyway!

Yeah, I've been wary of 3rd party tools for OSD since ATi Tray Tools got me a Punkbuster ban years back.
Particularly embarrassing for me as I was running servers for a clan at the time and it announced it on the server and the last hacker banned banner we had on our website. :(

Got it overturned in the end but with no help from the tool developer.

Rolled back to 17.7.1

I have 3 displays..

1 = DP Panel (Primary)
2 = HDMI
3 = HDMI

17.7.2 seem to use the GPU for video playback like YT and VLC Player, also they dont lower my memory clock when i turn off my primary DP panel and the DP panel stays on even though its off visually, 17.7.1 and previous drivers turn off the DP panel completely and display 2 becomes the primary display with the memory clock reduced to 300MHz. These new drivers make the memory clock stay at 1750MHz.

Shame really but then i dont see any extra perf with these and the Enhanced Sync seems to do bugger all for me in the games i play, just creates stutter so i'll stay on 17.7.1 :)

Tried 17.7.2 again with the new Afterburner Beta..

Same results as above so these drivers are a no-no for me.

Why in the hell do i want my GPU utilised for video playback? I have a very capable CPU for these things, AMD needs to learn that a GPU like a 480 is for gaming only as anyone with one of these cards will have a capable CPU for other tasks, i really cant understand why they have changed this from driver to driver, this has happened with some previous drivers before and i had to roll back. At least give me an option to turn that **** off!

And that 'Enable Clone' button is way too close to the 'X' button to close the settings window, i accidently hit that when closing the settings and when i hit 'Disable Clone' it DIDNT turn my other 2 monitors back on, had to do it in Windows Display Options.

FFS AMD fix your ****!

@AMDMatt Please try and get the above sorted, and also about DayZ, i am still getting random stuttering even with only Medium settings applied, is there any optimised driver settings for this game yet? I can do Dirt Rally, F1 2016 maxed out and hold 60fps, even GTA V with every setting on High except for Grass and Ambient Occlusion set to Normal i can still hold 60+fps. all nice smooth gameplay. Then i fire up DayZ and its a nightmare to play with stuttering. I dont even think FreeSync is working cuz if i lock the framerate to anything between 48-58 (the FreeSync range on my monitor is 48-76) and its all stuttery. I even have tearing at 60Hz unless i enable Vsync, then i get slight input lag.

I know DayZ is still Early Access but i really should be getting a better experience on an RX 480 clocked at 1400MHz core.

:(
