The AMD Driver Thread

OK running into some issues with this driver on my RX 480 4 GB nitro card, time to time if i full screen videos, i get a video freeze that so far has been varied amounts of time but the audio plays just fine. Had this happen to a few games, currently using windows 10 64 bit creator update.

Any ideas, sometimes facebook videos has green flashes, these tend to get resolves on a refresh of a webpage.

Every time my monitor goes to sleep I get an error. System has detected a link failure and cannot set requested resolution and refresh rate, yada yada yada.

Had it on my previous Radeon card also.

Does not bother me much, but annoying they are not fixing it yet.

The only thing missing in fan curves; the lack of profiles is something that is pretty high up the voting for new features!
Yep, with OSD stats and a proper customisable fan curve, I could uninstall MSI Afterburner completely. It's a pretty annoying application because it can cause random crashes in other applications without any indication. The only clue is often a reference to "d3d9.dll" in the crashed application's log file; exit Afterburner and the application starts working again!

Tried 17.7.2 again with the new Afterburner Beta..

Same results as above so these drivers are a no-no for me.

Why in the hell do i want my GPU utilised for video playback? I have a very capable CPU for these things, AMD needs to learn that a GPU like a 480 is for gaming only as anyone with one of these cards will have a capable CPU for other tasks, i really cant understand why they have changed this from driver to driver, this has happened with some previous drivers before and i had to roll back. At least give me an option to turn that **** off!:(
I'm not sure what you're referring to here. The option to use CPU or GPU for video playback should be entirely down to the video decoder being used. What does an AMD driver have to do with it?

Also GPU decoding is generally a good idea even with a powerful CPU because the CPU is then free to do other stuff, plus a GPU will generally use less power for this kind of task because it'll have hardware decode paths. If your use case makes CPU decoding a better choice then just choose that in your decoder (LAV Filters is pretty much the standard these days for anything not web based).

Is anyone else having issues with 17.7.2 drivers and Freesync?

I get the system has detected a link failure and cannot set the requested resolution and refresh rate. I've narrowed it down to Freesync as I reset my monitor (which disables Freesync) and the issue didn't occur. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling same version but no luck. It's basically limiting my Freesync range from 40-60 to 40-50. Monitor is LG34UM88.

Interesting. I have disabled Freesync from the monitor, will observe and see how it goes.

Ah sorry TNA must have missed your post! I've only just started getting this error after updating and didn't have an issue before but can't for the life of me remember which version I had installed prior.

Well I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling 17.7.2, uninstalling that and trying 17.7.1 and also uninstalling that and trying 17.6.2 but neither have working which is odd because I think the driver I had previous to 17.7.2 was 17.6.2.

I've tried changing display port slot in graphics card but issue persists.

Will try DDU tomorrow and reinstall 17.6.2 in case I'm getting conflicts as I didn't use it before.

On the latest drivers HDCP keeps breaking.
If I toggle GPU scaling on/off it fixes it however.

Basically, turn PC off, switch the option from either on to off and it'll work, or vice versa. So it doesn't consistently work.
This is causing an issue when watching Blu-rays on the PC to my 21:9.

Blu-ray playback on the PC is absolutely terrible in general, no wonder people pirate.

Yeah. Had no luck. Still have the issue.

I could just turn off screen sleep to never which would solve the problem, but we should not have to. Would get AMDMatt's attention on the matter, but I get the feeling he and AMD are super busy at the moment :p

Check Windows Display Properties to see if it has changed your monitors refresh rate.

Does it reproduce every time you wake the screen up?
Monitor make and model?
system specs?

Monitor sleep works okay on my system on a FS display.

Yep, every time.
System:

4770K @ 4.7GHz
Asus ROG MAXIMUS VI HERO
Corsair 16GB 1866MHz
Radeon HD 7970
SuperFlower 1000W
Samsung 850 EVO 500GB

Monitor: LG 27UD58-B

Have had the issue for a couple of months now. Even when I had the Nano. It could be related to this monitor somehow as I do not remember having it with my 4K Dell before.

Thanks for the idea Matt, oddly when I've booted my PC up this evening I didn't receive the error.

I've checked windows display settings and still set to 60Hz but will remember to check there if it comes up again. It does say I have a custom scaling factor set but I don't remember setting this myself.
