The AMD Driver Thread

Would this issue have the potential to cause a black monitor screen on boot? Since updating to 26.1.1 I don't always get to Windows 11 login page, before I had no issues. DDU before install of 26.1.1 too.

Edit: Turns out it's a known issue with a Windows security update. Amazing. Just coincided with my AMD driver update.
Microsoft just pushed out a second out-of-band patch for their broken January patches. KB5078127 should be available for download in Windows Update.

So are we saying 26.1.1 are good now? I've installed the windows hotfix so I should be good to go ahead.
Its fine on a 9070XT system and also on a 8060S system (Strix Halo) here.

Re the AI package :

Worth noting for those (like me) interested in such heresy, AMD has just about been able to deploy a ROCm stack of apps which work out of the box on RDNA 3.5 and above (ComfyUI being the exception) on Windows. I had to do an "over the top" install of ComfyUI on Strix Halo and then it pulled the relevant builds from git. Impressive performance even for text/image to video where CUDA is usually the only game in town for Windows. The memory on some models does utilise over 100GB unified memory (which works properly with ROCm) but ultimately CUDA will win for most apps for now.

Sorry to wang on about getting freesync to work but I was playing ghoat of Tsushima with freesync off v-sync on, so turn on v-sync and obv no tearing but is it now just locked to frame rate of the monitor? Also in ghost if I used fullscreen exclusive it stuttered like mad but but windowed fullscreen was fine...

This is what I do. Make sure freesync is enabled on the monitor. My LG it was disabled for some reason. Download monitor drivers and install. Reboot.
Go into the AMD drivers and go to display. It should say free sync enabled or the version of freesync it has found. I don’t use vsync at all. Use Radeon chill just under your freesync range. My max is 144 so I set mine to 142. Side note. You might have to go into advanced options on display settings and check the monitor is set to its maximum refresh rate.

Yeah vsync on will mean no tearing and locked GPU output to monitors max refresh rate. Stops runaway FPS. Can get stuttering when FPS drops. Adds input lag. Old school method.

Freesync is seperate to vsync and has a range. Doesn't have lag and syncs monitor refresh rate with GPU output. Slip under the VRR and you can get stutters. Go above the VRR rate and you get tearing. So then you use Enhanced sync...

Enhanced sync is a fallback for when you go above monitors VRR range. It is a modern vsync, and lets frames render as fast as possible but displays the most recent frame. Reduced lag Vs vsync on its own, and reduced tearing Vs having vsync off.

Some games don't like enhanced sync mind.

For me I use Freesync VRR enabled, vsync on (to then allow enhanced sync to take over and override it). I sit in the VRR range 99% of the time as gaming at 4k I rarely go higher than 144 FPS. And I try and keep above 48 FPS by adjusting graphic settings.

Another thing did W11 install 25.20.42 drivers for anyone? I was happily sitting on the december ones, then started playing arc today and it looked like ****. Turns out FSR4 wasn't working. I see what all the 7000 series owners are on about now, wanting FSR4 on their cards... maybe they'll bring it out at the same time as the PSSR 2.0 update?? Fingers crossed eh?

Sole reason I changed from a 7900 XTX to a 9070 XT last year. FSR 3 and earlier are absolutely rubbish.

Just had a driver crash whole PC just locked had to do a hard restart and just kept getting your GPU is not compatible with current drivers tried the clean install option with the latest driver and still got the same error. But luckily Running DDU in safe mode fixed it guessing it was a dodgy windows update?

Feel sorry for people that don't know about DDU and safe mode they would be having a complete meltdown right now.

Yeah windows update strikes again.

So is this windows driver update just a 7000 and 9000 issue? I've had a Vega64 then a 6700XT and now my 6900XT on both Windows 10 and 11. Never had Windows interfere with display drivers.

Ive never had a problem with windows update i just use this/

Anyone having issues with the latest 26.1.01 driver . Since installing (without the AI package ) I have had the following issues
1)_ my Monitor control software no longer would detect my monitor (KTC M27P6)
2) AMD control software itself would just throw up blank panels rather than show settings (making it completely pointless and useless)

reverting to 25.12.1b fixed all issues.

I wish AMD would just concentrate on reliable drivers rather than AI sh#t (there's no point in AI if you can't even use the PC reliably
Playing youtube vids within OperaGX seems to be randomly very choppy, almost like frame skipping or going into slow mo and the only change i've made is upgrading to the latest drivers.
