The AMD Driver Thread

If I was downgrading I definitely expect to have to use the clean up utility as i did when going back from 26.5.1 back to 26.3.1 ( due to the older driver install package not knowing what was going to change in the later driver) - but upgrading to a newer package , that shouldn't be happening as the later driver installer should be configured to be able to be installed without having to have to mess about as it should know what is being changed

Anyone tried 26.5.1 with No Man's Sky - The game just crashes outright on launch with 26.5.1 with even a fresh steam download and install. Switching back to 26.3.1 fixes it
My lads got NMS, installed it, running on 26.5.1-started a new offline game, and ran about to test.

I dont play this game so dont know much about whats what- apart from a wee bit of traversal stutter at first, game was working ok.

No joy with getting 26.5.1 to work properly. Tried clearing up in Safe Mode etc with AMD tools and DDU. Back on 26.3.1 no bother.
After running the clean up tools I wonder if manually just checking for any left over folders is worth a shot, and remove the device from Device Manager (tick the box to also say "include the driver" if prompted). Then reboot back into Windows and try the new driver again. Sounds like something localised is hanging around on your system causing the issue. Also never hurts to do an SFC /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth commands (elevated) in case you have underlying Windows integrity or corruption.

I've managed to upgrade now and all working. There seem to be two different versions of the driver package. There is whql-amd-software-adrenalin-edition-26.5.1-win11-b.exe (820MB) which is on the main support page, but when you click the link in the Release Notes, it downloads whql-amd-software-adrenalin-edition-26.5.1-win11-c.exe (1.5GB). I installed the C version and all working fine. Not sure why there are two versions posted, but if anyone is having issues, worth giving the C version a try.

Nice one!

Isn't the '-c' variant the one with the added AI bloat?
the C variant I believe is combined to seamlessly support both KMD2 and KMD3-based RDNA devices, like a CPU with RDNA2-based iGFX (Raphael, Granite Ridge) and RDNA 3 or 4-based discrete graphics like the RX 7900XTX.

the gfx compute tools should always be an optional add on. if any of you are seeing these installed without explicit opt-in, please let me know

But where isthe FSR4 support (7900xt) :(
You can download AMD's (oops/on purpose) working 7 series FSR4int8.dll and drag and overwrite any FSR4 title, I use it on my 7900XTX and ROG AllyZ1E.

It is extremely easy, download the dll you need here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Hp4v8wmaK3-yKU1is4p0foeeZiWHtjtq/view

Skip Optiscaler and use the manual dll install method.

I still think FSR4 will come to 79 series-eventually, who knows, might not, but AMD really need to get it out-sooner the better, it's a gamechanger on the ROG, considering AMD is market leader in handhelds-it's crazy it isn't enabled to strengthen FSR and AMDs branding.
Only with optiscaler. There is a gui now to make it easier to install.
Must have app imo, install>launch game>GO!
