Of topic just for a sec, how do I stop email notifications from this forum, my email is rammed with posts
I still want notifications on here, just not an email sent to my inbox everytime
Yes they can compete with Intel, an even bigger company
What makes you think it won't be the usual 1:1 $:£ price? My last tech purchase for a newly released product was the Oculus Quest at that followed this pricing scheme.
£380,LMAO. £360 is bad enough!!
The RX5700 and RX5700XT are overpriced just like almost all the Turing cards. The RX5700 is going to be at least £60 more than an RTX2060,or more like £80 more if we have 1:1 pricing, and the RX5070XT is literally the same price as the overpriced RTX2070,which pushed up the price of the 70 series cards to new highs. $449 will equate to £425 to £450 over here.
Both companies can clear off at that pricing IMHO. We need another competitor as this is becoming a cartel now.
In late 2018,you could get a GTX1080 for as low as £430 to £450,and V64 at launch for £450. This new "gen" is just an excuse in making overpriced card pricing even more mainstream. Best thing is not buy any of them at current pricing otherwise people are justifying what Nvidia did, just because AMD matched it and are "the good guys". Anyone buying a £400+ RX5700XT or RTX2070 has literally validated Nvidia making a product like a RTX2070 at that kind of price. Soon, people shouldn't moan if the RTX3070 and RX6700XT are £500+ cards next year.
What is the RX480 competitor going to be,if the RTX2060 competitor costs £60 to £80 more and is only 10% faster,a card which is GTX1660TI speed for more money?? This is destroying mainsteam gaming now.
That is what AMD said only in 2016,and these metrics were true of last year, looking at what market research companies also said.
So people might as well get a Vega56 now at this rate.
But seriously if this is another case of amd over promising and under delivering can they just shut down the gfx division it would be better for the consumer if Nvidia had an actual monopoly rather than a virtual one at least then legislation might kick in to rein them in.
Personally, I don't have a problem with the Super naming as using Ti would indicate chip level changes across the board and confuse the market. I like the re-brand. Nvidia have always liked it a bit 'Cheesey'.
Because of Navi, Nvidia had no choice to do this re-brand an a mini-PR launch stunt.
Nvidia sales were already tanking, look at the 1 year share price vs. AMD, Nvidia are ones in the hurt locker in the short term at least, shame it has taken 5 years (and more) to get here. Vega and Polaris, not really exciting chips to me but (as you can tell) Navi is going to change the world by bringing GTX1080 performance to a global audience and not just in our little geek fandom.
Prices current:
RX 570 4GB - £99
RX 570 8GB - £150
RX 580 8GB - £170
RX 590 8GB - £200
RX Vega 56 - £270
RX Vega 64 - £320 (reference); £390 (others)
VII - £600
Why don't they discontinue the Vega 56 and Vega 64 and put the 5700 and 5700 XT in its price points?
Interesting, and worrying for me as I just bought a Vega 64. Looking around it seems the 5700XT is 15% quicker than the Vega 64, but I paid 20% less than £380. Will wait and see, but I cannot see the Nitro+ (or whatever Sapphire call it for the next lot of cards) being less than £450. So I think (maybe) I made the right choice.
Everytime I see a comment like this I feel like it's extremely short-sighted and arrogant.
First off, your post assumes that AMD hasn't considered all of these arguments in advance, and still decided against it for various reasons.
Second, the Nvidia argument is ridiculous; the theory is that because Nvidia has more marketshare, that they have more to lose, but it's quite the opposite. Nvidia is in a position where people buy their GPUs on reputation alone, even when they are more expensive than better performing AMD cards in a particular price segment, and this was true even when they were using reference blowers. The vast majority of users know nothing about coolers or anything, they'll just buy whatever their friends tell them to buy, and that's usually Nvidia. The problem is that Nvidia can actually afford to dictate the market, because they're on top. If a Radeon card underperforms, people will blame AMD, because AMD is the underdog and doesn't have the same reputational advantages, whereas if a GeForce underperforms, many people won't even notice because there's a confirmation bias at play that makes them think it's better even when it's not. Nvidia is in a position where they can afford to play games, they have the leeway, whereas AMD cannot. This is basic human psychology.
Also, I can guarantee you, that the number of people with "poorly ventilated cases" are far more numerous than you think, your characterization of "some smuck somewhere" is really ignorant; you really think a multi-billion dollar company is deciding on the designs of their cards because of the needs of 1% of the market or something? I've got news for you, we on this subreddit, are the minority, the "shmucks" are the majority of consumers, not us. Another thing is that bargain hunters probably make up a bigger share of AMD's audience than Nvidia, and these types of users are likely to be people that may not have the best PC cooling.
Furthermore, Scott (OP) already said in their post that AMD would consider having axial fan options in addition to blower at launch, so what's the big deal here?
Lastly, it's just one more month until AIB cards so this entire whining about blowers is really pointless. Saying you don't like reference blowers is one thing, but acting like it's bad business is making quite a few claims about how corporate strategy works, and I'm honestly kind of annoyed at seeing a bunch of kids on reddit act like they understand product R&D and marketing better than people who get paid to do it. This launch is perfectly fine for AMD, and the launch of AIB cards next month will generate more news headlines for them which is good. And I guarantee you in 30ish days, no one will care or even remember all the **** people are stirring right now about blowers; hell, I'll be surprised if people even remember in a week, since they'll have moved on to the next thing to whine about.
I can’t quite work out if I love that or hate it?
No is not. All his content is anti AMD bickering behind Patreon paywall the last 2 months.
He has become the joke of the whole community, to the point when earlier in July posted a part 2 video when Part 1 was behind paywall, got so many negative comments and downvotes that he removed it completely.
Since then many left his channel and cancelled their Patreon to him.
Hence he is starting coming back to youtube because the revenue is down.
He has retracted all youtube videos that he received negative comments from almost everyone. Including those he was saying that everything is behind paywalls.
Pay a visit on the CPU discussion, as we were talking about all these as they came out back in July.
Read the discussion from that point onwards.
