*** The AMD RDNA 4 Rumour Mill ***

So all of the rumours are wrong then..

Guest Question: Iain Bristow, AMD PR

Can I be cheeky? Can I have the last question as well? We haven't talked about performance today. There are a lot of rumors out there, projecting our performance and making performance claims. Is there anything you want to add on to that?

Frank Azor

All the data you have is pretty much inaccurate.

David McAfee

Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

Ian Cutress

Especially if I wrote it.

David James – PC Gamer

So all the data that's out there about RDNA4 is wrong?

Frank Azor

I would say pretty much all because I haven't seen all of the data out there, but the ones that have been generating most headlines can confidently tell you that that is not accurate.

David McAfee

The performance data that's out there on RDNA4 is completely inaccurate.

Frank Azor

The other thing I will tell you is that nobody has the final driver. So how can the data be accurate? That's why I can confidently say that the data is not accurate.

Seems positive that there was no confirmation that FSR4 will be exclusive to RDNA4. It will probably be best on RDNA4 though, and perhaps higher-tier 7000 series.

Bit disappointing overall, but not the end of the world. Interesting to hear that all the performance leaks are "inaccurate". Which is no help because they've been all over the place

Huh yet they themselves put up the graph showing where the 9070 sits amongst the competition. Makes sense. This reeks of damage control.

There was, the small print at the bottom of one slide literally says 9070 series only.

AMD can say whatever they want to, but their own slide released today shows the 9070XT as having a huge performance range - so even they don't seem to know what its performance is - is it as fast as a 7800XT or faster than a 7900XT? Not even AMD knows apparently if you take these answers at face value

"First, the keynote, being an official CES keynote, was limited to 45 minutes. Spending only 5 minutes at the end speaking about RDNA4 wouldn’t do the new architecture justice. AMD felt that the audience would be be left with more questions than answers, and in the past previous graphics architecture launches where met with a day of disclosures, rather than 5 minutes."

What? Do they think people care where an annoucement is made? How were they able to talk to and answer questions from Hardware Unboxed, More than Moore, PC Gamer, and TechPowerUp at such short notice? Could they not use the same technology to disseminate information to the world?

"Second, is the timing. While AMD is close to launch, they’re perhaps not as close as when a normal launch event would be. AMD stated that they will be planning a dedicated set of contacts around all the features of RDNA4 for press and analysts in an official launch soon, but that date isn’t today."

It's called mindshare, ffs. All anyone has been talking about for weeks is Battlemage, even if they have no desire to buy one. After NVIDIA's announcement, everyone will be talking about Blackwell. No-one will be talking about RDNA4, except to say that it's probably crap so buy something else.

That slide doesn't make sense as a performance comparison, it lists the 7900 xtx a fair bit below the 4080, and its generally a little bit above it. I wonder if it's price. Which in its self isn't great as it means the 9070xt is expected to be priced similarly to the 7900xt.

I don't believe anything they are saying at this point, they lost me as a potential customer. Complete joke.
How about we cut the drama a bit and just make a decision once the card is here based on its actual performance and price unless better options are available beforehand? AMD's PR has for the most part always been weird and hair loss inducing, that ain't new.

Considering the 5070 is 499 these AMD cards will be DOA. If even a penny above 400 sadly. I am an AMD fan boy it hurts to admit....

Yep the first thing this morning waking up to see the 5070 for that price was straight away that AMD are going to begrudgingly set the 9070 49 dollars below it and hope for the best.
