*** The AMD RDNA 4 Rumour Mill ***

Sounds logical. I wonder how this is going to impact gaming down the road as I imagine not every studio wants to be reliant on AI.
I'm sure Nvidia will continue to t̶h̶r̶o̶w̶ ̶m̶o̶n̶e̶y̶ ̶a̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶m̶ provide them with the necessary integration tools to make the most of their GPU's.

This has got to be one of the most frustrating and boring launches I’ve ever followed since 2019.

This is from both companies.

9070XT should be max £549 and 9070 £449 to be of interest to the majority who would otherwise go Nvidia.

Also games haven’t really progressed to ultra realistic graphics and look more or less the same as 5 years ago- some may just skip the upgrade and grab a discounted 7000 series or 40 series.

but it does match the cpu series buy a 9 SERIES cpu you buy a 9 series gpu only so many places you can put the numbers in that format

it makes sense associate you market leading cpu with the new gpu

the next step should be to gimp performance on Nvidia gpus if they run on amd

IMO it just makes it even more confusing to have totally unrelated products using the same top level number. It's already difficult enough with the rebranded and mixed architectures in the same CPU family (Ryzen Z2 family is a great example of this).

It would somewhat make sense if CPU and GPU releases were always in lock step, but this has rarely happened before...

Purposely gimping performance for NV cards would be an awful look for AMD, and give Intel an open goal to scoop up many angry NV users. They would be better off looking for ways to enhance synergy between their own products (e.g., something like SAM, but actual proprietary tech they develop).

Sounds logical. I wonder how this is going to impact gaming down the road as I imagine not every studio wants to be reliant on AI.

I suspect, increasingly, the "best" process nodes (i.e., the newest couple of TSMC nodes) will be swamped making products for Apple and NV. Gamers will get products based on older TSMC nodes, or from the weaker fabs (excess capacity at Intel and Samsung).

Very frustating yeah. I'm hoping for pricing as you've mentioned, but if the performance is there, I might pay slightly more. It seems like there is a lot of choice of cards so hopefully that means a good range of prices depending on who you go with.

Agreed, I'm still hopeful that the RTX 5070 Ti and RX 9070 XT might be worth a look when they eventually drop. Otherwise I'm just seeing this gen as saving me some money to put towards a proper upgrade next time around.

A thought just occurred to me, with the 5000 series seemingly PCIe 5.0, do we know if the 9000 series are still PCIe 4.0?
While I'm not sure how much difference it will make to the 5080 and below, the thought did occur to me that I can't be the only one with a motherboard that only has PCIe 4.0.

Don't know, but very unlikely to have any effect at all. Still loads of headroom with pcie 4

It's like 1% difference between pcie 4 and 5 that's with 5090

AMD is likely to price the 9070XT at $599 at the lowest which would be around £600 after VAT and other costs. I think that may be a reasonable price since the 5070Ti will be selling for £730+. AMD needs to at least match the 5070Ti performance though.

^ This is why they keep putting prices up, people accepting mid tier for more than half a grand.

I don't like the prices but considering the 5070 will by around £550 and people seem eager to upgrade to it, you can't expect AMD to price lower for a faster card with more VRAM.

Yeah those prices, if they actually have sufficient stock and decent performance, should be okay.

But regarding the discounted 7000 series or 40 series... that's highly unlikely. Last time, with the 40 series release, the 30 series new didn't actually go down in price.
And right now if we look at the pricing trends, the pricing of both AMD and Nvidia current gen cards have actually gone up a little from the nice deals we had a few months ago.
If the X3D CPUs are anything to go by, previous gen won't go back down and folks may have already missed their chance to get one on the cheap...
It's a shame and I wish it weren't so, but looks to be the reality. Otherwise I'd try and nab a 7900XT on the cheap, if the 9700 series are too expensive.

Shame as the 6950xt mba dropped to £399 in the summer of 2023 some 2 years after release…. I thought the XTX might do the same.

Nvidia apparently had over a billion USD of unsold RTX3000 series stock just after the Pandemic according to reports at the time. Considering we didn't see many price drops in retail, I can only conclude most of the stock was cleared through pre-built systems. I also noticed RTX4060 and RTX4070 pre-built systems have dropped in price over the last few months.

Ive had my 6800 since launch, I want a new card because I can justify one after having it 4yrs. But you're right games haven't really progressed to the point of where I actually NEED a new GPU.

And this whole launch has been so underwhelming I'm starting to think I can wait another year or two
