*** The AMD RDNA 4 Rumour Mill ***

What a weird click bait headline, its a choice they made and we already know about it, they are about 6 months late...

The only thing that matters is price, in the grand scheme of things no one cares about GPU's that cost more than £500.
for GPU gaming market I agree most people don't spend above $400-$500 on gpu, but for AI this is opportunity lost by AMD for some serious cash. They need a much larger chip to perform compute tasks like NVidia or they cant compete for large contracts. They have fallen far behind again.

AMD has the Instinct™ MI300X for AI, this thing is a beast.

They have a professional class cards that are not gaming cards and have different drivers.

4080 performance my arse!! I'd bet on it being just a little bit faster than a GRE in a 'real review', AMD slides are just a joke unto themselves at this point!

You are clearly not looking at it logically then. The 7800XT is already ~10% slower than a 7900 GRE. The only way AMD would fail to get between 7900 XT and RTX 4080, is if they do another rename of the tier below.

If we assume the usual ~ 30% (at worst) uplift then that puts it at just over 7900 XT performance and indeed close to RTX 4080. The 4080 is only ~12% faster than a 7900 XT in raster. If AMD do indeed improve RT then 4080 performance is very achievable.

In fact this “leak” is pretty pathetic as leaks go. Because anyone with an ounce of logic and ability to do basic research on previous GPU trends, would see a ~30% uplift gen by gen is pretty much par for the course. Well unless AMD and or Nvidia do the tier shifting price gouging nonsense again.

The short version… logically it would be more surprising if the 8800 XT was NOT giving about 4080 type performance.

If AMD managed to put out 4080 performance for £500 that would be decent but this is AMD we are talking about.

What they’ll probably do is release first for a change so they are going up against current gen Nvidia and give you 4080 performance for £700, then Nvidia will say thank you very much for setting a higher price for us and drop in a 5070 with 4080 performance for £700 then AMD will cut the price to £650.

Nah, AMD are generally not overly generous when it comes to generational improvements, 20% max imo. Lucky if it matches a 4070Ti!

I could be wrong but I don't think this is an AMD slide:D
It isn't, I was talking about the official AMD slides that they release before launch. Last 2 lots (7900XTX/XT and Zen5) have been bordering on lies (not to mention the 5800/5900XT debacle).

Marketing Dept need shooting.....from a cannon!!! :p

You quoted the YouTube slide though using " ... ...at this point" would indicate you've made some link here to actual information presented by AMD but it's just a random Jim from the internet.

Anyway I think there's a great dedicated thread to discuss AMDs excellent marketing and PR slides.

20% over existing 7800 XT would bring it to just below 7900XT, or higher than a 4070Ti in raster.

Your claims have a delta of about 13% (they vary from about GRE to about 7900 XT) from the worst to best case scenario. Seems to be hedging your bets a bit. That may not sound like a big delta but for GPU space it’s considerable.

I would estimate 25% to 30% (max) faster than 7800 XT given past trends on GPU generational uplift (apart from rebranding and price gouging). This would put the 8800XT between 7900 XT and RTX 4080 in raster (RT is anyone’s guess but 4070Ti is doable).

So this new “rumour” has given nothing of note on the actual very early rumours that AMD were aiming for between 7900 XT and 7900 XTX raster, but with much improved RT. What remains to be seen is the prices as it would be a joke if they repeat the 7900 XT/X release mess.

if they release this anything higher than £600 they are going to score another own goal similar to Zen 5. This really needs to be £499-£550 price range to sell loads of cards during holiday season as its unlikely Nvidia has the 5070 ready for release this year. £500 for 4800 performance is good, many will upgrade their 3xxx and 6xxx mid tier series cards.
