*** The AMD RDNA 4 Rumour Mill ***

To be fair I am seeing a lot of anti Nvidia sentiment around their pricing practices. Even from posters and tech journalists who previously were quick to jump to NVIDIA’s defence. Especially with the 5000 series and to a lesser extent the 4000.

To me Nvidia have always been by far the worst culprit of these practices and they do get a lot more leeway. AMD are of course prone to doing the same thing but they do get called out more in general and do tend to get unfair press on drivers etc. The 7900 XT pricing was an utter joke.

I haven't noticed all that many people thanking amd for the 4080 super, which was just nvidia dropping the price of the 4080 without saying that's what they were doing.

You're surprised people want competition to bring prices down?
Is it common in other walks of life for people to want monopolies to exist so that prices will rise?

Not what they said at all. While it is an overgeneralisation, there are a significant number of people who never consider AMD, even when they are competitive. When AMD arguably had a better cheaper product their market share still shrank. The excuses tends to change but the premise is the same.

AMD have bad drivers
AMD don’t have PhysX
AMD don’t have 3D
AMD don’t have RT
AMD don't have Gsynch
AMD don’t have DLSS

No, I’m not defending AMD, they can be just as bad as Nvidia and some on that list at least have some merit.

Completely correct. Then people wonder why AIB/retailer/scalpers sell cards for 30% above msrp. There was me thinking picking up a 5080 should be straight forward, all 40 series guys dipped out and mocking it, reviewers probably worst feedback ever.. then launch day sold out with partner cards selling for £1400+. Then go and post in the AMD forums to vent their anger :cry:
 
Yup.

5080s/5090s going for £1700/£3000, big issues with the latest driver, awful supply, awful generational improvement, shady product segmentation...

But a card potentially 15% slower than the 5080 can't cost more than $499 or there'll be hell to pay.

The choice to go Nvidia this time for me was driven by availability. I wanted to get my PC built now, rather than wait for some nebulous date in March. But my perception is definitely that DLSS is a better technology than FSR, and that Nvidia's software has greater games support than AMDs.
 
One popped up on my alerts this morning 2857.99 its insane. No it wasn't a 5090.

The problem with the DLSS being better mantra, is that for the same price you tend to get about 20% extra performance. So the need to use DLSS in the first place is diminished. Also at 4K a good FSR implementation is indistinguishable from DLSS without pixel peeping. The fact FSR4 is improved on RDNA4 is a bonus and worth waiting to see how it compares.

No disrespect, but the notion that Nvidia gives better games support is going to need clarification. There is not a single game you can’t play on an AMD GPU.

absolutley right, also don't forget:

SLI vs Crossfire - the frame-pacing fiasco
FXAA/SMAA/MSAA - the anti-aliasing, texture filtering 'image quality' fiasco.

All generated big, tedious post wars on here with multiple bans and post deletions. Looking back on it paid Nvidia shills were (and probably still are) part of this forum.

Lets not get started on Nvidia Gameworks as I don't want to scare the kids.

Its stemmed from the old wives tales of poor drivers where AMD has had a "app" ahead of nvidia for best part of four years now. As you allude to, if your stretching to use DLSS in the first place there seems to be an issue with either the game or the "grunt" is not there to begin with. This is why people are now snapping up discounted 7900XTX' because the penny has dropped that its "grunt" is decent and they are in stock.
