you should see his living room

Mine isn't that bad but in the living room I have a 9.3.4 and a 2.1 system

So that's what the older fellas' living rooms look like who attend all the audio/radio-phile boot sales my father-in-law drags me too. If I have to help build one more ferrograph from parts found in the bottom of a box...

Can only hope to one day have a similar wall of PC components so I can regale unsuspecting younger gens with stories about i.e. bore to tears.

Not sure it is. AMD have done this in several of their past launches. Anytime they have done a rebate thing it was only for limited numbers, once they were sold out, cards reverted to their real MSRP.

Find out later I guess.

Vega was the last time that happened IIRC.
Yeah me too. My HIS IceQ 7950s were great. Not sure if I'd want blower cards these days but a pity they're not still in the game.

They had those translucent blue coolers.

It's poor marketing to only remove the review embargo at exactly the same time as the 5070 sale time. Why would they not release reviews earlier to stop potential costumers buying a 5070?
They want to give a day for the price/performance/"nV is toast" message to proliferate around other channels.

I had the same card, and also had to RMA it after a few weeks! The thing was running so hot it was throttling. Wonder if they had a bad batch of cards where they forgot the thermal paste

Replaced it with a Sapphire Nitro and never looked back...
They did have a bad batch - all of them. The thermal pads they used weren’t thick enough in the strix.

I replaced mine with a vega56 pulse, which outperformed the 64 with a bit of tweaking.

Nvidia delayed release of the 5070 to “disrupt” AMDs 9070 and XT release. AMD were actually hoping that all the 5000 series were out and reviews and people knew how bad they were.

I have a feeling Nvidia for once planned poorly. A lot of the reviewers were hinting at how much better the 9070 let alone the XT will be. Some even had 9070 GPUs on their desks while they were lamenting how bad the 5070 was. Nvidia will be very ****** at that but I think a lot of reviewers are finally at the FAFO stage with Nvidia.

Even DF said the 5070 was poor and called out the marketing lies.

Incredible that Asus never fixed this. Although I'm a big fan of their mobos (sorry
:p) I'm going to avoid their GPUs until some major change happens with them.

Unfortunately the Prime 9070XT is one of the few models that will fit my case, and apart from the stupidly large font size it does have quite a nice design...

yea, it was around that time i decided to bin off asus as a brand - this was their top end vega64 and that they couldn't be arsed fixing the issue with the thermal pads told me all i needed to know about them as a company. that said, the strix i bought is still serving me well - plan was always to watercool it so i wasn't overly concerned about the crappy thermal pads.
i will forgive you for still using their mobos but your name now has a yellow card against it.....don't make me have to upgrade it to a red card :p

I had a Vega56 Pulse. Never used it, seemingly didn't get on with my motherboard. Had a FuryX that didn't get along with that motherboard too. Oddly I had another FuryX that seemed to work better in the board and Nvidia cards seemed fine.
All the faff I went through with that put me off Sapphire Pulses. Although I did buy a 7900XT Pulse. Not a fan of that one either. Might mix it up and get a Pure this time!
