*** The AMD RDNA 4 Rumour Mill ***

I was getting major slow downs and some stutter in Elden Ring (my son and I play seamless co-op mod). I had to go back to 560.94 which are from August.

If you head over to the nvidia driver thread you can see 40 series owners having black screens and problems particularly since they went to the 'app'. If anything the driver lols meme should be handed to team green for the foreseeable until they can stop breaking things each release..

After saying i wouldn't upgrade my 7900XT i sold it earlier in the week for a good price with the intention of getting a 9070XT Taichi today but saw overclockers has the Gainward 5080 instock yesterday so bought that on impulse (not cheap!). Really considering sending it back and saving a good chunk of money and getting the 9070XT as intended.
FOMO. The 5080 could even be a rop missing version, putting the 9070Xt right next to it on performance and a lot cheaper. Dont even open the box if you want to return it

I've been swithering a bit on whether to upgrade my Sapphire Pulse 7900XT to the 9070 XT version of the same but the improvements to RT and the addition of FSR4 was enough to sway my purchasing decision.

After sleeping on it, the non-XT 9070 an awesome card I would recommend to anybody, no if and buts... except one. If it was at 450 not 550.
There is definitely a price cut coming for it (after 7800XT stock runs out maybe?)
Right now its existence somehow makes the 5070 look ok.

Yeah, RT has started to become mainstream and at these prices it’s almost there. Another gen and we will be there IMHO. A lot more games are requiring decent RT performance and that was always going to be the case.

The FSR4 update is really good and by all indications better than DLSS 3. But AMD need to really push for FSR 3.1 integration in more games.

Its a shame really as with AMD needing to take marketshare they needed both cards to hit the ground running.

You can get FSR4 working in ANY game that has DLSS. Just use the Optiscaler mod.
I have a 3080FE and will be going for one of the msrp cards sinc eI reckon a 30%+ gain is worth it at 1440P. If I can't get one for MSRP then will wait for prices to settle back down in a few months.
Oh wow really? This is promising.

Only msrp makes sense tbh, otherwise I'm happy to wait it out another gen.

Which msrp model is best? Much of a muchness I suppose.

Just what I'm thinking. Luckily skint atm so I'll wait it out. The 9070 at £450 and 220W would be great for me.

I think AMD always wanted to do the 9070 for $550 and the 9070 XT for $650 but had to adjust. But I agree because after looking at how much AMD have pushed the 9070 XT board power compared to the 9070. The 9070 is roughly on par with the 5070 once you account for the power needed for the extra VRAM.

The 9070 is a GPU that roughly matches a 7900XT for raster and destroys it in RT and power efficiency. Just $50 cheaper would have made it a great option.

That's interesting, do you have any more info on this? like a video or something?

Ultimately for AMD it's a balance between "what makes the most profit from finite number of wafers available to us in a given time period" and which markets they want to remain active in.

That RDNA4 is likely to be the basis of the next gen console APUs means that there is a consumer dGPU spinoff - which retains a bit of that market share.

Where did you sell it? I put mine on the usual selling site, and it sold it 3 times to people who had made accounts that same day so I cancelled them

lol, stop trying to convince yourself you are some paragon of truth. KCD2 is about 10% lower than it should be on AMD, hardly terrible. Oh no my 7900 XT gets 92 instead of 100 FPS at 1440p. This game is unplayable ;)

AMD driver support has been perfectly fine and overall more stable than Nvidia this past year. Being a bit slow on the latest game is worth that stability. In fact I stopped upgrading my 4080 drivers months ago for this very reason. The latest ones introduced some stutter in some games and I had to “upgrade” to the pre Christmas drivers.

10%? What happens when your "value GPU" loses its edge in the only scenario it had any plausible advantage, is it still "value"? It's wild to see people excuse getting worse performance for no reason.

Which models are you looking at? I'm also on a 3080FE....but at the moment im leaning towards keeping it a bit longer

Not all people are looking for, or can afford, the peak performing choice. Consideration of cost per unit of performance comes in to play for many.
