My 290X was an excellent card alright, but I have to say, the much-maligned Fury is still doing the business at 1440p in all the games I’ve played (except DXMD but performance was broken in that game for Nvidia too – 100% greedy and inept Square Enix’s fault, not AMD or Nvidia). The 8gb RX480 in my VR rig is good too, and for the price it’s pretty sweet.

The fail was the ‘overclockers dream’ marketing nonsense etc. but since my first qualification (before I left the Dark Side) was in marketing I know not to listen to it and I don’t watch ads anymore (they're bad for you). As HG Wells said: ‘Marketing is legalised lying’. Hardware > Marketing for me.

Well said :)

So far this is shaping up to be a typical AMD launch. We have:

  • People upset that AMD is not releasing a wham-bham-drop-the-mike benchmark that clearly shows it is 30% faster than the 1080ti
    • Said people will jump and point out to anyone speculating it is indeed that fast, that it's too little too late - Volta is just around the corner.
  • People criticising that lack of concrete info, explaining how all this secrecy is just losing them sales
    • Said people also complain that AMD should be more like Nvidia and give zero info, then just release the card and be done.
  • People announcing they're getting a 1080ti, expecting us to react as if they just announced they're about to jump off a bridge, and beg them not to.
    • It is said that more than half the people that walked up to the edge of a bridge don't actually follow through and jump. It is also said that almost all other people don't really care whether they jump or not.
  • People lamenting how much AMD's marketing sucks because they hype up their products and then under-deliver
    • Each of them has hyped up Vega in at least one post

...yeah, this is just one more run-of-the-mill AMD launch.
Erm... lol!

Yup vega will come nowhere close to a 1080ti, let alone a 1080....

Haven't you heard, AMD have decided that instead of releasing gpus that are faster than their previous gen gpus, they are now going to be approaching the GPU sector in a whole new way that blow people away..... They will now be releasing gpus that are not only slower than a 2 year old gpu of theirs but also slower than a 4+ year old GPU. That's how you do business chaps!

:D

:o
Lol :p

I personally have no problem with it, but may I suggest we keep the thread on topic before another user comes in calls someone else and idiot and gets the thread locked again? :p:D

hi guys, sorry ive not read the thread or watched computex, but after a very very very very very very very long wait finally AMD gave us Vega!
but i cant seem to find them to buy on the OcUK website, help please?
plz ban!

:p

The TLDR is, that Nintendo offers a different experience to what you can get on PC/PS4/XB1. I've seen a lot of people pair their Gaming PC with something like a WiiU (or more recently the Switch).
Yep. Great combo with PC. That is what I do. Then with PS4 and Xbone I can just borrow family or friends console to play any exclusives if I feel the need. Perfect balance for me.

Although WiiU can be perfectly emulated on a PC.
I'm currently playing Zelda Breath of The Wild at 4K with zero fps drops unlike on WiiU itself.
I tried that before selling my 1080 a few weeks ago, it was anything but smooth. Nothing like playing it on the actual Switch itself. Even Mario Kart was far from perfect.

Since then Cemu emulator progressed a lot as new version is released every week.
It works 100% smooth on my [email protected] but on my htpc that has 4790(non K) running at 4Ghz when using Cemu it is unplayable.
I doubt there is much if any difference between a my 4770K @4.7GHz and a 6700K @4.6GHz, but maybe you tried it on a one newer version then me.

I completed it on the Nintendo Switch anyway, great game. Will wait a year or so and play again 4K, by then it will only get better I suppose :D

I took the hint that you and the vocal consensus seem to want and expect a different level of discussion from this forum than myself and that rules here seem to be pretty lax around that. But how about you stick to what you said and let it go and do me the favour of leaving me out of it. Thanks.
Heh. Fair enough.

So the enthusiast market is now the professional market or am I missing something?
Cheeky you :p;)

You know the score, they are behind by a few months. I am sure they originally wanted it out by now, but sometimes things do not go to plan.

End of the day what I would say to people is, at least we now have a launch date. You can either choose to wait or not. But at least you know in August benchmarks will be out :D

Let me post some genuine news.

Genuine pic of Vega spotted.

Unfortunately consumers won't be able to get their hands on it anytime soon.

I definitely won't be getting 4 of these as they will be far too hot to cool.
Fake news, wasted my time, ban please! :p;):D
