If "single" vega matches the power of 2x 1080's then I will lmao :p Although if it were to then AMD have every reason to charge more than a 1080ti for it...

It might been asked before but I thoughts I ask, since not really looking forward to swim through all these pages and see if it has. :o

How much of a difference will VEGA be compared to the Fury-X ?? If anyone knows roughly that is ?? Just wondering if it worth upgrading or wait to the next one.

Thanks. :)

No one knows that at all, we only know some basic specs like TFLOPs. Everything else is just speculation for now.

Fury X = 8.6 TFLOPS
Vega Frontier Edition = 12.5 T FLOPS

Depends on who you ask:

- some think it will barely beat a 1060/290 :o
- some think it will eclipse a 1080ti
- some think it will match/beat a 1080

What I will leave you with though is that a 2+ year old fury x matches a 1070 and even beats it in a fair amount of games.....

That is an irrelevant comparison, the FuryX can only be compared to a fully enabled GP104, i.e the 1080. Then consider die size difference, power draw and memory bandiwdth.

The FuryX was launched at $650, you want to be comparing that to the 1080ti to understand the ground that AMD has to make up.

"You are going to be able to overclock the thing like no tomorrow... ...this is an overclocker's dream". its kind of unambiguous as a statement hardly a slip up you don't just accidentally make a statement like that.
So that was not in reference to its cooling ability? Im not saying it was great that was said on stage and they should probably have corrected that guy but how bad would it look comming out after so they just left it.
I dont think amd wanted that statement being pushed tbh.
Either way i cba to argue with yall because point is being missed completley. Both do it hence 970 situation. D.P just instantly discrediting AMD becsuse of what one guy said on stage means we cant beleive anything either amd or nvidia say. Tbh i though it was childish which was my original point but as usually people like to nitty pick and swing it in a different direction.

If amd say they have made the most improvments since gcn was first intorduced im inclinded to beleive them. This isnt one of those what one guys said on a stage situation. But what ever

Thank you both ! I guess I just have to wait and find out once more information is out then. :)

Don't disagree that its a bad idea to judge on one instance of something like that but as with past issues just because two or more entities have instances of doing something doesn't necessarily put them on the same level.

Personally out of these two I think there is more bad faith out of the nVidia example but its a prime example of why I've never had much time for AMD over the years - too much running their mouth on things they don't deliver on.

With stock of Vega likely to be limited on release anyway, will top end Vega cards be attractive to miners? Or will the price/performance for their niche not make it worthwhile? I'd like to read gaming reviews first, then buy rather than pre-order.

I doubt miners would be attracted to them, they're too high powered.

I believe miners go for 480s because they provide good performance per watt?

Not 100% sure, but yeah, I wouldn't worry about miners going for Vega yet.

Probably not, they're going to be expensive and that means a long time mining to recoup the cost. Plus GPU mining software is very highly optimised for the hardware it runs on, so Vega is likely to be quite inefficient for mining until the various developers get hold of one and update their code.

Depends on the performance, power and price really.

The main attraction of the RX480 is that it gives R290X performance for half the power consumption, and performs almost as well as a Fury or 980ti while costing much less.
