It cant be using 375w and be picked up by miners and run 24/7. It cant all be negative :D
I guess if someone had free power but even then the price is not going to be worth it on simple hashing. I've read ETH by November will cause problems to the 480, if that dilemma were a bit closer I could believe it maybe

Frontier isnt Titan if they make a point of saying it performs worse, my impression was it will always be worse in use. Isnt it more like Quadro? Only the greater ram could be superior in games maybe, saying that its titan level some gamers will actually buy it and make a mistake.

The max power spec also seems be a deliberate mistake, more of a waiver to any system builders

It's definitely not a Titan equivalent, The titan was about bring Nvidia's biggest & faster chip into the gaming market, AMD are using the same chip for the Frontier as they are for RX Vega.
 
If it's /only/ at that level, then AMD will have failed dramatically - may as well have named Vega as Bulldozer 2.0.
i don't think so, AMD doesn't need to compete on all segments or go for the performance crown at the moment, what they need is to offer options for 300-500$ segments that is still a significant volume shippement, and stay there untill Navi is ready, then it would be much less problematic for AMD to reach for performance crown.
 
All this speculation is going to be for naught unless you pre-order one as all of them are going to be picked up by miners anyway. :o

I'm actually pleased by this because once the mining bubble bursts we will get tons of discounted Vega GPU's ripe for the picking, I've got the 1070 to tide me over for the next year or two!

Not having a competing product at the top end for 2 years isn't a good place to be. While I agree, the top end of the spectrum isn't the only end -- they've already established themselves at the low and mid range but have had nothing high end since the Fury 2 years ago. It doesn't paint a good picture to potential buyers or to enthusiasts who've had no card to buy.

Even more frustrating for people stuck on FreeSync monitors wanting an upgrade. This is another thing that worries me about going Vega when it launches. How long will it take for AMD to get Navi out the door?

well to me waiting seem to be the smarter choice, yes they will get crap for being behind in performance, but doing nothing and failing is still miles better than making products and then failing, their best shot is the scalability of navi if it's the same as ryzen, it will allow them a much higher generational jump in performance with unprecedented pricing, this could very well be what turns things around for AMD, especialy if Nvdia sticks to die size, the perf/$ will be one sided, because so far Nvidia didn't show anything similar to the infinity fabric, or maybe they are keeping it under wraps.
i say AMD should just take the crap thrown at it for the next year or year and a half then come out strong with Navi, a 10-15% card over 1080 should be enough to keep AMD's market share for crumnling down in the mean time.
 
Performance of Vega has been demonstrated by AMD at CES and Computex. Prices have also been announced for the FE model. Power and TDP there's nothing official although the marketing director from MSI has said it requires 'a lot of power' and the card has 2x 8 pin power inputs which points to a high power draws.

In the Reddit AMA, Raja did mention that Vega FE doesn't need 2x8 Pin connectors. He did say that it runs perfectly fine with 1x6 1x8 as with the engineering board he showed at CES, but they put 2x8 pin on it to allow people to push them if they wanted to.

The length of the card is a bit confusing to say the least, one of the points of hbm was to reduce board size with all the memory being basically tight to the gpu. So why is this card the same length as a titan x? Have to wonder whats going on underneath the heatsink for it to be back to regular card sizes even with hbm. Suppose its possible its just that length to accommodate a regular heatsink without a lot of it hanging off the end like some iterations of the fury card.

Be interesting to see teardowns of the card to see whats going on there.

Nice to see they kept the gpu tachometer on it, hopefully it works better than the one on furyx.

Well the Fury was much larger than the Fury X simply because it was air cooled, and needed more heatsink area.
The same is probably happening here; although that doesn't explain the size of the Watercooled Vega card though.

Nothing for games but it shows in Cinebench OpenGL the vega card is 20% faster than Titan Xp.

Although that test is all over the place with OpenGL performance, and not reliable at all.
