People dont understand how gaming on pc works.
Buys a gpu that is held back by the cpu, big time.
then complains about no difference or not enough.
You want to have a 5600x series cpu from amd to not be cpu limited. (Intel is)
My sisters kid reason the same and I just tells him how it works.
The cpu even bottlenecks on 1440p now.
its why I planned the upgrade to ryzen 5600x.

Not all Intel is... Anything newer than 8700k will not be CPU limited with 3070/3080/3090
The i5 8600 @Invertigo mentions will only be CPU limited at 1080p and even then, not in all games

Upgrading his ram will make zero difference to FPS and if he's struggling to afford the upgrade as it is then changing the ram is an unnecessary expense.
Upgrading the CPU is needed. Either sell the 3070 and upgrade the CPU instead or put up with lower performance while saving for a CPU upgrade
Not to put too fine a point on it but you're full of it. For AMD faster memory = faster infinity fabric = more fps. The link is direct and undeniable and applies to 3000 and 5000 series.

In that case then you're saying the more recently released and higher end Intel cpus don't give more fps at anything except 1080p? And I suppose you believe the AMD 5000 series will give exactly the same fps as an 8700k too? You really shouldn't be giving hardware advice on a public forum where the uninformed may actually read what you type and think its true. Stick to facts, don't troll those who don't know any better please its not funny or clever.

This is an Nvidia 3070 owners thread and you don't own one so why are you even here?

So what's everyone's thoughts, is an i5 8600 non-k going to hold back the 3070? I'm honestly very close to picking up a 5600x next week anyway, but just a curiousity really.
Yes, but I definitely wouldn't expect a night and day difference as the 8600 should be doing decent frames in any game that isn't core count limited. In your position I probably wouldn't upgrade until well after launch when availability goes up and prices go down (I'm not trying to put you off, just don't think you can justify it with a low frames @ 1080p argument). The rumoured 5600 (non-x) is allegedly due in retail Q1 2021 at the $200 price point and is likely to be the value champ for some time to come. I just wouldn't expect you to find any games that are cpu limited at 1080p on an 8600 to the extent its noticeable unless you're on a 240hz or higher screen. Benchmarkable yes, visually noticeable no.

Im currently pairing 1600AF at 3800 with one, CPU definately not holding me back at 4K. CPU usage in games ive tried so far, Battlefield V, Control have been very good. Im happy with locked 60fps mind so if your looking for higher frames perhaps at lower resolutions you may want better CPU.

I will do some vids and link over the weekend. DLSS in Control has sold me on the tech.

A small single digit gain in FPS does not constitute being CPU limited when somebody is asking about upgrading or not... With your logic all CPU's are limiting GPU's because any CPU upgrade will give a boost to FPS even if it is only tiny.

Surely you understand when somebody is asking about being CPU limited, they are asking if it would negatively affect FPS to the extent that they're better off spending a few hundred pounds upgrading their CPU as well otherwise the GPU purchase is not worth it? At least, I would assume you would understand that? Maybe not I guess... Been using the internet long?

Evening All, any one that bagged a COD code in the new promo fancy swapping for Watch Dogs Legion Code? 30XX series card required (I think).

Message me if interested,

Thanks.

Received my 3070 yesterday and put a small of oc it.
Coming from a 1070 its a big step up and can now run games in 1440p at high framerates whereas the 1070 was clearly struggling.

Worth it for me. Not sure I needed a 3080 at this time.

So, how many people on this thread? Not many it seems. Reckon I'll struggle to get one this year. Not sure I can be bothered sitting on the website hitting f5, got more important things to be getting on with.

I gave up trying to get a 3090 for that exact reason, I was curious if I could get a 3070 and managed so just rolling with it until 3090 stock, probably next year.

You need to reread your post that I quoted. You said ANYTHING newer than an 8700k will not be cpu limited. Emphasis is mine but the post was yours. An i3 9100 is newer than an 8700k, an AMD 3100 is newer than a 8700k, god the list is endless. Your advice was bad, you need to be specific when people who do not have the technical knowledge of pc parts are asking questions. You specifically said anything newer. I suspect you meant anything faster, but still that is not what you said. When giving advice its what you SAY that is important not what you mean. In the same vein you said "will not be bottlenecked", whereas I suspect you meant will not be significantly bottlenecked. See my post directly after the one I addressed you in for an example of how to correctly word advice. I am being harsh with you as having made over 6000 posts you should know better. Never post lazy advice, better not to post at all if you can't be bothered giving accurate advice.

I'm not even going to answer your "parting shot". Its too childish to bother.

Porn removed....

Very nice!!!! 3070 looks tiny on that board lol :D

Watch that lower sata cable though its trying to escape...there's something about Asus boards and their sata ports as my R5E is constantly trying to spit its lower sata cable out. I've lost count of the amount of times its triggered a raid rebuild despite still being locked in place with the metal clip
