The Ampere RTX 3080 Owners Thread

Got a bit of an odd card. Stock timespy graphics score is around 17-17.1k and the card just wont boost up to its potential, hovers between 1750 and 1850 but mostly under 1800. Its not thermal throttling as with the fan on full does not improve the score.

Undervolting it to 868mv @ 1920 clocks though and the card's timespy graphics score improves to 17.7k, add +1000 mem overclock and it sits at 18k timespy score. Im sure I can push it further but prefer it at this heat/noise level of 75c/1500 fan speed.

I've tested the undervolt in RT titles and it holds boost as well at 1905-1920 range so the card is clearly capable but for some reason at stock it just refuses to boost.

A bit, sure. Running stock with 115% power limit results in 17433 timespy graphics score. Still below what others are getting at stock without increasing power limit. Its an odd card or my mobo+cpu is affecting scores.

Edit: my PWR_SRC voltage is around 12.7v during load and sometimes reaches 13v. Anybody know what PWR-SRC is and which component in the PC affects it? Cant be PSU as I replaced mine to be on the safe side recently as it was 9 years old (went from 850W to 850W so was purelyfpr safety because it was out of warranty, which was 7 years).

HwInfo added GPU Memory Junction Temps, My 3080FE has a waterblock and I added +500 in Afterburner.

Nice temp. I've got max 94c and around 85 average whilst playing warzone for junction temperature on air with FE 3080.

I knew it was going to be high, that's why I wanted to get a block installed asap.

85C is still considered safe though so nothing to worry about.

Yeah it's mad lol no don't think the gigabytes have decent or any pads on them mem chips. Seen a couple of posts about thermal throttling on them. Even the master after a few weeks.

I was gaming with a friend for a few hours and after the sesh I noticed GPUZ said it had been thermal throttling, didn't notice in game but it's a joke lol, as there's a Rev. 2.0 for the master I wonder if that will have better thermal pads on the revised version?

I see you got a 3090 by the looks of your sig :D

3080 wise, the Quake II RTX timedemo 1, demo demo1 run its 50% faster than 2080Ti. 61fps when left at stock settings. Overclock / undervolt I can push a few more out, to about 66fps.
I would be interested to know what the 20GB on the 3090 adds to the table... hopefully not another 50% as i've only just got my 3080!

I did haha, got it on day 1 launch. I could see i was never gonna get a 3080 not for a very long time. Glad i didn’t wait, 3090 so far has been a champ although i have a feeling im not fully utilising it only running 1440p ultrawide. Does drive the fps right up though . Only time ive seen it use more than a 3080 is on flight sim 2020. Every other game has been under or very close so far. That extra ram certainly does not bring another 50% of performance to the table lol.
I’d say it was roughly 15-20% at most, rates are higher at 4k from what ive seen.
